Since you ask and any mods with an itchy finger, I'm only answering the question, no need to ban me or give me warnings........ MB used to come on here bragging about Kat, what it could do. It's safe to say he got under people's skin he got thrown a challenge to match his bag chaser (cos he'd race the dog at shows) against a saluki on the fens. There was money to exchange hands, loser to leave site etc, etc. Mark took up the challenge on the day miles took a young dog and obviously mark had Kat. It was to be the best of 3. If you listen to some (chill brookie ) all Kats hares were easy a

Looks good, presuming you can train your lurcher to walk on the lead. After all horses have been controlled with a bit of leather for centuries.

Running My Dog On Frosty Ground
weasle replied to Lancashire Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Depends on dogs feet its running style a dog that runs flat out with bad feet is going to end up in tears,A slower dog with cat feet and sence not to run flat out if feels the ground hard get away with it.Then depends on the land if theres a covering of grass, land thats been cut up by stock then frozen is deadly -
i don't think a estate owner would run fox hounds though a wood full of pheasants. running an estate is the same as a business , work first pleasure after . if the owner is into his or her hounds they will get there chance before the poults go in and after the shooting season is over. i can see why a keeper would get worked up. it's there job on the line if someone keeps pushing birds out of a wood before a drive how can he give the guns what they want. NO BIRDS NO JOB and in todays climate any job is worth fighting for You would want to be pretty stupid to freelance on a e

Met a few gamekeepers , always on my tod with well behaved dog,and a ferret,Most are decent if your decent with them. They all say how your dogs going to scare the pheasants, yet having 20 guns lined up in front of them and 30 lads with dogs beating them out of covers is grand,And if the owner is into hunting the local fox pack, but take a ferret and lurcher within a 10 mile radius of a wood and all the pheasants are going to disappear. As for countryfile why watch it.

Ive heard of coursing greyhounds getting to wise and letting the other dog do the turning so they can catch it,So there not totally unable to read quarry.

I have a fast dog and a slow half x the half x has caught more rabbits for me than any other dog ive ever owned, she lamp 5 nights a week if you ask her ferreting in the day.Never once have i came back from a trip out with her buzzing in fact its boring. On the other hand i have a driven speedster had her share of injury's due to her speed,me running her on ground that i probably shouldn't and the fact that she wont let prey especially her favorite get away just because it got to the hedge before her. Fact is id rather spend a hour lamping that bitch than a season with the half x. No more half

Why do people ride motorbikes, when a car is warmer safer drier,Because they want to. If you like to see a fast dog work then you ain't going to getter faster than a greyhound,Like any fast dog your trading speed for other qualities. Why has one got to be better than another it depends what you want....

Well educated hares would fly at night more than a match for your average lamping mut. -
Hello lads and lasses I have a problem
weasle replied to Borntohuntbow's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My dogs all have learnt to use there nose long before lamping,so the first time out its nearly gaurrented there going to hunt up,When they come back i scruff them and put them on there back.I know the books would tell you never to curse a dog when it comes back, but i like to just get it over and done with works for me. -
Any one seen the cluson "light fantastic" great little( lamp) torch, beam as good as the lazerlite.

I have a glut of rabbits at the moment, and had 40 or so i couldnt get in the freezers,So i phoned a friend who runs a pack of hounds. He wouldnt feed them through fear of them hunting rabbits,I did kind of expect this, but at the same time they dont hunt cows or sheep.Any way he knows more about hounds than me,but interested to hear what others think?

Don't think any one that wants a out and out grafter would want a pure whippet,There more like falconry where its more about the quality of the sport. But defiantly the best lurcher's Ive seen have whippet in the mix, where they bring a lot to the table.

If its cold i double them up let them keep one another warm.

There good it dosnt replace excersise but it is another form of excersise. They take a bit of getting used to for older dogs. Mine do a hour at 6 -7kph up hill or down.It gos up to about 20 kph.And yes you can have it so it cuts out should the dog fall behind. Often put mine on after a mornings ferreting. When the dog spends most the time standing looking in a hedge.
-
Maybe theres nothing in there,or if there young ferrets try and use a experianced ferret to let them follow. They only need to meet one to start them. Failing that blow smoke in there face to make them angry
