With 13-week old kits you're going to get a lot of nipping, end of story! Lol! It's just a case of handling them as much as possible, & they'll soon come out of it. Thing is, ferts have extremely tough skin, so what's a playful nip to them can be quite painful to us. The more they're handled the better they'll be though, especially if you 'scruff' them if they get out of hand. Just as it sounds, you need to get hold of their scruff & gently drag them along the floorof the court. It basically simulates exactly what their dam will do, & establishes you as 'The Boss' My ferts (all

No reason why not mate. I have 6 jills & two hobs (one entire, one castrated) & they all live quite happily together. The only time you'll have problems is when the jills start coming into season (anytime after New Years Day, as a general rule of thumb), & you'll need to to separate them. I'd advise clearing the hobs out a good couple of weeks before though, as if they're both entire they'll be knocking seven bells out of each other, as well as ragging the jills silly............

Thought you might like to see a pic of one the biggest hobs I've ever seen.................... Meet 'Teddy'. He tips the scales at almost 2.5 kilos!!! Not an ounce of malice in him though............I reckon he'll be too big to work most buries, but he'll be staying as a pet anyway Anyone else managed to accidentally breed a 'monster'? Lol
-
Thanks mate Wouldn't be a complete disaster if she's not up to it for this season, to be honest. I've got 8 in the court altogether (although my young hob Ted is such a monster he'd be better off be used for bolting foxes! ), so even though 4 of them are this seasons kits, and yet to come into their own, I've got scope for some variation in the 'toolkit'

Quite possible! The court's on two levels, with an open platform a foot or so high.........they've got a ramp leading up, but of course they just have to climb up the mesh to get onto it, as using the ramp wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun, lol! I wonder if she'd maybe managed to get her toe caught in the mesh on the way up, or down? Either way, she's well on the mend now, thankfully. She's one of my favourites, wee soul

One of my jills injured her foreleg last week................how the injury happened I have no idea, but I only noticed it when I gave them their morning check over. She couldn't put any weight at all on her left foreleg, & didn't really seem to realise it was actually there at all. I had a good feel over, & it didn't appear broken or dislocated, but had slight swelling. She didn't mind me having a look at it, but didn't particularly like having it extended. Apart from the fact she wasn't using the leg, she was in great fettle, rattling around like her usual daft self & eating

There's no reason why it can't be used, but (as with nylon) it's more trouble than it's worth........it'll likely tangle as soon as you look at it, & it'll be a nightmare to sort out. Much prefer the traditional materials
-
I wouldn't bother with it, to be honest. Stick with either jute or hemp & you'll not go far wrong. Both are cheap as chips, & you can pick up a roll from garden centres for a couple of pounds

That's a cabbage white moth (or butterfly, can't remember which) It was on the outside of the fur before you opened the rabbit. You just didn't notice it........................sheesh! Is it possible for a forum to implode due to a critical mass of idiots, I wonder?
-
I'd give it 4lb, to be generous...............nice fish though! Cracking tail on it, & it's obviously been in a while

Read the bit of my post about 'bad management' mate? Like I said, I could've had the lot away twice over, but they won't go anywhere unless I'm happy with whoever wants them..................I had a bloke asking for them last week (from Monifieth, you know who you are, you tosser!) who told me he needed more ferts as he'd knocked his jills on the head when they came into season. According to him they 'weren't worth the bother'..................sounds as though this guy was cut from similar cloth
-
Have you considered knitting a couple of new ones for next season?
-
Aye, and we all know what it costs to get a fert through the vet for spaying/castration, don't we? Yet you're quite prepared to happily bilk the rescue for a measly bloody tenner 'donation' after they've spent the time & cash to get them to a stage where theey're ready for re-homing? And how d'you think they come to be in 'top condition'? Because someone else has taken the time & effort to make sure these ferts are suitable for rehoming in the first place, that's why!.................people that expect something for nothing really get on my tits, & this thread indicates that a hell

Nice job, mate! Well done!
-
so glad your up on your spelling, or this could have gone a totally different way I just got that!! Took me a few seconds though!!
-
Now that's a well-handled fuzzie!
-
I reckon there's a conversation with my FAO comng up shortly then! The reason I got the hmr in the first place was so that I wouldn't have to consider drop so much at longer ranges! Plus, the extra space in the cabinet means I could fit in an extra trap gun. (Don't let the missus know though ) Thanks for that mate!
-
Thanks for that mate! What's the hornet's trajectory like compared to the hmr?

How Much To Get A Fert Castrated <- (Spelling)
Quixote replied to gilly-93's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Who do you use mate? Steves missus took my hob for castration to the vets in Blair...............apparently, Blackness has a decent ferret-friendly surgery? -
Wasn't taking the piss, mate..............PP's post just made me laugh
-
In which case it'd be illegal to deliberately trap for it.....................it's one of our rarest animals
-
Very, very nice indeed! I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of takers for custom stocks as nice as that!
-
Yep! Just as you said, well worth the read! Thanks for that! Can you tell us a wee bit more about the rifle? Here in the UK we're limited to .22 or .177 (occasionally you'll find .25, but they're not the norm) We're also limited to 12ftlbs absolute max' unless the rifle's on a firearms certificate, in which case the sensible guns keep .22 to around the 30ftlb mark with standard pellets..............

Pissing myself laughing now!!! That really tickled me........................... It's a fair point
