  1. i love a stutzen good luck with the sale bud. a good caliber and a cracking rifle. waidmann
  2. and thats the reason kc reg dogs in the main don't work
  3. in germany their version of basc will do a travelling "forest scool" to show kids stuffed animals( not fu@@ed but stuffed) and furs from managed/culled wildlife. it has gone down really well for years now, booked out in summer all the time. i don't stalk here(yet) but will ask some lads who do if they have any spare they would "donate". how about other wild animals? stoat, weasel, fox pelts are all very interesting and great to touch. i'm sure ther are hunting men and women on here who will be willing to help out a school an all for it waidmann
  4. not a fan of the semi auto's either. if you are after a .22 or .177hmr i'd lokk at the "mossberg plinkster" little guns(perfect for in the truck etc) and are going very cheap brand new. i've seen a few and they are not bad(ba/sa). waidmann
  5. on my combi i had a telescopic sight (6x42) and it was WICKED for cats, foxes etc. never really shot it over 100m though(the odd crow but not regularly),the .22 mag is capable of further. as suggested above put in for ALL of the calibers you might need(a variation costs £26 where i am) and you have five years to get the guns/rifles together. if getting all together is a problem(as it would be for me and most i'm sure) then i would get a shotgun and hornet/hmr/wmr that will let you manage your bunny and predator populus from the start(which you would need to do). get the house sort
  6. just behind pontesbury is "the bog" they have clays and rifle ranges and i presume a club of shooters for both. good luck waidmann
  7. i have one too,it does the trick change the tone all the time and make sure you kill them they don't get wise then (easier said than done). atb waidmann
  8. with a position as " single handed keeper" i would go for versatility above all. a .22lr will definately be needed i would think. do you have deer to manage? if so i would go for .243 for them and fox(if not then just for fox ) when i was working as a keeper i had an over and under .22 win mag and 20g shotgun which i always took on walk abouts, feeding etc.it accounted for alot of predators, squirrels etc etc. the .177 hmr or hornet will do you well for crows, rabbit(which the magnum will do too). a shotgun of course. put in for what you need mate, lots of people get centerfire on first
  9. good to see you getting out with it bud waidmann
  10. the better the twine the better the nets bud. you can make them out of anything waidmann
  11. it looks as though the bullet hit a rib. the worst i have seen for this was a 9.3 x86mm(a real mess) with silver tip (winchester 185gr) i had little or no trouble they have an aluminium tip.
  12. wood pigeon breed from feb(if warm enough) untill it gets too hard for them(so all year round near enough). at the moment they are still in big flocks here
  13. my mates terrier blackie ran off after a cat when we were on a job in croydon that didnt go down well with the locals!!! was it " come on blakie" he shouted????
  14. you clean your vagina with persil?????????????????????????????
  15. 35 yard zero is bang on at 120 yards , 50 yards zero bang on at 100 yards , you might be cleaning it to much i found with my hmr that the more i shot the better the accuracy got , because your cleaning after every outing its probabley taking a few shots to get back on again , i wouldnt clean it myself untill its shot 500 rounds or so or when it starts losing accuracy again. i stand corrected
  16. looks a handy biy of kit there bud,i'm sure you will have some fun on rabbit and pigeon atb waidmann
  17. i think that most found dead/prematurely roaming may well be down to loss of the mother(predation of one sort or another) but i'm sure that some are born earlier than others. it is very early but fits in with reports of matings. i have not seen any above yet only dogs mooching around. atb
  18. fight the ban..i totlly agree, the post was asking the one above what he thought. i am totally happy waiting untill my wee one is fit and able(see my previous posts on this thread) as with my terrier i don't get the push and rush mentality(like starting a terrier on rats at 12 weeks  ) each to their own i'm afraid. waidmann
  19. firstly i would not be shooting hare at this time of year bud(they have young and are pregnant). 35 yard zero is bang on at 100 yards.if the rifle is shooting ok then you should be hitting the spot. try it on a target again for a few more shots and see if the poi changes between groups, check the mod etc.
  20. i don't think you can generalise like that with lurchers bud
  21. do you not think that a dog working at an age where the joints are not fully formed or the surfaces hard would do damage? if a pup is playing it stops when it wants,if working it will go through tiredness and push itself maybe too far. thats my thinking.
  22. mine is now just about 5 months old,has just broken the front teeth.is very gangly(allthough quite quick).he will retrieve and has a very good interest in rabbits, foxes etc(he has been going out with me and the terrier since i have him). i do not think he would stand a chance on a bolting rabbit(i would be more concerned of him straining unready muscles, tendons etc) his bones are still very soft and he is nowhere near mentally ready(allthough very keen). we have these dogs for a very long time,so why rush them into work, the problems caused by "early entering" are well known (wear on unrea
  23. i have always done the same bud, when in the thick stuff a rifle is just too long(young beech and pine etc) to swing it around. i meant going out with a handgun to hunt. waidmann
  24. wel someone will be in for a bollocking at a guess glad you got it sorted
