  1. the chancellor quoted 1/3 today its obvious to anyone who looks at the figures that pensions are unsustainable in the current format, however what are you going to tell the grey vote, as from such and such a date they will no longer receive a pension after paying into the pot all their lives, political suicide. That's politics, there's shit that has to be done for the good of the country that would be to the detriment of the party. It's then up to the spin doctors to try and get everybody to buy it.
  2. We can sit here and knock it all we want, that's real easy. Fact is the state pension age has to go up, it's completely unsustainable! Why should we get 1/3 of our lives in retirement? For that matter why should we be allowed to retire on the state at all? They'll sell it too us (the public) however they think best, whether it's bollocks or not, what isn't bollocks is that it has to go up.
  3. Sounds like it's going well Ideation. You decided on your future with the shoot? I seem to recall initially you only intended to do a couple seasons? Sounds like they'd miss you if you went. A very good season for us so far. The syndicate may be changed a bit for next season, some of the guns aren't really 'right'. Birds are holding and presenting well for what we have. Keeping a regular solid beat team is producing the usual problems but we are getting by. A bit of cold weather will be welcome. Pretty standard DIY shoot stuff here, but generally proving a better season.
  4. Minute of angle. It's one sixtieth of a degree.
  5. You're right but in a Thorium reactor Uranium is produced through neutron absorbtion and beta decay I believe. So both it true. I thought the big thing with thorium was its relative abundance in the earth's crust and ease of handling in a raw state when compared to uranium or plutonium. It's not fissile in its raw state, but its transmutable into uranium which is fissile. The fissile materiel is added to start it off.. A very small percentage of Thorium is fissile too. Dunno if that can be enriched? It's probably just more practical to turn it to fissile Uranium with neutron radiation.
  6. How many days shooting do you want out of it? Realistically not many on a small patch with no pens, I would think a couple before Xmas and a couple more around Xmas into Jan? I'd be looking at a rent cost of 20 quid per person per shoot. So quid each. Much more than that and you have to ask is it worth it? I mean what sort of bags are you going to expect and how much is wheat/scratchers/bales/feeders going to cost you annually? That's how I'd be looking at it... sounds a nice little bit for a casual rough shoot if you can come to an arrangement. Maybe look to put a small pen down in t
  7. Depends how accurate each of the quoted figures are. I'd put money on the Chinky one being a bit of an exageration. Also beam width, if you only have a real tight beam not a lot of power is required to get that bright because all the power is concentrated in a small beam. What about build quality and battery life? Usually the batteries where the value is.
  8. A lumen is the unit of light flux. Basically it's how intense the light is. So the higher the lumen the 'brighter' the light.
  9. You're right but in a Thorium reactor Uranium is produced through neutron absorbtion and beta decay I believe. So both it true.
  10. I don't bother, but if I did it'd have to be real, preferably one that I've found and cut myself. Just sounds a nice tradition to go out with your family and cut your own tree rather than just pull one out of the loft. That's enough of the sentimentality crap. Every year I say I'm gonna go out and make a reef for the door. Make a Hazel hoop and bind evergreens into it and holly etc..... but I never get round to it, LOL...... I must do it this year!
  11. I'm not 100% sure how it would work exactly but yes. Thorium requires an additional neutron source for a sustainable fission reaction because such a low percentage of it is actually 'fissionable'. That source is usually Uranium two three something, lol.
  12. That was good, to be honest I don't tend to worry too much about such things like wads and choke and all that but that has certainly provoked a bit of thought. Only thing I'll say is to me that fibre wad looked to give a more evenly distributed pattern? I would have liked to have seen either the plastic shot through a more open choke to see how even the pattern was once it had opened up more or just pattern them both again at 30 yards. Think I'll be patterning my gun/carts this weekend now....
  13. Still, pretty inspiring technology. One day, who knows, we might all be driving nuclear powered cars.......
  14. Lol, yeah it does..... and as with most flash feckers with such a flash motor you'll probably get a nasty dose of something while in it.... only ya GP doesn't have any antibiotics for Neutron radiation!
  15. I don't believe that, if it's got potential it'll be exploited and whichever country invested in the technology would lead the world in it and it's economy would benefit hugely. I don't buy all that conspiracy NWO crap personally. But it's not gonna be hard to 'smother' this one, it's a nuclear reactor! LOL It says its steam powered ,,, has a turbine Nuclear energy produces heat like conventional coal power stations, that heat is then used to power a steam turbine to produce electricity Tomo mate. There's only one way to get that much energy from a hand full of Thorium....

  17. http://www.laserpowersystems.com/ They're really careful not to call it what it is, that's why the article was so vague on where the actual energy comes from. The word 'nuclear' is fecking awful for PR. Salesmen avoid it like the plague. There will be one thing limiting this technology, safety, especially in todays world of terrorism.
  18. If it's realistically feasable it'll be produced... I'm still not sure from that article though exactly how it works. A thorium fission reactor? That's all it can be thinking about it.
  19. I haven't a fecking clue how dangerous it is. I was just talking bollocks. Looks harmless enough to me....
  20. yeh not great white _+ tigers though , its the only thing you got no chance against, because they can hit you from any side +underneath you in shit street. any other animal you can either leg it or pick somthing up to hit it, but a shark you fecked mate Yeah but does a shark really want to eat you or do they genuinely mistake you for a seal or whatever. Now crocs, them fuckers genuinely want you for breakfast! I think they're the only species on the planet that see humans as dinner, not just rare cases like with lions, leopards, sharks etc. Basically stay the f**k away from wate
  21. Weren't they restricted to 70 yard shots or something daft? If you're lamping 100 acre arable fields you'll not shoot many badgers from a 4x4 with that limitation. Can't see many of them getting out and walking up to brock for a shot either.
  22. It's a late German bomb detonator. They were using piezo ceramic impact detonators with a small amount of early HE. The HE has probably deteriorated by now so you should be alright but I wouldn't fancy dropping it....
  23. Ya damned right it does. If ever there was a sport fit for a King it is the pursuit of deer with a sighthound in daylight hours... In an organised formal manor with a bit of etiquette as a show of respect it'd be damn near perfect to me.
  24. For me Tomo, that's got to be up there with the best of it. Nothing like watching a good daytime hunt with your own mutts. I dunno though, I do love my shooting and the social side of it all is important to me. I guess those informal rough shooting days where we get together with a few like minded mates and their dogs for a walk up. Get a varied bag and good crack, then down the pub after to re-live the day. There's literally about a dozen different disciplines/sports I could mention but the best I can do is get it down to the two above.
