A reasonably well trained one is a great dog to have. I could certainly put a fair bit of work in front of one. I'll probably have either a spaniel or a lab in the next 5 years. For the time being though, this terrier sees me alright.

Personally I thought what Jawn said was cock on and very logical. It makes no odds whether the dog is a gift or at a price, you're decision making process to take on the dog is the same. There have been plenty of dogs gifted that were shite. There's no garuntees but if you are after a certain dog or pup then you do your homework find the best you can and if it's at a price you pay it right? Or do you go to the second, third or fourth best you can find as long as it's free? I'm not saying that it's right to charge or what is fair to charge or whatever because I don't think money should be i

I think my heart will always be with lurchers. I quite enjoy having a terrier about, very usefull but I'm not a great lover of them. In the future I want a spaniel or a lab and quite fancy a GWP if I could justify it work wise. The only dog I would own without work would be a Shepherd of some sort. But then I would still expect it to look after the place and stand by me as any good Shepherd should.

Haha f**k me that's funny. The arrogance of some people is gob smacking! "When is Rome........" TOMO, I should imagine it would probably do her a bit of good! I shouldn't think any man has been near her in a while. I bet she's got more dead 'rabbits' in her top draw than you have in your freezer! LOL

They were driving a Scooby............ Shocker!!! All lurcher related trouble would end over night if all the Scoobys were clamped.

I gladly donate but don't wear a poppy all the time like many do. I hate badges or anything like that on me, I'm just funny like that. I give my respects and donate, don't see why it's expected I should wear a poppy as well so everybody knows I do? A arm band or colour clothing I would do. Isn't there meant to be a day where you wear a red item of clothing in support of our troops? I would deffinately wear one at a public event though.

Boots on, grab the leads, out the door, got to the end of the street and realised I had forgot the dogs................... Shortest mooch ever!

Is it really anybodys business if someone else sells or buys dogs?

Rare I have the patience for a big post like that, but enjoyed reading it. Well done fella and sounds like you did alright. It can be nerve wracking with shooting having such strong etiquette and all shoots differing quite passionately but the more familiar it becomes the more you will relax and enjoy the day. You'll be after a gun on a local shoot now then eh?

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology.."
Born Hunter replied to Malt's topic in General Talk
It does make you wonder but then if the demand is there I believe the graduates will be found. Many graduates, like myself, get their BSc or MSc and go into industry in various roles from actual scientific careers to any number of non scientific careers. Perhaps with a strong demand for post grads and researchers a higher average of graduates will go into the scientific & tech industry in R&D/production etc. I would imagine foriegn graduates that study here will take a number of the jobs as well of course. I guess what I'm trying to say is top end scientific research requires a lot -

Full I-Robot style house slaves with in 50 years............ Another good find Malt. I read earlier about the govenments changes to scientific reasearch funding. They have decided what areas Britain leads the world in and one of them was robotics and nanotechnology. They are trying to fund what we are good at and basically not bother with stuff we aren't, bad move in mine and many others opinions. Another case of politicians making decisions on stuff they aren't qualified to, it should be in the hands of academics not bussinesmen. Over all funding has been cut but space reasearch/tech fundi -
Did he have the full flu linning or just fit it to the already existing chimney? Was it large enough to require an air vent through an external wall for CO ventilation and did he have it done? it was fitted without a flu linning and it nearly killed him mate Yeah, thought as much. I'm deffinately going with the linner. They are safer and better for the chimney. A lot of people don't realise that because of the improved efficiency of the log burner compared to the original open fire the smoke and gases is a lot cooler and condense in the chimney unlike an open fire where it is much hott
-
some fitters do inspections, it's just a matter of which ones cheaper out of the fitter or the building inspector.. Do you know the regs? They're available online here and there, I'll dig them out if you can't find them.. I've got a folder of asorted advice and regs from various sites. I'd apreciate anything you may have malt.
-
anyone can fit one but my understanding is it needs to be certified by a a HETAS quilified engineer and correctly so Excellent, when I have finnished sorting the back yard out I'm moving onto the lounge and the log burner is first priority. I'll have to speak to a few relatvent people and see what I can get away with.

I can't be doing with paying someone to do it. I'm pretty confident I can do it myself. If I have to pay a fitter it's not happening at all I'm afraid. I just know that if you don't have them fitted by a registered fitter you are meant to get the building inspector in to give it the nod. I wonder if it is possible to get a qualified fitter in to check it over?
-
A house isn't a home without a proper fire. I'm looking to get one fitted asap. Been gathering info on building regs etc and pricing up what I need. Just a case of getting the stuff in and having the bollocks to do it now. Looking at a small 4KW one with a full flu linner. Does anybody know what the crack is with getting a building inspector to give it the nod?

Those brindles are nice. Particularly that big dark brindle. Very healthy looking pups there fella!

I dunno what the right course of action should have been. Hindsight is always viewed with 20/20 vision. Bombing the shit out of them would have knocked them back but left the whole country hating the west and not just the taliban and so probably caused a sudden surge of wannabee terrorists. I dunno, but something had to be done. It's not like previous wars where the enemy wear a marked uniform and two countries fight it out untill one surrenders. The manual is still being written on how to dig out and kill these new age terrorist organisations......

I didn't take it to be disrespectfull. I know that Poacher has the respect for all past and present British troops. I know what you are both saying but I think they have been tasked with a hell of a difficult job. Western forces will allways have an influence in that country from now on for the very reason you mention. Untill at least they feel there is no longer a threat. It's a shithole but military action had to be taken. I'm not sure what else could have been done.

25 pound groundhog with a 12 pound dog.
Born Hunter replied to deadgame's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The dog looks a little light but I would'nt say "starved" ffs. Besides, some terriers are hellish light naturaly. I know of a crossbred thing that looks like a 14" bully whippet! -
I think that's a bit of a bold statement Poacher. After 911 should we have really not done anything? I would'nt say any ISAF troops are dieing in vain. "Lest we forget"
