bore sighting will help. overdo the fist adjustment(if not known at the range shot) and make a note of how many clicks made what difference. you should be on target with 3-5 shots. a five round group to confirm. atb waidmann

vets ripping people off for docking tails!
waidmann replied to bucknut's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
or if you want to make things very straightforeward just cut a 3 or 4 day old pups tail to the required length with a resonable knife and put it back with its mother. job done. if "just cutting off" then a, make sure you are between the vertbrae b,push the skin back(away from the tip) and put a stitch in the end when done(powder the wound before sewing). as i said before its illegal if you are not qualified. waidmann -

waidmann replied to bucknut's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
its illegal to do it yourself. you can use the "hot docker" (used to dock piglets). basicly a soldering iron with a blade. you can cut them off with scissors(pushing the skin back) and stich the end. you can bite them off(plyers have the same effect). these are all methods used by a vets in my presence and so are perfectly "ok". waidmann -
if you pre emt the "attack" then you should not have too much trouble(mine is the same age).if i see someone else i put him on the lead. if i don't think he will come back i wont call. only a succesfull repetition will have the desired learning effect waidmann

if its a high bird then use the second trigger/barrel first(thats the tightest). its easy to take choke out but hard(expensive)to add it to agun that does not have screw in chokes. atb waidmann

a good choice bud, baikal are robust. when you have more cash you can get something else( and save this one for the lad or he will never forgive you ). i have two baikal s/s in the safe and use them all of the time, with shotguns its not the "price of the boat, its the quality of the helmsman". enjoy the start in shooting clays.if i may give you a tip, when you bust a clay remember that picture(barrel and clay) and just do it again practice makes perfect, don't get frustrated and keep at it.

My sentiments exactly, if they can catch a lurcher they should be in the fcuking olympics, not fcuking up dogs to be sold on at 18 months old "through no fault of their own" i could not even catch the terrier let alone my 5 month running dog chasing a dog is not a good idea, stay the most interesting thing in the park and you wont need to. waidmann

ferrets are a vital part of contolling rabbits, yep i'd carry on

i think the play side is not the problem.mine plays all the time with the terrier and staffy running around the garden like a berserker(practicing the "strike" on the terrier, taking him off his feet ).it will help build up muscles and hard tissue for the work he will have later.if i didn't let them play they would drive me up the wall pups will play, its starting them too early on work which i would be carefull of. mine get out about two hours a day (when we don't go lamping)and a long mooch on the weekend during the day(youngest is just over five months). good luck with the pup. wa

a little advice needed
waidmann replied to beggsybluestaff's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
simmons whitetail 3.5 - 10 x 50 on mine and no complaints you wont need to much magnification if shooting between close and 70yds.i zero mine at 50 yards bang on and have no trouble with that(50 yards 1/2 inch groups when i shoot straight, the rifle shoots better than i do i'm afraid ). if you walk around alot then think about a bipod with swivel, just be aware that you get more bouncers(ricochets) when shooting flat. you will find a bargain second hand(i paid 350 for a cz style with above scope and moderator.350 rounds. my brother paid about the same in 17 hmr cz american). havwe you l -
definately no matter which side of the fence people walk only footprints and less fuzzy stuff should be left behind. waidmann

i was in no way implying that you were asking to be taken out bud. i was merely saying that i sympathize fully with what you are saying, and due to that i try to take lads out who i know and trust, some will invite me to their perm' some can't. good luck in getting some land for the little one waidmann

i'm lucky to have permission and open minded enough to take lads out that i find "ok". untill now only one has tried to "get on my permission" (cheeky f**k) and so i consider myself lucky. you have to be carefull and may regret taking someone out but its part of the sport i think, some of the lads i go with have their own perm'. some don't but i would like to think they would have enough respect for me not to try going behind my back. those who have nowhere to go i try to help get some land(i had some perm' about 3/4 of an hour away which i told a lad to go and see the farmer as i rarely

idf you shoot from a car then a short barrel will be best( i don't think it get any better with lenght tbh, mine is 16"). you won't go far wrong with a cz bud.get the trigger sorted though, ground or kit fitted(grinding/polishing by a gunsmith costs about £35,trigger kits about £20.i would go for the professional job by the smith ) remington are around £5 for 100,winchester about the same for 50(i have used alot of remmy's in mine and they are fine. hope that helps, waidmann -
as this one is for hunting(just for reptiles).

Question about Deer Skulls - bit cheeky
waidmann replied to Yashca's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
a good stalker will be able to distingiush the trail from another, even over years( using over 100 signs, some "ground" some "sky") only an indian will tell you how many calves, antler size/etc as this has so many variables( how much water is around the unborn, big calf and small twins etc.sky sign CAN give a VERY ROUGH picture of antler make up). if some one thinks they can i would suggest he " speaks poison with two tongues" or has had too much "firewater". waidmann -

i'm surprised that not many have taken you up on this mate. give it a day or two. waidmann -
i,ve known a few "pits" and staffies over the years and have always found them very pleasant dogs to be around hwen well socialised. i find the "breed specific bias" that comes with them ridiculous. ok they are powerfull dogs but so are the mastiffs,danes...................... its the fighting reputation which attracts the "chav" fraterinty which makes the general consensus of "dangerous dogs" come alive. i have always thought a "fighting dog" is a dog which fights and nothing to do with the breed. i don't agree with baiting/fighting of any kind and think it is rightly banned, the poli

Putting my Lurcher on BARF
waidmann replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Nothing to do with 'new age hippy' bollocks, to me its old school and makes alot of sense, simple as. We all want whats best for our hounds, raw meat diet is logically better. But thats my opinion and all that matters to me. for what its worth i agree.whatever we feed(personal preference,time,kennel/indoors .............)it should be a GOOD diet. i find raw feeding good,i also see the benefit of "ready"/bagged food and have a happy medium where my dogs look/grow well and have good coats and teeth, energy enough to work and play all day. from what i have read raw pork is not the bes
