  1. do you mean the casts? fur/feathers and bone in a pellet? or the shit? i woud give the dog a bone every now and again or whole chicken. good advice about reading the diet threads and winding your neck in. waidmann
  2. the first contact down there would have been a pissed off vixen i should think. get her on a few rats to forget the hole in her nose and she will be ok by the coming season i expect. i would not just give up on a dog bud. waidmann
  3. the question was not so much for me but for the lads who live nearer to the show mate good to see the clubs working for the terrier men (and terrier),another good reason to join and to support the shows by attending(at least to eat burgers and have the crack). waidmann
  4. i would of asked if the lad with the two PITBULLS had told them you were there then they could bothered him for the rest of the day trying to find out the difference between a staff and a pit waidmann
  5. is this show following the example of the other wmtc and showing docked dogs? waidmann
  6. i have voted yes as we used to do driven/walked up days for pheasant and hare. i will shoot them for the pot but at a reasonable time of year and only when needed/wanted(probably about ten a year).its not sport to shoot a hare imho(with the rifle) its harvesting.shooting hare with the shotgun can be fun but mostly not as challenging as a rabbit and nobody wants a hare full of shot. headshot for the pot so yes i shoot hares. waidmann
  7. at 15 you cannot buy a gun but you can have one given to you in your position i would read the pinned section at the top of the page and maybe use the search function to find similar topics(this has been covered quite alot hence the slow "take up" with your thread). if you inform yourself as to the rules and regs and then ask if anything is unclear you will get a better response bud. good to see that you are interested in the sport i wish you all the best and well done for getting some permission,a good start. atb waidmann
  8. Don't you mean: "They make the other mustelids look like sloths?" Not being a smart arse, I'm currently half way through reading a book about the evolution of the carnivores! i may have read a different book i refer to "mustelids" as the family mustela (nivalis, erminea, vison, putorius) and would not include the other species martes martes and martes foina(known in germany as the royal/real martins,as opposed to the stink martins above). lutra and meles being the only others i can think of would also not be included in the mustelid family. as i would see it the mustel
  9. i have a mono(hazel with a fork at the top) and a bi (two hazel sticks waist high). depending on cover i can choose which sticks to take (low cover/winter/undulating land rifle bipod, this time of year/mostly flat land "kneeling stick",later on in the year/airfield etc "standing stick"). you can make the stick to fit for nothing when using hazel or the like. the only problem is a stick up to your nose will seldom fit well in the car. i have seen a very good stick made of hazel while in germany it was about an inch and a half thick but split down the middle with a screw/bolt through the t
  10. lucky to catch one mate! i couldn't see if the bib went down the front legs allthough it looks like a young pine martin to me. are you catching many mink? waidmann
  11. if the dogs are kenneled together the 3 is not a good constillation. what sex is the beddy? if earth work is not on the cards at all then i would go for a dog that CANT go to ground,if he likes the beddy then a beddy x whippet would be a very good rabbiting companion(marking, holding and catching bolters),nobody can sell you a terrier that will not go to ground(unless an older dog).saying that my bull x will go to ground if i let him!!(bullgrey x bullwhippet). if he wants a smaller dog the look in the for sale section there are some VERY nice teckel x's (jackard i think it was?) and o
  12. simple answear lads, support the fmwtc shows that are ONLY allowingdocked dogs in the working section and boycot the shows going the "wrong way". if the shows are well attended then someone will catch on won't they? why spend money supporting somthing thats not working for but against the cause?? i would rather travel to support a WORKING DOG SHOW than visit a show which supports the ban! waidmann
  13. excellant this is the kind of show that should be supported by ALL terriermen in the immediate area whether they are interested in showing their dogs or not. this is the direction to go working terriers at working shows SHOULD be docked. i wish the fmwtc the very best of luck with this and good weather and attendance on the day. a good move may be to get some postive press there to publicize the event and get it put in the intended perspective (local papers etc, try getting a known magazine to report on the show and the journalist to do a short positive artical for the locals??
  14. did it have a white or gold "bib" bud? (stone or pine martin) they are beutifull creatures and so agile its unreal(they make the mustelids look like sloths). waidmann
  15. pheasant and duck ! my ferrets arnt that lucky they have got my name on them yum yum lol.... in general the tasty bits go into the "waidmann freezer" but heads, necks and stripped carcasses are for the stinkers and dogs(my dogs are very partial to goose/duck/pheasant feet ). i dont like throwing things away (tight arse? )if it can be used well, including veg etc from the table. my ferrets get the best i can give them but at the end of the day it costs me nowt and i like em' waidmann
  16. you can buy the rigs at the tackle shops bud. what are you wanting to fish for and when? i often go to conwy and fish the estury or the coast (orm, llandudno, penrin bay) but we use different tackle depending on what we are fishing for and with what bait(just like course fishing). the best of luck to you bud waidmann
  17. i can't see that day old chicks would make a ferret aggresive?(i'm no expert by any means) mine get all sorts(corvids, pigeon, chicken mince, goose, pheasant, duck.i don't feed them rabbit very often at all as they don't like it very much ) along with dry food. waidmann
  18. an absolute stunner how is she coming on? waidmann
  19. has he tried getting the two dogs he has working on rabbit etc? staff and beddy will both do what he wants they will just need "polishing" to the standard he wishes. waidmann
  20. it would not be legal to "course" the fox even in your garden. if the dog was to take an evening piddle and the fox was there then i guess you may have some explaining to do if reported but at the end of the day who would expect a fox in the garden??????????? you may find the dog will have trouble catching the fox in a small garden and you wouldn't want the dog coursing it through the neighborhood. i would try to catch the fox by snare/live catch trap(maybe have a word with whoever owns the land behind the garden for some permission ).there are some pest controllers on here who can
  21. i had a 12 bore which would put the firing pin through "soft" primers this had thesame effect as described(riviting the gun shut, this was with skeet ammo both 24 and 28 gramm load from geco). i doubt doubling was down to the load, get the gun checked soonest bud waidmann
  22. thats what i meant with "cat" bud. if this was the work of a cat then the carcass should be covered over with grass/sticks. i've not had any experiance of lynx kills(harz mountains, bavarian forest) but have heard from people who have.if the skin is removed there should be a clear killing bite to the throat and only claw marks in the skin around the body, whereas a dog will bite all over place and the whole skin will be badly bruised. its not uncommon for fox to take the head if the quarry is too big to carry("a few days old and strong") i though i would go for something more unlikly. ther
  23. the old wives tale i know is with camemile tea(some hippies and babies drink it ) this has some antiseptic qualities apparently. i was told to bathe my eye in it when i had an infection and have done the same on dogs after working in sand. good thinking to pass this kind of thing on so that others can use it good post waidmann
  24. Good man, look forward to meeting you and dont forget to bring a load of fox and rabbit nets to sell. will do bud
