  1. DON'T flick her on the nose! I don't care how many times you get this advice, or from who! The only thing this will result in is a fert that's shy of your hand, & you'll spend half your time in the field chasing her around bury entrances. Anyone advocating this as a means of stopping nipping either doesn't have the first clue about ferrets, or is willing to fart about chasing them around half the day You want your ferts to work for you, be easily-handled in, or out of, the court, at the vets, in the hunting box, while removing ticks, cleaning the court etc.........? So why the hell wo
  2. I reckon they might've had a different opinion if they'd seen our feet sticking out from under that rhododendron bush though, mate? It's very true though, isn't it? We've seen the majority of people that we've met have been more than happy to see that something's being done about the damage the rabbits are causing there......time for a trip back there soon, I reckon?
  3. Not expecting you to 'kiss 'em', mate...................I was making the point that if you've kept ferrets for over 50 years, then you'd surely have more knowledge regarding them than to refer to them as 'nasty little b*****ds'? Not much respect shown for the wee beasts,is there? Or maybe you're one of the 'old school' that reckon it's the done thing to 'cull' your ferts at the end of the season to save wasting your time & energy feeding them through the summer?
  4. 50-odd years? Really? I reckon you must still be doing it wrong, mate
  5. I go along with everything that's been said I've got eight, myself. They all get handled daily, & none of them are biters. The misconception that ferts are nasty wee buggers who love nothing better than to take a chunk out of you is exactly that!
  6. How about a couple of these mate? Completely legal, & if you inform Plod you have them set to deter thieves (especially if you've made reports about break-ins, & you make sure they're only likely to be triggered by the assholes) you'll be covered ok. Especially if you have a few signs dotted around the place............ I have a few of them, & by Christ they don't half make a bang! I reckon if your assholes get just one dose they'll be off for good. One word of warning though? If you decide to go down this route, I'd let your neighbours know you have them set, & let
  7. Yep, I agree............as long as you know where she is, or can keep an eye on her, just let her get on with it
  8. I've got a 'Houdini' amongst my lot too...........doesn't matter what I try, the wee bugger will still manage to get out unless she's shut in her run. My last 'brainwave' was to use a length of heavy-duty cardboard tubing from industril clingfilm along the top of their exercise run (along the same lines as HM prisons use to keep the bad lads in) Didn't make a bit of difference..............after haf an hour spent scoping it out, the wee menace managed to find a way, & sat on top of it looking at me with a very smug expression I'm considering velcro-ing her to the wall as my next measu
  9. Aye...........and those trousers with the hole in them are now in the bin!!!!! Wish we were suffering from the heat just now! We've been down to 6 degrees recently. Gales yesterday, so we couldn't get out. Today was pretty decent though, although we had to use the break in the weather to gather up BBQs, buckets, planters, etc, from where they'd ended up! Won't be long until we get a chance to get out fro some serious bags though
  10. Don't know about anyone else, but it's beaten me. I have absolutely no idea where they are
  11. I tend to feed mine whole rabbits three of four times a week. I gut them though, as I find the ferts will leave the grass bag, & as mentioned previously, it stinks (as well as harbouring the majority of parasites) I won't put a freshly-killed rabbit in though, as I don't want fleas in the court (jury's still out as far as rabbit fleas & ferts are concerned, in my view), but I leave the liver & kidneys in.......well, those that the mtt doesn't steal, anyway They always have access to Chudleys though..............I have eight in the court together, & they get through an ent
  12. I think that might be them mate!
  13. I tnk I'll go & get the malt out...............you'd be amazed at the things I see when I'm half-way down a bottle
  14. Think I must need my eyes tested too Is that them to the right of the red-handled spade? I can see something on the ground, but it might just be a ground sheet? :search:
  15. You'll probably be amazed at just how many buries there actually are! This time of year, it's impossible to find each & every hole, & even the more obvious ones are tricky to net up. In any case, with the weatehr still being fairly mild, the buns will tend not to mass up just yet, so it can be frustrating unless you've got a peach of a bury to sort out. Once the frost has killed off a lot of the undergrowth you'll be able to get in & sort yourself out much more easily, and you'll likely find each bury will be more densely populated (AND the myxy will have died down by then too) Goo
  16. Bloody hell! Are you lot going to spend the next 20 posts flaming this poor fella, or actually post anything useful? Not going to apologise if this pisses anyone off, but there seem to be awful lot of gobby wee lads on this forum who'd probably be a lot better off keeping their traps shut, & their ears open before they launch into an attack on some poor sod. If you can contribute to a thread, then do so............if not, then shut the f*ck up & just read it
  17. If we do, remember you own the folding spade? After all, I wouldn't want to be held responsible if it got broken
  18. Yep! Nice looking ferts Incidentally, Teds dam was one of a pair of poley jills I got from Lavyheed last year..........there's not a pick on her, but her litter had two massive hobs. T'other one was a big bino that went to a friend of mine. Apparently, he's just as daft as the one I've got Ted's developed the habitof chasing the spaniel around the garden. He tagged him once, & thought it was hilarious, so he's taken to hiding under a pallet when I let him out & ambushing the mutt from cover! It's bloody hilarious seeing him dart out for a commando assault, then hearing his mu
  19. Heh heh.......no, I wouldn't reckon that as a job for him (or any hob, for that matter) Ferrets aren't the right tool for that job under any circumstances mate
  20. Bruiser was a big 'un mate, that's for sure! As I mentioned on the phone, we'll give him a chance tomorrow? Might need to take the shotty though, I reckon he may well put up a fox or two..............lol We can always use him as a stop if we run out of nets
  21. Great fuel for the anti's mate.............
  22. Everyone's got to learn mate, you're doing the right thing by asking questions! Don't be afraid to ask anything, even if you think it's a 'dumb' question! Sure, there'll be plenty here willing to jump in to take the piss, but you'll soon suss them out & you'll find there's also plenty people around more than happy to sort you out with the answers You'll never mistake your fert wanting to play with you for anything else! Lol...........My lot get turned on their back & their bellies scratched when they pounce on me (and they do that a lot!). The hiss is just a sing that they'r
  23. Yep, can't say I blame you mate............there seem to be a fair old few 'experts' who've barely even started shaving yet
  24. No it wasn't.............why give the guy a hard time for wanting to learn? Let's hear your views on the pro's & cons of them? Personally, I tend to find that locators have their good & bad points. I have a pair of Deben Mk2's (one still in the original box!) but I can't remember the last time I used them. Choose your buries carefully, don't treat your ferts as expendable tools, & you'll find that common sense & a bit of patience will see you right But! If you're the type of bloke who couldn't care less about his ferts, & chucks them down any old hole for the odd c
