I certainly haven't been posting about it for much longer than than that, you're quite right Hmmm.............hence my repeated offers to help those with trapping questions via PM, rather than try to show how clever I am by refusing to reveal 'commercially-important' information
-
Typical you should assume it was a veiled threat...........there's a lot of blokes in your neck of the woods, & I happen to know a couple of them who've come across your work in the past. That's all

Takes all kinds, TS! There're some bloody good members on this forum, & then there are the tossers! Never mind the tossers mate...........some of them seem to think they're the 'heroes' of pest control, so take their negative shite with a pinch of salt? You'll get sod-all help from them, as they're all too busy desperately trying to hold onto the customers they've managed to fool into thinking they're worth their wages If you find your traps are getting filled with soil, it's almost certainly because you're setting them too loosely when you expose a tunnel, or you're inadverdantly

You're quite right mate! It isn't easy to be good at! But at the same time, it sure as hell isn't the 'rocket science' some of the so-called 'experts' here would like people to believe...........I've had a right good thrashing by one or two of the morons on here for recommending 'Google', but the truth is there's a lot of good information available. I'm perfectly happy to take a slating from anyone who thinks I'm an idiot.............they're more than welcome to have a go at me. But what they completely fail to realise is that sometimes someone else knows more about them, & what t

Has he given you a reason as to why he won't allow you to ferret it mate? Just seems strange that he won't let you use ferrets, but apparently is happy with snares being set in his garden

Need bigger gun
-
Heh heh heh...............some of you lot really are so gullible! If I ever decide to go into the 'Up-My-Own-Arse-Wanker' trapping business, I reckon I'd make a bloody fortune You shower bite every single time!
-
'Some of us'???? Probably only you, mate! If you're making a living from mole-trapping alone, you've obviously stumbled onto a secret no-one else knows? Love to hear what you know!? Mind you, it's probably 'commercially-sensitive' information? Beggsy? If you really want to learn how to trap moles for a charge, best advice I can offer is t'internet! 'Google' really is your friend, mate! Not taking the piss, but get your finger on the 'search' button & have a look? If you're still stuck after reading all the info' available, send me a PM & I'll help you out if I can And

Easily done mate! Good idea to get some posters up I reckon. Here's hoping he turns up soon for you!

Lol! I've got a massive poley hob myself mate. He's an absolute cracker too.Great nature, not aggressive in any way, loads of character, full of fun, etc...............I know just what you mean about 'otter'! I reckon he's to big to work. He's got the size & strength to kill rabbits underground no bother, & I reckon working him would result in every entry requiring a dig, whether it be to recover him and a rabbit, or just get him back out of a tight spot. He's kept with the rest of them, but purely as a pet, just because I like having him around Mind you, I might consider usin

Definate progress mate! Been watching this with interest & there's been some good advice given (along with the usual utter sh&te!) I'd say just keep your fingers out of the way & let her gain confidence in you. Gloves are ok up to a point, but they can sometimes teach the wee buggers that they just have to bite harder to get a response............she doesn't seem to be overly aggressive from what I've read, she just hasn't learned the boundaries & has learned that being a wee arse gets her put back down. Keep feeding her with bare hands. If she gets her teeth on you without

Incidentally, if anyone's ever stuck, cold strong black tea is an excellent antistringent/antisceptic

Like I said, why bother with markers when you can rebuild the hills over where your traps are? No-one's going to fart about messing with a 'molehill', are they? Putting up markers only highlights the fact that there's something underneath it, & there's so many idiots about that are prefectly happy to f*ck up your set that it makes no sense to advertise where you've got traps..........rake the hills flat, then rebuild new ones over your traps. Seems like a complete & utter no-brainer to me Edit: Forgot to mention that if someone digs up your trap & ends up catching their finge
-
I've changed my mind now........ As it's in a Larsen I reckon it must be either a magpie, or a crow
-
Or one of those micro-ferrets Just Google 'mole trapping'? It would take all night to type a post detailing the basics, & there's stacks of info available
-
Not that keen mate.........I generally get the farmer to run a chain harrow over them. Needs to be done anyway to save silage contamination from listeria & damage to the cutting blades. If it's a garden job I'll do it by hand. Customers love it as they can see an instant result, & they're generally panicking about the damage to their lawns. Also means I can whack another twenty onto the bill as they're so happy to find out their grass is safe. Method in the madness, matey
-
Either way, I'm pretty certain it's not a crow
-
It's a goshawk, I'm certain........look at the cheeks & flanks. And the wings in the flight pic? Mind you...........I'm open to persuasion
-
Rake the hills (or get the farmer to harrow them if there's a lot), then rebuild hills over where your traps are sited. Cost-free (to you) & the farmer gets the impression you're doing a good job before you've even trapped a single mole. Plus, you get to monitor any further activity pretty musch straight away
-
It's a goshawk
-
Kestrel........goshawk...........same thing
-
Chances are you've cleared that set mate.....rake the hills flat, then keep an eye out for more activity. Before I even set a trap on a badly-affected area I ask the farmer to chain-harrow the field. That way, any new activity can be seen almost immediately & you stand the best chance of a quick clear out. If you find a lot of your traps are being sprung without a capture (I'm assuming it's Duffus traps you're using?) try making sure they're not on a curve in the tunnel, & that they're a snug fit in the hole. Also, clear the loose soil from underneath where the trap's going to sit,

Perfect reason not to breed them then, I would've thought!?
-
what is the difference between 20 bore and 12 bore?
Quixote replied to kobidog's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
The smaller bore sizes will throw a longer shot string...............obviously slightly-dependant on chokes, but if the velocity for both carts is the same, each individual piece of shot will have similar kinetic energy at normal ranges. Horses for courses, really. If you put the string in the right place at the right time it'll kill the bird. The cartridge isn't really the issue though, to my mind. A lot of people prefer the slightly lighter weight & handling of the smaller bores. No difference in killing power though -
Lol! 'Dead ferret syndrome' mate.............it's caught me out a time or two as well! Thing is though, the wee buggers do have a way of getting under your skin, don't they? I reckon it's all to your credit you were worried!
