Not really on topic, but what you keep depends on if you want a digging dog or a dog you can have a dig with.....theres a world of differance IMHO. Mine is the latter and thats fine for me....my rule to myself now is, I never make a judgement in the heat of the moment (I nearly have done before), I would take the dog home and have a good considered think about what went wrong before I did anything drastic. When it comes to breeding, then I reckon breed for yourself if you like what you have, give the remainder to trusted friends who you know wont bullshit and that you trust to make th

The Wraysbury area is pretty bad, loads of chav/p***y types round there. Had them rock up at 3 in the morning when I was fishing Kingmead midweek and all on my lonsome once.....they had stood up on the bank 6 handed earlier that day and eye balled all my kit. Told them to f**k off and was ready and waiting in the wee small hours. Lucky, I was fishing the spit of land by the bridge and they obviously couldnt work out how to get on there, only a narrow ditch seperates it from the main bank but that was enough to put a halt to there plans other wise it could have been emmotional. Thats tidy going, how many did you lay down to account for the 70 Ian? Like the way you paint the peg tops red, do you still use markers as well or just rely on the tops? Snaring is a great way to get the kids interested, its very hands on and they can see the fruit of their labours up close.

Aye, the wife thing was out of line, this could be a good thread if it stays sensible Fair one Hedz, you have got your standards and you stand by them.....your choice, no one elses. Some lads put up with more than others, I can accept that.....you wouldnt keep my dog, but he is perfect for me so thats all that matters

I am not having a go at Hedz or doubting his standards, all I will say is that I think if he was digging 5 days a week he would change his mind or maybe take a more considered view.......he may even keep a dog that he has stated he would normally cull or he would soon be out of dogs or not have the right tool for different jobs. Just thought The great thing with dogs is, nothing is ever set in stone JMHO Good thread chaps........be interesting to hear from lads who are digging 5 days a week, week in, week out

The standard to which a dog works and the amount of times you want to test it at that standard all boils down to what a man (or woman) wants to keep in their kennel I suppose......as has been said, as long as you are pleasing yourself thats the main job.

When topped up with shot game, the 100lb of chicken I get will last about 8 weeks or more.........thats £2 a week per dog for the best grub they can get. It dont get much cheaper if you ask me.

Aye thats true, but lots of lads are taking amounts of game that others wouldnt think possible, Now I admit, that is one hell of a lot of foxes, but because I have not seen it dont make it a lie If he had said 100 a week then yeah, but 9 if your travelling about dont seem out the way to me....that said, you would have to put some serious time in to get those numbers. atb At no point in that blokes post did he say that he was taking 6-9 foxes, 5 nights a week every week.....he said "4s and 5s upto 9...3 to 5 nights a week most of the season".....that is more than possible IMHO
