  1. Im pretty sure these boxes/collars can be changed so the collars work in UK, I was out recently with a local pack and they had loads of collars on hounds and the huntsman was explaining to me that he had to get someone to modify them or the box somehow and now they all work in uk.
  2. can you get some pics up, of parents and pups mate?
  3. for waterproofness, dont think you can beat paramo gear, but its expensive and if you want to push through scrub etc then i wouldnt bother as its a very soft silky material. After that I like the hard shell gortex jackets, loads of types and brands on the market. good warm fleece under the jacket, which just needs to be warm and cosy so doesnt need to be a fancy expensive type and a nice base layer. your biggest outlay be your jacket...oh and boots if you dont have any. its worth searching around online find what you would like, then google the items to find the best offers.
  4. comon lads, someone must be using one of the above boxes?
  5. Looking to get a new box, Ive already got collars. so just looking at getting a new box. Which of the ones above are you using and which would you recommend out of them two. pros and cons please.
  6. Nice looking healthy dog that....one day bird will make a post without managing to slip in a mention of his dog buck the gsd x...not soon but maybey one day...
  7. Fascinating video. Hard to watch the dogs getting slammed into the gates, though. I had to watch a few more similar ones after that as the whole herding thing is so interesting. Seeing the way a small predator can gain control over enormous cattle. The power of the eye, that determination and focus is amazing. I just got the feeling if the dogs were bit harder and use there teeth more, say like a acd would , they control the cattle better , and prob the dogs not get so knocked about. Holding back like they are , is making the cattle domineer the dogs more , well that's how it looks to
  8. No one here was there so without witnessing what happened couldnt truthfully offer an honest opinion of what happend. Gentleman good enough to take you out digging, and you come on a public forum looking for people to back up what you already think about the gentlemans dog. least thats how i interpret what you are saying.
  9. lead arrived yesterday Del, a pleasure to deal with you. black lead is spot on and i will let you know how i get on with the slip lead. atb
  10. Im originally from southport, so for us young uns (no so young now) it was always the place to bunk in get chased by the police...take the piss out the antis whilst the young scouse mob threw dead rabbit at them....lol..how we laughed.....my mate cockney colin....loud mouth that he was standing on the bank with his betting slip in hand, as the hound approached the hare right infront of us he let out a tremendous roar, the hound took fright and almost stopped and the other dog was on the hare...lol....still makes me laugh when i remember his face as he tore up his betting slip.....think i will
  11. Not sure this is the place to put this out there but may as well give it a try, as they title says what upcoming matings has anyone got planned? Im looking for one or possibly two additions to our depleted little pack. Type we like are ones that can work and hunt up daytime, prefer lurcher x lurchers types 24 - 27 tts give or take an inch, broken/rough coated to help with the harsh weather we have here. mish mashes of collie/grey/bull/beddy/fox hound etc is ideal and obviously of well proven lineage. not interested in the straight bull x types or coursing types. I have a few feelers out wit
  12. No what I thought was worse Tomo was getting into bed at night and the sheets where cold as ice and all you could do was took your knees up to your chin and pull blanket over your head and blow warm breath out your mouth to try and warm it all up...lol. ...the good old days indeed...lol
  13. Is this the case referring to Dymented and his dogs then?
  14. He was lurcher x lurcher with the line going back over some twenty odd years, a credit to his breeder, if you go back far enough you will find bull, beddy, collie and fox hound blood in the mix as well as the obvious greyhound.
  15. interesting article in the online news paper above, judge throws case out against 6 lurcher lads, because RSPCA trying to prosecute using the animal welfare act instead of the correct prosecution under the hunting act. tried to post link but i cant paste it in for some reason.
  16. Just want to thank you all for your kind words, showed the thread to my wife who has took the loss quite hard as it happened "on her watch" as she puts it, she is very grateful for your comments.
  17. Lost my big dog "Chase" yesterday, driving along the road after a dissapointing day on the hill with a young terrier in the motor who had just failed and feeling rather low, i spotted my wife walking our two lurchers across a field adjacent to the road ...I was telling my mate she is keeping them on the lead beacause there is a lot of quarry in the wood above and the dogs will hunt up off the lead and be gone for ages so she will be taking them for a walk down to the shore to let them have a run without them hunting away anywhere........some 20 mins later I drove out the lane onto the road and
  18. Down to personel choice, at end of day you should do what you think works and if its not working try something else...I keep the sleeping boxes just big enough for dogs to stretch out and stand up, with small openings(less heat loss) ...plenty clean fresh straw.....my dogs born outside and live outside % of the time, Ive never seen the need to add heat lamps even when the temperature gets well below freezing the dogs are happy enough all the time....If a dog is injured then he comes indoors in cage until hes fit enough to go back to kennel. Not saying I would never use them but just dont th
