  4. Yes i think the dog would need room to move away from or closer to the lamp.May be you could put it on a timer or thermostate or somthing. Or as sky cat said a good deep bed and a kennel jacket if you think she needs it save your self the electric bills.
  5. A box like that will get warm very fast.
  6. Looks to have fine enough bone to me,Its that that makes the difference in my eyes.I have heard there have been some good ones around.
  7. You cant beat being out before the suns up summer or winter.
  8. Bird no offense.I wouldn't wish any one bad luck. At the end of the day i hate bull shit,And any one saying that they haven't known this or a lot of other half cross`s fail because they didn't have the pace is talking it. Trouble with this place is most lads act like little children and throw there dummy's out of there pram as soon as some one dares to question them, even when its done politely,When in truth they cannot even go out with other lads with out falling out with them and bringing it all up on here. Fair play to you bird,Just read your reply.Knew you wouldn't have drowned it just
  9. How am i trying to bring him down?Im not going to blow smoke up his arse. Just dont see if its a rabbit dog why you would take a big heavy one,When its a cross that can be cloddy. If it aint going to be a rabbit dog then fair enough. If bird wants to take offence thats up to him but i dont see why you should get so defensive. Im sure he can talk for his self.
  10. Any one that thinks walking around with a mal x 28 29 itts is being discreet ,is having a .
  11. I ferret any were there are rabbits on my own,Rely on the dog and my hearing to know whats going on or try and get myself were i can at least see a bit of long net you can see it twitching. If theres only a couple of bolt holes the far side i double net them they never slip that.Have one farm with sheep netting and high tensile both sides and old fencing in the middle they keep you fit.Hardest is if you have other burys close by to keep the ferrets from straying again rely on the dog.As for hole hopping ,as tomo said if the long nets close to the hedge and a few purse nets on the easy holes yo
  12. Also depends on the dog,Ihave a fast dog here and at 6 shes broken up,At least partly my fault running when its been a dry Autumn running her around forestry's.The dog only knows one way and thats full on. Other dogs though will not run flat out if they feel the ground is hard. But at the end of the day you can nearly guarantee that if you take the dog out for some ferreting in the frosty weather or ground thats been cut up by livestock, in dry weather something will jump up to give the dogs a real run. All you can do is try the rest is down to luck.
  13. .Like you said, its different strokes for different folks Its nice to chat about peoples methods with out any one throwing the toys out...Yet. Any way i like hunting alone ,but ferreting on your own can be hard work at some stage i will have to let some one with me but not yet...
  14. Cookie its called pest control the farmers let you on to get rid of rabbits,Most have been on all summer and Ive been fobbing them of if i start telling them now that i cannot do the hedges because there still green they'd be getting some one Else. And i often find litters by new year that would mean starting in November and finishing by February. Ideation Ive always found the less noise the better while you have 3 or 4 lads stamping and crawling and terriers running around id have the long net out and rabbits bolting freely because they dont even know your there.I did that bury today on my o
  15. I did a bury this morning that runs about 60 yards thick with nettles and brambles,Netted 8 holes that were out in the field caught 3 in the purse nets the other 6 were caught by the long net as they bolted out of the hedge to run across the field.Always loop my long nets out from the hedge to run parallel and catch plenty.I would lose plenty if i only used long nets on the ends of burys.
  16. I bet you can......................... With a Malemute x
  17. Best pic i ever saw was a woodpecker clinging to a post while the sparrow hawk was sat on top looking for it.Its on here some where.
  18. Its much better if you take your bull x and let them see it with there own eyes
  19. I agree with that kittlerox,The only thing the dog learns is to watch the beam that only takes a couple of trips on its own any way,Lads seem to think the pups watching the older dog and studing how its running,Changing gears boxing of the hedge faking a strike they only learn that through experience. Your only frustrating it letting it watch rabbits run under its nose while you hold it back.
  20. Just put on my wellies and going out for a run,One windy February night. The pregnant Mrs calls me back to the living room to tell me her waters had broken,I tried to tell her she`d pissed herself and she`d be fine for a couple of hours while i just popped out.
