  1. i've pm'd ss about slip leads and he doesn't do them(just a webbing strap type thing). unless he has changed something. waidmann
  2. if the main quarry will be daytime rabbits i would go for a whippet based cross(or pure whippet), possibly a beddy x whippet? bull x's are no different to any other dog bud(i have one here and he is a lamb ) they will do the job in the right cross too,i would go for something around 22-25 inch tts in both crosses. they will both retrieve for you from a hide, its just training. if sitting out in the cold maybe think of a long haired lurcher. there will be about 500 different answears here bud waidmann
  3. the general consensus in germany is that the non toxic bullets are not much cop bud, very expensive and balisticly inferior. there was an artical in the german dog and gun a while back. the stomach of some birds is so acidic that it corrodes the lead and produces lead oxide, killing the birds(in germany the gralloch is often left for scavengerss such as the sea eagles, kites, bussards etc). that projectiles are the cause of the lead pollution is very much in question which has not stopped them banning it. waidmann
  4. was it dead then?? nice shot jonny: why bother commenting on the "sport for next year" as he was obviously shooting for a farmer and therefore pest controll. waidmann
  5. if he has your snares in his room then she may catch on
  6. that a degree of care needs to be taken with kida and dogs(from the hygiene perspective)is clear i hope to all of us(i tell the kids who want to kiss the dogs"of course you can,but he's just been licking his bottom" this normally helps kids have no place around dogs food bowls or faeces. that a "wild dog" would only eat what is "caught" i very much doubt.they will eat the easiest food available including kills made by other animals/roads etc, some of which have been layed in the sun for hours/days which will undoubtedly have a VERY high level of bacteria, probably much higher than buthcers
  7. why not tell his mommy that you want your snares back?? violence is not the answear here bud(you can get him after ) atb waidmann
  8. some good pics there bud my only concern would be that if hare are that proliferous then they will become ill(cokzidien, ebhs etc etc) it may be worth trying to relocate some (do you need a permit for hare??). may be worth looking into(and making sure the press get hold of it,some postive news for the hunting men for once ) you lads are lucky you can still course the hare over there, don't let them take it away lads waidmann
  9. ?????? Not sure if you are disagreeing with me or suprised that the BASC are not the best orginisation to support stalkers needs. I will admit to being privi to only a small amount of information on the lead ban but from what I do know the RSPB & BASC have both moved to support the use of non-lead bullets for stalking deer due to very small amounts of lead contamination in venison, so in fact I doubt based on their stance they would support the use of high frag bullets (at a high level of managment). For a change even the Gov have stepped back and requested MUCH more information. The B
  10. LOL I nominate oohmydog for THE most random outburs ive read . But congradulations for giving swampy some stick, he was long overdue. Hes probably ninging all the way to a psychiatrist. FTB certainly a seldom rant!!!!! does anyone know what he is on about? poor swamps, waidmann comfortning
  11. yes bud they are a similar size but the red kite weighs up to 1.3kg(milvus milvus) and the buzzard up to 1kg(buteo buteo). i'm not doubting you have seen it happen(exceptions prove rules as they say in physics) but it is certainly not the norm (an adult hare weighing between 3 and 5kg lepus europaeus). did you see the buzzard strike the hare?? my thought being he may have been "empty" which would drasticly reduce the weight?
  12. i've just heard on the news that they think it will take ten years to repair the roads after this winter. millions of people out of work and they need ten years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what do they think will happen next year after autumn???????
  13. all for it about time someone got a grip(and the iron lady certainly did that ). i like the "anal smoke thing" if i may i'll try to fit it in today(now that reads a bit funny ) atb waidmann
  14. as long as buzzards are fed on tips and the like we will have a population that is too high(as with crows etc). i have never seen a buzzard take anything bigger than a fist sized rabbit(mostly they seem to feed on mice and worms along with beetles etc). now i'm no falconer but a friend who was once told me that a buzzard while quite big does not have the "power of talon" to hold/kill very much at all. if the buzzard is capable of catching a full grown rabbit why do we not see them on every leather clad fist??? a wild buzzard will surely be fitter than any mews kept bird? a book quote:
  15. if you have the patience you can use modelling clay onto the skull. i know most order them from american sites have you tried that? waidmann
  16. nice dog. how tall is it tts? waidmann
  17. looks good,do yo have to crawl down the truck or is it not as far as it looks on the photo? i like the idea with the draws at the bottom waidmann
  18. as i said mate even if on the "wrong side of the fence" if you have the balls to shoot at it you should get rid of the gun and have a walk with the dog and find it. leaving a deer to die like that is unsporting and morally unsound( i have found that some "poachers" have had better understanding of morals and sportsmanship than alot of men with permission). i was not insinuating that clint had shot them,i am just astounded that he has found two in a week. waidmann
  19. 6ft glass rod and a cheapo reel caught loads with that! got all sorts now, sea, river and carp gear and still think of the first perch on that old thing(still at home at my dads ) waidmann
  20. lung worm? exhaustion after the mating season(weaker dogs won't feed for some time when chasing vixen about,to be beaten off by stronger dogs...........) if anybody does happen across such a fox it may be worth sending to a vertrinary clinic/university to find out what the crack is. waidmann
  21. you found two wounded deer this week??? if you shoot at it you should follow it up. i hope you gralloched them and went back when it was dark clint? waidmann
  22. i had one too,a belting little jeep i used it for feeding and generally getting about.never had any trouble in the rough, wet etc. cheap to run, insure and tax.if you can get away with the space then they are great and i would have one again now.(mine was a soft top and would be ideal for lamping on the land i have now). waidmann
  23. Lamping deer is one of the most cruelest ways of controlling them. Its a good job its banned the only thing with shooting deer in the lamp is that you take away a rest period (every time they see the lamp they will be disturbed).there is nothing "cruel" about it. deer cause damage to the land and are often considered a "pest",its ok to shoot rabbit etc in the lamp but not deer????????????????????? sorry don't get the point. i do not shoot deer in the lamp as its illegal, but if it were allowed and helped in the management plan then i would not hesitate. the shooting of deer 1 ho
  24. signed and bloody disgusted, the man has served his country(us and queen) to be dealt a crap hand by a condecending slapper?????? UNREAL only here. when he gets "one on him" and necks one of the people who live there he will get banged up the man has taken a WAR INJURY and should be put in the fecking ritz untill they find a house worthy of him and his family, that would be money well spent imho(certainly better spent than a bloody bird house for an mp ) rant over. it pisses me off that brave men and women who are willing to give evrything are treated like shit by people who neither
