  1. its a major fault in these bloodline in my opinion and more trouble than they worth. If it hadn't been for my mrs who put a lot of time into the dog I kept a don't believe he would of ever worked. I was close to culling the dog several times purely based on his temperament.

  5. horses for courses, the ground we cover here is very hilly, rugged with lots of forestry plantation and woodland, the lurchers have to be able to hunt up and find on there own. I think that you couldn't go far wrong with the type of cross you are considering, although I wouldn't want a half cross myself, mabey 1/4 GWP but that just my opinion.
  6. received my knife this morning, mini neck knife similar to #4 but better thanks matt, very pleased.
  7. Heres a few pics of my mates 9 yr old collie lurcher showing the younger whippet x how its done. Hes a first class ferreting and daytime little dog and catches more than his fair share even at his advanced yrs.
  8. Read his thread mate it tells you which ones are sold.
  9. Yes matt, another number 4 and I will take it!! good man.
  10. If you get the desire to make one just like it or very similar I will take it! even send deposit if you like.

  12. to mixed bag, been using the Ortovox for several years and to be honest when they working true they are spot on but I find that they fck up every year after not much use and have to be sent away for service or repair. don't know if its the same for them all but that's my experience. ortovox always have an excuse about grit or dirt getting inside etc....will get round to buying the barryvox one day.
  13. To Rabbit Hunter, you can buy peroxide at any chemist. Its pretty cheap. I like to dilute it a little as it can nip a bit used straight out the bottle.
  14. Interesting stuff Sandymere, personally I always allow my dogs small drinks whilst working. Although in truth my lurchers arnt worked as hard as some due to other commitments. It would be interesting to hear what the coursing folk think on this subject. There is those out there who know how to put a dog in top condition. I know through the early to mid nineties when we worked gamedogs the practice was to actually gradually dry a dog out prior to competition. There was some who had it down to a fine art and there dogs where able to perform for very long periods of time whilst remaining stron
  15. If your worried about calcium you can top up with a supplement for little money.
  16. These are a bit pricey, but to me Paramo is the most water resistant breathable gear on the market, living in the wet highlands weve tried all sorts over the years.. the mountain rescue round here swear by it in all weathers. Im going to invest in the new Halcon Jacket myself as it comes in a neutral green without the reflective strips etc. They on offer at Outbacktrading.co.uk 60 quid cheaper than buying off the paramo website.
  17. I do like the look of the Damascus Matt, but if im really honest, if its small, well made and razor sharp I would be happy. For me the sheath don't have to be fancy so long as it holds the knife well. just my opinion.
  18. my daughter took that one rake, she just picks up and shoots, she always captures a good shot and she only 11! far better than my attempts, I spend far too long fannying around for the perfect pic .
