  1. I'm not posting this to get in an argument with anyone, so anyone looking to start one with me can save their breath. I would presume the chicken farmer gave you permission to control the foxes in his area, right? Now as you've said he's also given the rifle men permission, to do the same job. It's evident to me that the chicken farmer doesn't want foxes around his area, and likely for sound reasons. It's my view that the people using the farmers land should respect his wishes, or not go there. From what you say on how many foxes ye're not getting, and taking it from the farmers po
  2. The LIon batteries are 10amp. I use an 18amp sealed lead acid battery. People are saying the 10amp goes all night, yet my 18amp will certainly not go all night. They're certainly lighter, they're certainly more expensive, I struggle to believe the claims on how long the LIon batteries last. 10amp is 10amp AFAIK.
  3. That's pretty much what I got out of it. I don't envy ye the choice.
  4. No, not at all heavy and I know you weren't having a dig. As I said I read the piece twice and I was genuinely wondering had I missed something important in there. I agree with all you've said and also hope the ban can be repealed as it's ridiculous.
  5. Possibly I missed or misread something so I've reread the article. The guy is hoping to get elected isn't he? Yet he's saying to the many people who engage in fox control, what you do is cruel, no, sorry, that's "very, very cruel", but I can shoot rabbits, because that's... ?? How is shooting, snaring or trapping as methods of fox control very very cruel? How is shooting rabbits, as his father taught him, less cruel? It strikes me as a completely bizarre comment to make. Can you enlighten me further please if I'm taking things up wrong here? (genuinely).
  6. "Every farmer will tell you that and every farmer will also tell you that the methods now being used - in more cases gassing and shooting and trapping and snaring - are, as the Burns inquiry itself found, very very cruel." Every farmer? Must be a peculiarity that only applies to British farmers then. As I'm a farmer and don't find shooting, trapping or snaring cruel. Don't know enough about gassing to comment. So every (sheep) farmer would be happy to have the hunt trundle through, possibly cutting fences, to catch the oldest or sickest foxes while the healthiest foxes are busy killin
  7. I'm getting the big stirry stirring spoon out BUT? What BUT? Lamps have been done to death, resuscitated, killed again and brought back AGAIN. Lightforce always comes out on top for one simple reason. They throw the best beam of any lamp in their class. And that is the top of the wish list of the majority of buyers, to be able to see as clearly, or as far, as possible per €€€. The wiring and connections, shit as they are - and which should be rectified at factory - just doesn't put that many people off because of it's beam throwing ability. *Safety back on, spoon no
  8. This board... Look. If your crown has been knackered it's easy fixed. Lop off the end inch of the barrel with your angle grinder. Get yourself some grinding paste and a marble, work away with that during Coronation Street and hey presto, new crown! As for cruddy barrels, Sage is indeed correct. Forget all those expensive potions. Go down the local shop and pick up a bottle of Cillit Bang. Plug the end of your barrel, fill it with Cillit Bang and leave to stand over night, crud go bye-bye Awaits frantic and panicked posts of next week
  9. Lightforce Striker, and get a dimmer of some kind or other for it, either in built, or an in line one from Deben you wire in yourself.

  11. Hang on a minute. Foxes are lovely creatures, and I am in the habit of hugging each one I see... Only after I put a big hole in them first though
  12. I quite admire your new sig and wish to subscribe to your newsletter PS Email received and put into action
  13. Lots of curlews here, wonder why that is.
  14. Thanks for the link, I've checked out the site a few days back. Always amused by the two NARGC lads, one leaving the barrel of the rifle in the stick instead of the stock I've got a niggling concern, coming from the farming sector which is well used to protests, that people would attend the march then go home with a lot of back slapping and thinking that's enough. I guess what I'd be wondering is what if any directions were given to people who showed an interest in RISE! or who attended the march for follow up action. Lobbying and targeted and sustained campaigns of letter writing, and p
  15. What was the plan behind the march, or, was the march the plan? Sorry, I should rephrase that. What were the specific goals behind the march.
  16. You don't need to be Irish, you're entirely correct.
  17. Hi folks, I don't mean mixy. I'm trying to think of the name of a different disease/condition in bunnies. I believe it makes them bleed a lot and stay put under ground? I think it was introduced on purpose like mixy so as to control numbers. Had a chat with someone tonight who I'd like to get the name for, can't for the life of me remember! ATB, John
  18. Pick up a book, learn about what's around you.
  19. I had never heard of this song before tonight, when, of all people, I was told by an ecologist! No doubt it came to her from her father in law who recited poetry to our class the last week. He's a real class act and had the room enrapture. Anyway, I thought it may be of interest to some on here. Edit to replace lyrics. ---------------------------------------------- THE BOGS OF SHANAHEEVER My young life has passed, which makes me feel dreary For in exile I'm cast on the wilds of the prairie. There to watch the Red Man, hunt the panther and the beaver But my thoughts w
  20. Only ever handled one in a gun shop. The stock was as flexible as cooked spaghetti. It's most likely a good rifle with a different stock.
  21. The Ward Hunt is about as media savvy as Kim Jong Il.
  22. http://www.met.ie/forecasts/regional.asp?Prov=Connacht Their rainfall radar can sometimes be of use if you get your times and wind direction right. It's not infallible though.
