  1. Aye. Wee stunners! That wee jill's the spitting image on my 'Munch', by the way. And you can just tell they're looking for mischief in the first pic
  2. If it was buggered to begin with I wouldn't worry too much about the original positions? Here's how I'd go do it if it were mine? Screw the collar battery down, then set the range somewhere around 5'. Set one pot' mid-way, & turn the other fully-home (either side, it doesn't matter) then give it maybe an 8th of a turn & see what effect it has...........it'll likely still be pretty crap, but don't worry about it at this point? Keep giving it an 8th-turn at a time, & mark where you get the 'best' finding, & then repeat the performance with the other pot (i.e: turn the first one t
  3. You need to keep tweaking mate! The two work in conjunction with each other, so finding the right combination is a right pig if you don't have the set-voltages I take it everything else is in order? Batteries, connections, no corrosion, loose wires, etc? I know you've probably already checked everything, but sometimes it's easy to get caught out with a brain-fart.................I once had half a dashboard out to replace instrument bulbs before it occurred to me to check the fuse
  4. Anone else noticed the distinct lack of co-operation from Deben regarding Mk1s? Every one I've seen has the IC serial numbers scraped off, so you can't replicate, or repair, the circuit if one dies I reckon a circuit diagram would be worth a few quid!!!!!
  5. Mine was exactly the same mate! I've got two, & they both started to play up at the same time............... If you take off the lid, you'll see two 'pots' (potentiometers) One at the top right, & one at the bottom left. Without seeing a circuit diagram, I can't tell you what they do exactly, but they regulate the voltage through something-or-other on the board (it's highly-technical, & you don't need to know, so I won't go into detail ) Anyhoo........mark the exact position of each in relation to its housing, & just give them a tweak (one at a time, unitl you can ant
  6. 'Rentyboy'...........................
  7. Local car boot sale mate...............brand-new, £2 (apparently nicked though ) Ferreter? Cheers for that, mate The wee jill in the first pic's an absolute belter at the moment! She (& her sister) were actually quite dark poleys when I first got them, but now she's finished her moult she's almost a silver! The pic really doesn't do her justice........I'll see if I can get a couple more
  8. Not got a lot to add except to suggest that a longnet surrounding any tricky buries can be a godsend! Definately stick to the smaller buries, though........it's amazing how many rabbits they'll hold once the weather gets really cold, & you'll find you can make a real difference to the numbers without running yourself ragged trying to clear awkward areas. Don't worry about letting the landowners down too much. Each & every rabbit you take off their land is going to be equal to at least ten come spring
  9. You'll manage fine without one mate! After all, ferts have been used for a long time before they were invented Just make sure they're not hungry before a trip & you'll be fine................I've got two Mk1's, & the number I've times I've felt I really need to use them I can count on one hand. If you do get a lay-up, an old-fashioned, but effective, trick is to open the paunch of a rabbit, but leave the gut in place, & shove it down a hole as far as your arm will reach.........the fresher scent will more often than not lure the fert away from its kill & you'll be abl
  10. Cheers for the replies, fellas Four of them are this years kits, so are still mad as a box of frogs! The big lad's a complete net-wrecker, & he's full of mischief! He's learned that tangling a net is brilliant fun, as he gets to ambush me at the hole when I go to reset it. He doesn't half give us a laugh though Last years bino's are shaping up well.............the wee jill has an injury to her leg but she's sorted now, so she'll be ready for another trip out very shortly. And the two smaller poleys are a couple of cracking wee workers! The rest of them still to need to ge the da
  11. Do none of the other .177 'pellets' work then? Dickhead
  12. If the kits are fully-weaned & Mum's in good nick then there's no reason why not. Mind you, I prefer to wait until the kits are up a good bit, unless you've got them housed separately? Reason being, if the jill gets too fired up & you put her back in with the kits, there's a chance she could turn on them through sheer over-excitement. My main permission's only a stone's throw from my house though, so from 'bury to court' is only ten minutes in my case. You know your own ferts though mate..............
  13. Now that's how to keep ferrets! Mine are all pets as well as workers, too. The missus loves 'em to bits (& she was terrified of them to begin with.........all thanks to bad press) I get a few people asking me about the ferts, & they all have a similar preconception that they're nasty wee bite-monsters. I had one lass at work tell me they were disgusting, vicious things...............I asked her if she'd ever actually had anything to do with them? 'No', was the reply. 'So how the f*ck are you in any position to comment?' was my not-so-sympathetic reply..........'Because they eat r
  14. Here's hoping it's your boy mate!
  15. Aye! They seem to have a definate thing for 'ears', don't they?
  16. Nice ferts mate. Good to see them up on your shoulders too. My lot always seem to end up there too
  17. Thought you might like a look at my squad...........? They're handled every day, whether they're working or not. Each one is completely bombproof as a result...........and not a nose amongst them has ever been flicked When they're not out in the field, they're treated as pets.
  18. I've got two Mk1's myself. I seldom use them to be honest, but I was told today that they need calibrated every few years? I've had the lid off mine, & the IC chips have had the ID marks scraped off them, so this gives you an idea as to how jealous Deben are of their market Now! This is only an observation & I haven't yet tried it myself, but I've noticed that there's only two components you can mess about with on the board. If you take the top off, you'll see the receiver core to the right? Bottom left on the board, & top left of the core you'll see two variable resistors...
  19. Nicely-set net, that mate!
  20. So do I, he's a troll that caused a argument on another forum There we go Who the hell gives a toss? That's 3 posts wasted with you lot talking shite. If you want to do that, then PM each other & stay the f*ck off someone else's thread.
  21. It's the only way mate! Like I said, there's a lot of BS written here, & the best way to cut through it all is to be a bit more forthright, I reckon. If that offends anyone, then it's only likely to be the ones spouting the bullshit anyway, & I really couldn't give a toss for their opinions in the first place It's the people asking for decent advice & tips that I'm interested in helping, not the wannabe's, or 'internet warriors' As said, the 'sensible' advice is to handle your ferts daily, give them plenty of opportunity to bond with you, including playing (and as Downunder
  22. You don't need to 'train' a fert to work, per se...............it's a natural instinct that they all inherently have (to varying degrees) Can you 'train' a cat to catch mice? Treat the first few outings as a learning exercise for both you and the ferts. If they faff around at the bury entrances & mess up the nets, just let them get on with it & their curiosity will do the rest. You can soon sort out a net. It's really not rocket science (despite what some here would have you think) 'Ferreting' is easy..............being 'experienced' at it just takes a wee bit time, but it'll com
  23. She might well just be a bit bunged-up then mate.......especially if this has only started over the last day or so? If her scat's still solid them I wouldn't worry too much! Another thing that's just occurred to me!!!! How is she with the rest of your ferts? There's a chance that she may be trying to show you that she's the 'boss' by scent-marking 'her' spot, especially if she's only doing it when you're in the court. If she's constantly trying to drop scent, that might explain her sore arse too
  24. Have I struck a raw nerve there, son? Didn't really understand much of what you posted, to be honest. But I got the definate impression something I said may have got you a tad miffed
  25. Does her arse look bloody? Blocked glands is quite possibly the answer, but there's a chance she may have a prolapse..........especially if she's picked up a bug that's given her the runs. If she's bright enough, & still eating, just keep a close eye on her, but check her regularly. If it shows any signs of being 'raw' or bloody, get her checked by your vet. He'll likely prescribe Anusol to be honest (which means a pleasant wee job for you for a few days) Chanceas are she just has the squits though...............keep her on a dry diet for a few days, & see how she gets on. Ferts ca
