  1. glad you are getting on with things mate. my mhh hunted last season between 1lb 5 and 1lb 6, stopped rabbits very well. the thread makes good reading and i look here whenever i get the time. i'll be picking the bird up in the next couple of weeks too, really looking forward to it tbf. my mate had his female free from the creance yesterday ( first time, i'm sure his jeans were bulging a tad at the back lmao). waidmannsheil!
  2. a good post asking for advise before the bird, i wish you the very best in finding a "mentor"/helping hand to experiance this amazing sport first hand (i.e. flying your own bird). waidmannsheil!!
  3. dont give up on the diary bud, its making good reading. i'm sure advice will be given only when asked for from now on. waidmannsheil!
  4. and the case of this bird is helped by your asumptions how exactly?? we do not know how the bird became free ( nor does it matter at the moment). i do not agree that falconry is in "a poor state", only that birds have become "more available" and mistakes made by falconers can be conveyed easier through the internet etc. the place to air your concerns may well be your own thread and not this one. waidmannsheil.
  5. if the epson salt contains sulphates then this could work lol. the better way would be to check the sg (specific gravity) of the liquid in the battery and add either electrolyte or distilled water untill the lead plates are covered. this is only a workable method if the plates are not touching/bent. i did a fair bit of battery reconditioning as part of a signals course once lol. waidmannsheil
  6. grovsey- the secon post i read where you are being less than constructive, i'm sure you "know you onions" but i am also just as sure that the price of the bird/telemetry were the last thing on his mind when he LOST it. do you have telemetry on your bird all the time? when weathering/manning? i am sure the lesson has been learned without your "school master (no doubt finger in the air approach". i wish the poster all the best in getting the bird back soonest. waidmannsheil!!
  7. a mate has a very similar set( poss from you? ). if so they are top notch!!! good luck with the sale bud. waidmannsheil!!

  13. as long as she is left in peace for a while, you are not handling the young too early she shouldnt be eating the young. at the end of the day she is by the sounds of it. not alot you can do other than leave her alone with them bud, i wish you all the best with the rest of the kits. waidmannheil!!!
  14. my parson russel will bush and mark(warrens) very well under hawks, he runs on (into the chase) but doesn't bother the hawk at all ( his manners with charlie are not so good!!!!!!). top little dog and i wouldn't swap him for the world!!! i am getting a slovakian pointer for work under the gun and hawks( if i get the hawk back that is!!!!!!!) and hope she will run as well with both as the wee shite does. waidmannsheil!

hope you get him back mate

  16. i'm no expert bud but its not about killing large numbers of rabbits per outing, more the quality of the flight. harris's (in my limited experiance) will take multiple rabbits, depending on weight, fitness, experiance and above all the quality of the exchange (swapping the dead rabbit for food out of the bag, without the bird feling robbed of his efforts/prize). i would reccomend a falconry book by holinshead " days harris hawking" (i think thats the title lol) where he basicly tells wee hawking stories, quite incitfull i found. waidmanns/falconersheil!
  17. See you then mate. Can anyone explain one of lifes mysteries. I dont need any new equipment and haven't for several years but every time I go I end up spending a fortune. must nbe a compulsive buyer then lmao. cheers for a great day out bud!!
  18. will be there o sunday with a few mates, will be a good day out i'm sure. waidmannsheil
  19. i fly a male harris (last seasons bird and my first) and i get him out doing fist jumps and steep bank flying when its not possible to hunt him due to work. as above he will be entered on the lamp this year (i work two shifts so am often working untill ten at night). the more the bird flies the fitter he will be and so hunt better. the first few weeks of manning etc take alot of time (try to get the bird when you have some holiday booked and it will be easier). after that its not too bad, weighing everyday and a walk to the park when on weight to fly and feed (to hold the weight he has...
  20. will do my best to get down for the show again bud. atb michael
  21. lots of walks and play (keep the pup tired!!). as soon as it wakes up outside for a wee or whatever. keeping an eye on the pup is paramount,as soon as the signs of needing to go are there straight outside. i would keep her in a cagetoo if you dont have the time (out of the house, otherwise busy etc etc, just be sure she has water and food if for anyperiod of time). good luck. waidmannsheil

  24. i amamazed that no one has metioned "trichine" (a wire worm carried by mice and often found in omivorous mammals that eat them, pigs, badger etc) its a wire worm of only a mm or so which causes a cist on the liver and can be fatal. "aujetztky" (probably spelled wrongly) disease carried by pigs causes blindness in dogs and humans too but is cery rare (allthough still tested or inslaughterhouses on the continent). ido not feed raw pork to any of my animals (i am not a muslim cleric or anything LMAO!!!). waidmannsheil
  25. Hi mate I bought this dog and Michael said it was from that litter mate. How's yours doin? I just got this one home and I'm absolutely over the moon with him, got some real character about him. Do you know much about the breeding of the pups dam and sire? And waidman an absolute gent to deal with all his team in top condition and a real merit to him. Would have took that terrier home with me in a shot! Yis Jonny very happy to have met you bud (thanks for the kind comments),keep in touch as i would love to hear how the wee fella is coming on. if you are down this way in the f
