  7. wierd things mate. produce milk and don't eat grass are moody when all is good can't park when a man is in the car but otherwise ok

  9. the bavarian mountain and hannoveran hounds have been bred for trailing over a very long time (in principle the same dogs but the hannoveran is bred bigger and stronger). the bavarian is more agile in rough terrain. there is a lot of controversey withing both clubs (resulting in alot of members leving them and founding new ones). when trained to a high standard they are excellent dogs with massive finding will and drive once upon game. you may find as above that you will have trouble getting one from germany, austria, switzerland with papers (club dogs) as they will want proof of a hun

  11. if seed is fallen and you see the pigeon taking the field on then yes. at the moment the rape is being cut(and barley) and they will draw the birds. the very best of it bud! waidmann
  12. look into the "kreisjaegerschaft" (deutsche jagd verband) and they will sort out work for the terrier men on fox days and driven shoots on pigs/deer etc.the man in paderborn/gutersloh is wolfgang grabitz, he also organizes the traing courses for the examination to jagdschein (also look into "auslaenderjagdschein" if you have any qualifications which can be accepted you may not need to do the course!) depending on what terrier/dog you have to work the clubs will also organize trials/tests and work for their breeds. as with the sport (don't refer to hunting as a sport over there they don'

  15. there was a threadon this a few months ago and it seemed the general consensus was it is better to remove the problem toe than to have constant lay off/injury ( for the dog!). i'm no expert and am sure that someone with first hand experiance will give you more help. what is the vet saying? which toe is it? is it broken? atb waidmann
  16. clean by depeche mode. clean, the cleanest i've been, put an end to the tears of inbetween years and the troubles i've seen....... splendid song black hole sun is another fav' of mine (not sure who it was soundgarden?). some good stuff by "nine inch nails" about too. michael
  17. a touchy subject. neither the .22lr nor the .17hmr are "ideal" foxing calibers, they will both kill a fox at decent ranges BUT neither are suitble without a backstop!! if there are no natural backstops then the only option is to elevate your position (high seats etc) or to create backstops/lure the to a backstop. many of us will have "opportunistic fox" on our fac for the.22lr. many of us have the .17hmr as a "foxing" on there too, that does not make them the best choice for the job. often "the best rifle for fox is the one you are holding at the time" as long as the power is there to kill
  18. good show! well managed! well worth the trip down bud, good to put some faces to the "cyber names". see you ext time around. atb michael
  19. i would open up the middle of the pond and leave the protective tree's standing(they will reduce wind, stop it icing over as quickly). if there are no duck nesting there then get stuck in with the clearing and then start feeding(better early than late) little at a time or a hopper on the island once being frequented by wild ducks. placing a calling bird on the pond will speed things up(indian runner will normally stay near the water and call quite well in my experiance). creating the enviroment for the duck is one part of it,keeping predation down( if duck feel safe they will be happier t
  20. imho this is the time for OUR organisations to be pulling out their proverbial fingers and getting some positive press, educating people, and creating a lobby for the LEGAL owners of firearms and not sitting it out in the hope that "nothing bad happens". i see the point of keeping a low profile but when is the right time to make ourselves heard? when a ban is in motion? NO. i find the reluctance of the organisations to get involved sickening tbh. at least the current headcase is not a legitimate fac holder. waidmann
  21. i find the knife will not usally dull very quickly and can be "put back up" with a good steel. i have a few different ones depending on use of the blade( rough, crome and a ereo sharpener). laminate steel knives tend to blunt quite quickly( soft steel in the middle) and often need the stone quicker. what kind of blade is it you are using?
  22. hi ned. not been on here for a while now but very pleased to see the thread still going strong. keep it up bud. michael
  23. a bit off topic but did you not rescue a lurcher or simillar? you see them jumping at ironbridge but the "s bends/ meanders" further upstrem are reputed to be better for the "tourists". atb
  24. the biggest question is can you sell/use rabbits with shot in them? i could not and so have a .22lr for the job(and 12g). most will not like rabbit with shot in. atb waidmann
