  1. Friday February 19th Niall had arranged that we would go to have a look on land belonging to one of his friends family. We met Ultan in the local town and set off. Two sides of this place is surrounded by forestry, the other two by bog and lakes. In the middle of all that is an island of arable land, though I would say one quarter of it is covered by scrub, which is a shame. Ultans plan was we would set off on foot and walk around the perimeter of the entire area. I have to say, being dosed to the gills with man-flu, over dressed and carrying an 18amp battery and a 13.5lbs rifle, I was
  2. Sure you can get a light weight rifle in lots of different calibres. What make & model were you looking at?
  3. Can't you get key blanks and program them somehow? Am sure I read that can be done, don't ask me where though, memory of a goldfish.
  4. I would say look at the .22 cal centrefires so, Hornet, .222, .223, .22-250 etc. Unless I'm mistaking them for another brand, Annie brought out a centrefire rifle last year?
  5. Find out the price of ammunition that will be available locally to you. It's one thing to buy a rifle in X calibre, it's another thing to feed it. What is the land like you'll be shooting on? Big open fields, open hills, small fields? Most foxes will be shot under 200 yards IMO. The bigger calibres come into play in windy areas especially near the sea, and for long range shots. People will recommend what they own. Check out the various ballistic information available online from cartridge makers. This will give you an idea what will suit you. Mine is a .223 zeroed one inch high at
  6. I remember this song, it was one of many we learned in primary school. For some reason it's always stuck with me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVW3yPCwOfU
  7. Wednesday February 17th Last Spring saw my mate and I run around like blue arsed flies from farm to farm. All resulting from calls seeking assistance regarding foxes eating lambs. Seeing as how we both come from farming families we were glad to help out and solve those problems. We had two particularly busy months, March and April, in which we shot a not inconsiderable number of foxes for this area. Where it all went wrong was when money was mentioned. Not by us I hasten to add, maybe that was the problem. Promises were made, when cheques arrive in the post, when we next met Joe or Jam
  8. That'd be anyone who pays tax then.
  9. I never knew Belgium was in such a state, whoda thunk it
  10. Saturday 13th February Allez le Bleu, apparently. Well, the weather is supposed to turn tomorrow night. Back to the old fun and games of our wonderfully "mild" climate for the next week, which the scientographers tell us will be "changeable", right. Time to go look for a fox then isn't it. It's a cold but beautiful night out. I'm on the move just as dusk is leaving us alone with the dark starry night. Although I see signs of fox on one part of Dads land, I've not seen any eyes there. Perhaps an early morning visitor. As I've said before, I like my bed just well enough so as those f
  11. No moles here AFAIK. I think some smart lad bought a heap of mole traps to sell one year, then discovered we have none
  12. I knew I should have kept it. Could have gone on TV with the amazing Sparkesgoscromagsheep - of confused gender - that can use a Dyson! Ah well, easy come easy go!
  13. "Capt. Phil Harris of the Discovery Channel show "The Deadliest Catch" died Tuesday of complications from a stroke suffered late last month."
  14. Hi all, I am considering putting in a tender for a predator control job. Thing is I haven't got the first clue how to go about this The job entails trapping mink & greycrows and controlling foxes. I've got the experience to do those jobs no problem. The area would be several specific sites which would entail me doing considerable mileage (€40 fuel allowance per week), basically I'm at one end of it and it would stretch 100 miles away from me. The work is supposed to be "full time", yet to have that defined. May involve weekend and unsociable hours I know I can do
  15. I'm a bit out of touch with what's good now to be honest Mac, I've a Moultrie i60 and two Bushnell Trail Sentries. Two good websites are chasinggame and trailcampro.
  16. dmines That's the way to do it I bet there's no lads on the Russian Hunting Life complaining about barbed wire!
  17. You're the exception to the rule Swampy, I did say some And I definitely don't drive a Volvo Wouldn't mind having a crack at driving an arctic though.
  18. I'm gonna get strife for this... But, as a car driver, who makes a reasonable attempt not to run over little old ladies, students, sheep or other, it gauls me how some bikers behave on the road. As if it's their private speedway, driving two inches from my drivers side brake light at max legal limit. IF, God forbid, one of them ever rear ends me, I will find it hard not to say "serves you right" as he's being scraped off the road!
  19. Audi drivers are quickly catching up on the wanker scale.
  20. I would avoid exams for the next while you two, the most important part is reading the fecking question The problem with the setting as it is now, is that by the time you realise that anyone can add you as a friend without your agreement, it's already been done and X number of people are your friends and you've never heard of them before in your life. Then you're in the situation, who is that person? Are they dodgy and should I remove them? Are they genuine? Who knows, if I remove them will they lose the plot
