  1. Thanks and welcome I'm not the best photographer mind you. Am sure someone who knew what they were doing would take some fantastic shots. I just couldn't do justice in those snaps to what we saw from there with our own eyes. Today was an easier day, highest thing I climbed was the stairs
  2. Leenane Walking Festival Hello all, I've just had a great weekend at the Leenane Walking Festival which ran over the May bank holiday just past. On the Saturday I took the long Ben Baun walk, highest point in Co. Galway, which started out in the Gleninagh valley. After getting to the top of Ben Baun we headed onto Luggatarriff, down to the saddle between Luggatarriff and Muckanaght and headed over to top Benbrack. From there we made our way to the saddle with Knockbrack then headed down towards the road near Kylemore Abbey. The weather, besides one good shower at the top of Gleninagh,
  3. Perhaps another approach would be to ask "Why were they shot?" Friend of my regular shooting buddy has sheep in a very rough, very open farm. He has had lamb losses well into the double figures. We went out Thursday night spent from 10.30pm to 2.30am there. Shot those five, saw fifteen in total. Now, if you shoot the vixen, and the cubs come out and stay beside her, do you let them fend for themselves, or give them a quick clean end. People assume too much about other peoples reasons for being out.
  4. It's a good while ago I had heard that, it had slipped my mind in the mean time.
  5. The cubs vixen is on the top of the photo. I reckon her dog is the bottom fox, and the other fox was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hung around a fair while watching that vixen wondering would more come out but none did.
  6. Well, there are a few different ways to go about catching your magpie. I've never caught one from scratch myself so anything I say is unproven basically. If you do a search on this forum I'm sure you'll find plenty of suggestions, I know the topic comes up each year so there'll be lots of threads on it. There was a lad lately who had a way, which was new to me, sounded good though. Can I hell remember his name!
  7. Not a notion. Maggies might be dumb enough to go into a trap with a magpie in it, but they ain't that dumb! On the flip side. You can and will trap a lot of greycrows with a greycrow. We got hundreds last year in a handful of enlarged DIY larsen traps.
  8. Sorry guys, didn't notice new comments until now :)

  9. I agree with Clint, shot foxes at night with my shotgun and I'd be distracted by a bright yoke on the end of the barrel.

  12. Came across this today, found it pretty interesting. The Raven and the Bird-Trap. Ravens are supposed to be the most cunning and sagacious of birds. They are knowing fellows, at all events. Some schoolboys in Ireland used frequently to set traps for catching birds. A tame raven belonging to their family frequently watched the proceedings of the young gentlemen, and it occurred to him that he had as much right to the birds as they had. When, therefore, they were out of the way, he would fly down to the trap and lift the lid; but as he could not hold it up and seize his prey at the s

  15. If it existed it would have been shot by now. It makes too much of a good pub/red top story to go away. who would shoot it as i only know one person that has big cats on his firearms and that aint in this country. the shit will hit the fan id imagine if one was shot?? Makes no odds either way, tough to shoot an imaginary beastie, even with the best of equipment
  16. They should be out of reach of kids in the first place though.
  17. Started the day with a headache, finishing it off the same way But the middle bit was great Neurofen are my friend. A nice surprise is they're sugar coated, or something sweet anyway. Makes a change from the plastic capsule that sticks to your tongue/throat, or the pure chemical shite that just tastes bloody horrible. It's not rocket science, why can't they all make that crap taste nice?
  18. Harris tilt and buy a pod lock Wink What he said.

  20. Glare from the sun is a bloody killer, good clean windscreen and proper sunglasses help. But, you got to feel sorry for them that aren't prepared for it, like older folks as you say.
  21. That would make more sense to me
