  1. some sound advice there. dropping rabbits is illegal and not to be reccomended waidmann
  2. in hermany you have to do a very extensive course to be allowed to shoot/hunt this involves around 600 euro and evening classes at college for around five months(if i remember correctly ). the course involves EVERYTHING you can imagine to do with game/vermin,forestry,farmng,ecology,enviroment,biology,european firearms proficiancy test, shooting shotgun, rifle and hanguns to name but a few of the topics covered. this is tested in a written exam and a practical shooting test(rifle and shotgun). when these are passed you go onto a oral exam against a board consisting of forester, farmer, weapons au
  3. fit looking dam and sire, healthy looking pups waidmann p.s. are they for sale? (someone i know on here is after a lurcher).
  4. yep a cracking film!!!!
  5. i am presuming the fox is feeding cubs so why would they not be to ground ftb(not having a go just wondering?) a midden is a better option for winter when food is scarce, there are lots of fresh options at the moment(if the fox is targeting hens for example). i would be looking for the earth, snaring known passes/paths/runs/fences etc and leaving a light on at the sheds he is visiting(preferably casting light onto a field which is baited over a week, sit at the weekend when he is used to the light and food). if the time is available then put the effort in and get the fox quick, minimize the
  6. find someone near you who has ferrets you can have a chat with bud they will tell or show you score(if you are lucky enough to get bitten you will know how it is ) if you are near me you can come and see the kits in a few weeks, try your hand at handling and if you still want one when they are old enough to go you can have one. waidmann
  7. once the first target is spotted he KNEW the hold over precisly for the second shot,if the second was spotted well then the third is also realistic(say the machine gun was 4inch deep and 10inch long at the action). i'm sure the man is a very good shot and has shot at ranges far further than most of us previous to this. if the report was confirmed then its true as far as i'm concerned. waidmann
  8. there are good working russels without the x's. the x's are no doubt also very good. waidmann
  9. i beleieve it says on the form that the referee forms should be sent back by the referee(you send the application and they send the forms back seperatley). i just gave them both an envelope. waidmann
  10. if he hit on the first shot and the spotter tells him where then the second shot can and should be placed better(his poa would be the "center of visible body mass" so hitting him in the stomach was really not bad!!!). to hit the machine gun with the third, well thats just showing off 3 rounds 3 hits at that distance is absolutley great shooting by anyones standards. i hope the lad gets the recognition he and his spotter deserve. waidmann
  11. do you know who has permision on the land? or who owns it?
  12. if the fox is causing damage on a sheep farm then "all methods" should be used to remove the vixen and cubs,no brainer. the man used his prefered method(lamp and rifle) by which he has shot a lot of foxes judging by his threads(which he takes the time and effort to report on,making a good read and some great pics). the thread was started to ask if and when are cubs above ground, not asking about the ethics of fox controll(fox controll and not the houndsmen, terriermens "sport").the are a pest on some farms and MUST be removed. how many of the "leave them time to breed" or "spoil the
  13. a mediocre dog can be trained well and make a good one,a well bred dog can be messed up and fail. a well bred dog trained well and given time to mature can be an excellant dog. the dogs need the confidence which can be built up and the bottle to stay. there are exceptions to every rule where untested lines still produce very good pups(untested by work but bred to have sound temperament and good health). even good show line can and will produce good dogs if trained and allowed to show their potential. the small part we have in "making" dogs we have to play with the "sense and for
  14. a mate was trailing a pig and found it in a mud hole when approached it just lay still and he was sure it was dead, he layed the dog about 20 feet away and went to try and pull it out...... the pig was not dead and took him on big time. the dog jumped on the pigs face and and held him back giving the lad time to "draw" the .357 he pulled the dog off(still on the 10m lead) and fired, the pig dropped and got straight back up "smacking his chops" so he fired again................. i asked how many did you fire,he answeared "untill it stopped coming at me"(he had fired five rounds at around si
  15. yes bud atreat every time he brings the ball back (and lots of girly squeaky voice) when he does that with all things he finds/you throw he will bring all sorts(dead rats, minging rabbits etc etc always be happy about it ). getting him to bush is less difficult than keeping him under controll(uncontrolled is useless and very annoying for all but the dog!!!) so make sure recall is good and the stop/wait on is sound 100% of the time beforehand. atb waidmann
  16. i see no reason that a biddable terrier can't bush and retrieve if thats what you want him for my russel will retrieve rabbits, ducks, pigeon and anything else he can carry a two tear old dog will learn but it may take more time to teach him what you want, does he bring a ball? this would be a good start to learn the command"bring/fetch/apport",get it set in stone and then substitute the ball with something else(pigeon wing/whole,rabbit etc). i am presuming that recall etc are top to begin with. the little dogs can and will be what you let them/give them the opportunity to be.
  17. i have had three already, today i put the frontline on after a quick stripping(all refering to the dogs by the way ). waidmann
  18. if red nose and eyes then its albino gene somewhere down the line(if patches are present then its not a true albino). this is a genetic fault and occurs in all species(even humans). i think it is more common it white bred stock(whether rabbit, dog or bird). i like the rheindeer theory better though. that spaniel must be a "bloody hell hound" waidmann
  19. i find around 150 a reasonable price(if i were breeding and someone outside of my mates wanted one then it would be around there, for a mate either nowt or for cost of docking, jabs etc depending how skint i was). i paid 130 for my russel i think if people want to pay 250+ for a pup then thats fine(without pedigree i would not be so quick to spend that on a dog tbh unless it was something special,i found the teckel x spaniel add a few weeks ago to be ok for example). waidmann
  20. i think the coat would put me off tbh. they do have a good size for the bigger lurchers though and i'm sure if there are good working strains still about they would make a good dog,i'm not familular with the breed so cannot comment on character etc(my sister had one when i was a kid and he was soft as shite with us!). i would be interested to hear what others with more experiance have to say. waidmann
  21. foxes carry some nasty stuff so i would rather not. if you do then cut the fron part away(just take the saddle and back legs). waidmann
  22. the first set of jabs is an "introduction" to the immune system the second a "booster"(they are slightly different jabs in the make up. only after the second jab is the dog to be considered"inoculated". the cost at the vets is unreal(i paid nigh on £50 for the course and a FREE microchip for my terrier and lurcher both, the yearly booster jabs i will do myself in future). waidmann
  23. is the dog kenneled on concrete? apparently urine and cement CAN be agressive to sensitive feet. i just thought that looking at the cause as well as the cure might be a good idea waidmann
  24. beutifull dogs and good to see them over here too. in the fourth pic down there is a lump on his flank which i have seen very often in short haired pointers(fat/water bubble)how old is the dog and have you had it looked at?(the dogs i have seen have been from 4th field or so when they start getting them). nice pics. waidmann
