Well well well, to say I'm proud to be British is a MASSIVE understatement! Jess Ennis, our golden girl, is a model athlete. Her determination, mental strength and dedication is second to none. Been really looking forward to the heptathlon and her performance really has been the cherry on the cake for the first week. That girls name WILL NOT be forgotten soon.

So . . . how's it going so far?
Born Hunter replied to Ideation's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Really well, much stronger birds than we have had in the past. Put a few less in each pen as well which I think has helped. One pen in particular is suffering from the Buzzards though. But feck all we can do about that really. -
Jess Ennis just equalled the Beijing 100m hurdle single event champions time! Fastest time ever by a heptathlete!

'Team UK' smashing records in the velodrome.
-
Aye, much easier to say 'Team UK!' That's too sensible.
-
The offical name of our team is 'Great Britain & Northern Ireland'. I understand what you're saying Chart. Team GB&NI would be a bit of a gob full though.

You've hit the nail squarely on the head there Gnasher. There's around 20 times as many Chinese as there are British by a rough 'fag packet' calculation. That coupled with their culture, it's a suprise they don't win Gold, Silver and Bronze in everything!

TWO MORE GOLDS TODAY SO FAR!!!! :toast: The underachievers are kicking arse now
-
Also, I'm not sure but I don't think the IOC actually support any such medal table of nations. Something to do with the olympics being about the athletes and not the nations? So basically the medal table as we know it isn't strictly 'official'.................... I think...... but it is the unoffically accepted rating system by errrrrmmmmm everyone.
-
Gnasher, Highest number of golds, then highest number of silver then highest number of bronze. If a team are tied on golds, then the order of them is decided on number of silvers and if still tied it is decided on number of bronze. That's why up untill yesterday Lithuania were beating us with their one gold! lol. Basically, no amount of silvers or bronzes are considered equal to one gold. It's a controversial system. Some say each medal should carry points, say gold=3, silver=2 and bronze=1.

And the Aussies are all ex poms.......... sooooooo I guess we claim all their medals as our own right?

Not to sound like a dick.....but Born Hunter i think you have a great outlook to sport and near always find myself agreeing with your comments ...........Just out of interest have you competed yourself at anything ?......ive often found those least critical of top athletes are usually those who know what its like to compete themself. Thanks, but no I haven't ever competed. Never really been good enough at anything as a kid so never got involved in anything seriously. Genuinely one of my biggest regrets as now I look at a number of sports and wish I had given them a serious go, if just

I have a lot of respect for sports people lord Coe but like i say,we are underachievers.Every british athlete who was expected to do well so far has major fecked up... Yeah it really sounds like you have a lot of respect...... What was wrong with Becky Addlingtons performance? It's early days still..... For all those people who like to critisize Team GB
Born Hunter replied to tegater's topic in General Talk
Do you just not get the English language or are you just a little slow? Calling someone shit IS a criticism. -
Ian Thorpe said he did the same at her age. I'll tell ya whats a disgrace, supporting an event that praises sporting excellence and then as soon as that is discovered crying drugs cheat! A sportsman would have kept their gob shut untill proof was on the table. Sour grapes in the yank camp in my opinion.

Hate tweets sent to Tom Daley (Olympic diver)
Born Hunter replied to MoChara's topic in General Talk
Social media/networking sites have and will provoke some moral dilemas. If you put yourself out there in the worlds eye then you're going to encounter the best and unfortunately the worst whether you deserve it or not. No doubt any decent human would consider the 17 yr olds actions disgracefull and a public flogging wouldn't be too bad but whether what he said is/should really be punishable by law is a bit more subjective. My feeling is that the comment should simply have been deleted and taken on the chin by Tom as a bit of life experience. The lad should be proud as feck standing up -
FFS cheating b*****d Japs! A Bronze is still excellent but what a shitty way to win it. That said, fairs fair and the japs did make a correct landing. Well done team GB!
-
FFS point inquiry!!!!! I can't bear it! lol
-
Just been watching the mens team gymnastics and it's been a real on the edge of your seat dog fight. Fighting Ukrain for Bronze and then a last minute cock up by the japs and we took Silver. Absolutely excellent result by our lads. Not a gold but a great result. Underachieving my hairy arse!

Maybe you would..But you,d also have the choice not to aswell...Simply by not allowing liquids into the games allows the vendors to set a sky high price which is wholly unacceptable imo..Knowing full well that its buy it..or dehydrate and make yourself/kids very poorly indeed... . Think you will find there are free drinking water fountains all over the olyimpic park bud I don't see what the problem is then.
-
What's an exceptable limit then? It's not like they're charging any more than any other public event. It wouldn't have been a bad idea to put out water fountains I guess. It just seems like a lot of people are jumping on anything they can for a good moan.
-
You'll pay the same at a Game fair or service station. For Christ sake it's not that bad.
-
That's good. Our forces are playing a big part in these games, nice way to show them a little appreciation. It would be good to see some youngsters put in them as well.
