What are 'Feds'? -
Haha, start of the season I can't eat much on a shoot day morning, it sounds daft but I genuinely get excited.

Nostalgia - the apocalypse thread reminded me of something....

Why can't we 'like' mods posts? That was a cracking read, you've got a bit of a talent for writing. This cracked me up, it's practically scientific fact when you're a teenager; "but we always took the piss out of him for being scared and therefore naturally, a homosexual." -
I would be too concerned about being one of the few who survived to worry about regrets..... There's loads I wish I had done and wish I had tried to be a bit different, but we are what we are and even if I saw a certain death 500ft tsunami bearing down on me I'd be looking for an impromtu raft not regreting.

I read the BBC report this morning. Are we really suprised? Same story every few years. FFS just stick them on the general licence with a specific cull season and min caliber and let the farmers and gamekeepers deal with the problem themselves.

Can't say I have made any life changing mistakes yet but I'm deffinately going to be making some life changing gambles in years to come. You can't live your life thinking 'what if?', if you're not happy you have to take that chance, just make sure it's after a very calculated decision process. In 10-15 years I might be telling everyone to just be happy with what they have and not to take any risks in life, but that's something I'm going to have to learn through experience.

Well Matt, that knife is a beaut! Better than what I was expecting tbh. What I would call a simple traditional beautifull knife. It looks like you got the sheath exactly how I wanted as well. How much do I owe ya and when can I get it? LOL. I'll be down your way tomorrow (Sunday) if you want me to collect? -

WH smith gun mag ban for kids please vote

It just goes to show how far removed Britains public is from the realities of the natural world. In some cultures hunting men are admired, infact in some cultures if a man doesn't hunt he isn't considered much of a man! Too many soft manacured wankers that look down on a chap that likes getting into the world of predator a prey rather than watching it on the Discovery Channel. I'm deeply suspicious of any fella that is scared of getting a bit of mud on his face and blood on his hands! That's really f*****g rattled me! -

I went into Smiths today to buy a shooting mag to browse over while having a coffee. Went to the self service machine and it said I had to have 'authorisation for this product'............ confused as feck I went to the proper till point and it went through alright so thought no more of it. It had crossed my mind that they may have imposed a restriction on buying them and was prepared to kick off if anything was said. It all makes sense having read this....... f**k all this hippy, soft arse, lefty, PC bullshit! Australia and the States seem like the only places where a man can be a man -
Common sense? That's something gained through common experiences in life, not many people have had the experience of killing with a knife. Never mind that though, I doubt he could have cut cheese with his kitchen knives never mind a bulldogs throat. Cutting a throat is the act of a calm and premeditated killer (be that a hunter or a trained soldier), randomly and frantically stabbing is the act of a desperate and emotional person. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't call it 'common' sense.

Thats a whole different aspect to this thread though mate. Aye I suppose so, but still work that is being put in for the benefit of paying guns. Work that I don't get a penny for but put a lot of my own time in. The beating itself means more to me than the 20 quid at the end of the day. Just like seeing my efforts throughout the year come to fruition makes all the payless hours worth while. I'm not saying beaters etc should'nt be payed it's just some people seem far more concerned about how fat their wallet is than the sport they should be enjoying.

I'm amazed his terrier was still alive after the time it would have taken to run in the house and get a knife. I very much doubt he had a clue what he was doing and with your average Wilkos special it's hardly a precision tool for despatching a bulldog. He did what any average person could with probably no knowledge or experience of killing big stuff, especially with a knife.
-
All this talk of money....... how vulgar! Beating and helping run the shoot is about far more than a few quid for my time and graft. Some people are more bothered about the money than the sport for various reasons.

That's great to hear. Wish we had boar in the midlands. Keep it up.

What firearms do you use Tusker? Standing rifles or shotguns? I would imagine it would be difficult to do exactly as the Europeans do with running shots with big bore rifles. If you got it all going professionally I imagine you would get a fair few folks interested.

Would that be because the armed forces belong to the crown, servicemen/women swear allegiance to the crown, and the crown is still head of state in most commonwealth countries etc? But interestingly it appears the irish can join, despite not being in the commonwealth. and obviously the Nepalese....
-
Oh right okay, gotcha now. The Scot's are certainly a valued part of the British forces, 75% of the SAS are/were Scottish, I think that speaks volumes.
-
Hang on, now I'm no expert but do the other Commonwealth nations not have their own Forces? The Royal Navy is the naval branch of the British armed forces is it not? Not the naval branch of the Commonwealth. So surely if Scotland left the UK they would need their own forces? Because the current British Army, Navy, RM and RAF belong the UK not the Commonwealth?
-
I would imagine that it would perhaps follow a similar line to the Gurkhas. It shouldn't happen but if it did I would think it would be something like that. Maybe a free Scotland would put a stop to that though to cut all military ties with the remainder of UK? Be a f*****g sad day.

There's no chance of them going off by accident Scot, I think the worry is that if we entered into a conflict with a serious enemy our sub base would be a major target with them being such an effective weapons system. But feck it, that's hardly a major risk and the benefit of being part of the British Forces outweighs that i would have thought. Those subs/bases have the worlds finest guarding them.
