RABBIT HUTCH/CHICKEN COOP/FERRET CAGE POULTRY HUT
waidmann replied to Lee85's topic in Miscellaneous
i'm afraid i'm another who is just too far away to snap your hand off on this one bud(bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!!!!) atb with the sale mate, waidmann -
from the back top and bottom??? i'm presuming that by top and bottom you mean the incisors?? and that by back you mean molar/pre molars( which i find an unusual injury from work). take him to a vets(or experianced dog man/woman)and have him checked over(to break off the hind teeth must take a hell of alot of force) he must have taken a pasting.do you havae anti biotics and pain relief for him? i hope you let him have his reward from the fox and made the whole thing a positive experiance for him. well done the dog. if he has a few teeth missing it should not affect his work too much whe

just out of interest do you not have any " self service" meals while out lamping or "in the car accidents"? some thing thats always bothered me about feeding game. i cook the rabbit before feeding to try and avoid this. allthough mine are still pups really (10 and 5 months). i'm sure they would get stuck in to it and love it. always been a biy carefull with it i suppose waidmann My dogs are not hard core workers, they all work and the lurcher gets out on the lamp a couple of times a week during the season. I live in the middle of farm land so from 7 weeks the pups see game daily

missed my first cub of the season!
waidmann replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
TO SAVE ALL THE HASSLE.... as you know of 3 litters above ground get a picture of them with a newspaper in one hand and get the cubs in the background. WONT BE THAT HARD.... 110% NO CUBS above ground moving about in hedgerows in and around Lothian & Borders i see no reason to doubt that donny c has cubs in his areas, why would i?? he has some valuble input into some threads on here. i'm sure he has little need to provide proof to any of us. i find it very likely that there are also foxes knocking around(cubs) in most areas which we have not seen/do not know of. the studie -
i would read the thread "first day ratting" below and draw my own conclusions bud.

not if frozen for a reasonable time to kill them off bud

a good read there again ned and some good pics too how old do you think he was(around three-four? the rule in europe is if the tusk is visable then around that age). there are obviously formuli to work it out on hand of the ground down surface and the diameter at the base of it but a rough idea. good on the young dogs for getting stuck in(its hard for them to manoever in the thick stuff i know and they are more likely to be struck as they often can't "roll with the blow". we lost a terrier in brambles a few years ago he couldn't get out of the way and was "grabbed" by a sow,she whacked

feeding whole is undoubtedly the "most natural" approach( all greens, calcium, protein and fat are included). any carbs will be to the biggest part half digested(corn etc in the stomach of the rabbit). i'm not sure where the three wek freezing comes from but i have heard it alot.a mate freezes for a week for the same reason. as far as worming goes i would go for the 6 weeks above, changing types of wormer every now and again. i don't feed whole but will start when the dogs a fully trained and catching for themselves( i don't want to jepardise the retrieve trainig we have going to date).

Putting my Lurcher on BARF
waidmann replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
mine get meat nearly every day(minced chicken or cooked rabbit) along with any scraps i happen to have(from our food, chop bones, veg, pasta, rice, gravy etc etc.) and there is always a bowl of complete food in the kitchen( dry) where they can eat as much as they need. they seem to be doing fine on this and certainly have enough energy to scrap and play all day when they are not working.good coat and teeth -
i have seen some grey/black crows in germany bud. they call them "fog crows" its the same species and a different type. the crow is"corvus corone corone" and the grey fellas are "corvus corone cornix" try to google it and see if thats the one you mean? other types are "corvus corax" (raven) "corvus frugilegus"( rook) and "corvus monedula" (the jack daw) "pica pica" (magpie) "garrulus glandarius" (jay) and quite rare(in germany,i'm not sure about here) the pine jay "nucifraga caryrocatactes". well worth looking into these very intelligent and often amazing birds. hope that

i use a cyclops lamp( £40) and a 10 amp battery(sealed lead acid) its not the lightest but carryable. if you are looking for a cheap lamp the cyclops is ok for the money( with red filter and 1000,000 cp. has the cigarette lighter plug on it). a battery can be had from wheelchair repair workshops VERY cheap(the service every year and change the batt, some will be well used some not, take a few from the skip and try them out atb waidmann

let the pup walk on hard surface and they will harden themselves up bud(my terrier still scratches the carpet like mad now after a while in the nettles and brambles). this will keep the claws short too. atb

i'm sure he meant he has invested more than the differance between the two sums over that time. if the dog is working well and comes with a trial i think 250 is reasonable(we would all like him cheaper though would we not ). an honest post and a good looking dog waidmann

mine is out for a few hours 2-3 times a week( bullgrey x bullwhippet) and has harder feet than my terrier(prt) the long one is 5 months the terrier 10 months.(same exercise regime at the moment). i let him run when he wants and generally have fun in the fields. he will retrieve shot rabbits and pigeons alternatly with the little fella nd loves the fuss when he does as long as he doesn't start chasing stuff(game) and getting frustrated i'm fine with the way he is doing(basic obiedience is in order.i do not encourage him to enter thick cover but won't stop him either). he will growl at th

treat her as you would a puppy, starting with basic obedience recall(without distractions, starting on a long line, then trailing line etc etc). she is still a young dog and should be correctable with patience and time. once the basic stuff is sorted get her rabbiting(well away from sheep) and build it up from there, always keeping a double watch on the problem. stop the habit dead and replace it with another(desired habit) in short. i would like to hear how you get on bud. atb

jrt first day ratting, any tips?
waidmann replied to pitmanuk's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i'm glad that works for you bud but not my idea of good husbandry at all. imo some will start later than others and still make excellant dogs and a pup of 12 weeks is still very fragile in every sense of the word. i guess we will have to agree to differ mate. all the best with the dogs. do you have any to be briught on this year? waidmann -
nice pics and fit looking dogs there bud all credit to you. waidmann

yes thats right just about WEENED at 12 weeks!! that shows what you no fella. no need to pm ive got to go out now for a bit but when im back ill prove my point to you yes bud, when i've left a litter with the mother they would not let them at the teets after about ten weeks( teeth getting too prominent). i expect your pups ate their mother by then?
