The Genetic Heritage Of The British Isles
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in General Talk
2000 random samples should be ample for statistical trends to be gathered. Bear in mind the criteria required too; The ‘People of the British Isles’ study analysed the DNA of 2,039 people from rural areas of the UK, whose four grandparents were all born within 80km of each other. There is no reason to believe that another 2000 would show significantly different trends in the data. You'll always be able to make up a conspiracy if you want to. -

Careful Welshy! Or we might just extend the kingdom of Mercia! It'd only take a weekend.... -
I found this study quite interesting; http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11480732/Britons-still-live-in-Anglo-Saxon-tribal-kingdoms-Oxford-University-finds.html Professor Peter Donnelly, Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics said: “It has long been known that human populations differ genetically but never before have we been able to observe such exquisite and fascinating detail. “We used the genetic material to really tease apart the subtle differences in DNA. And we’re able to zoom in and see which areas are closer genetically. “In a

Only game bird that comes to my mind when talking about sparrowhawks are grey partridge... which is a native species!

The only time I remove the bolt from the rifle for security reasons is if the rifle is in the car parked up. But even that seems pointless as a bolt would be easy enough to nick at a game fair or shop if you had already nicked the rifle.

And you're absolutely right, I haven't said otherwise. You took my "you don't need to join a gym to lose weight comment" and inferred that I was telling people NOT to join a gym. I wasn't telling anybody to do anything, just having a little rant. Not sure I've given any advice at all, just tried to stimulate a bit of apparently unwelcome discussion. Hence I'm trying to make an effort to f**k off.

At the risk of getting shot to shit for daring to buck tradition I wouldn't mind discussing this with you? The fasting type diets work because on average you achieve a calorie deficit as the periods of binging are physically limiting, you just can't over eat this way. The 5:2 diet is a good example, the studies have shown that on the 5 feasting days people didn't eat more than 110% what they would in a normal day. Combining this with the two 600 calorie days results in a net weekly calorie deficit. This warrior diet sounds like it's taking a similar principle only over a 1 day period than

Alright mate, I took to this thread a bit too keenly I admit. Had a shite weekend finding a dumped saluki and having to deal with it on a Sunday evening. So I went off on a bit of a rant on this thread. Just putting across what I have learnt and used to help a few people piss the weight off which they had struggled to do with all the 'conventional' thinking. I listen very closely to the fitness pros that study the science of all this just because it interests me. But don't take my word for it, listen to them yourself.

I'm still talking about low carbs Sorry for breaking into dieting more generally and questioning the real reasons for low carb weight loss.
-
Hutch, that's all very traditional thinking but there's a fair bit of science now that contradicts that. Just because it's easy here's another link that addresses the low carb business and why insulin is your friend, not the enemy. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/cutting-diets-low-carb "I think one of the more common misconstrued messages that seems to float around is that carbohydrates cause insulin to be released and insulin is a storage molecule so it will prevent fat loss. This is a rather close-minded way of looking that the physiology of the human body and doesn’t take

And just because now I've got it on me I decided to bring the gym and health pros to the THL (Because obviously I'm talking out my arse not being a pro myself......) http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/need-cardio-fat-loss The saying "abs are made in the kitchen" has become well recognised for a reason....

no. you can just maintain muscle mass (maybe only to a degree) while dropping weight,in fact this is something anyone whether they're aims are for health, performance or vanity would definitely want to do. you try taking your entire daily protein intake in one sitting then tell me you don't have a nice big dump within the next few hours which gets back to the point we seem to have strayed from 2000 cals in 1 meal is not the same as 2000 cals spread out. Neems, you are talking about two different metabolic actions. I'm not disagreeing with you that the body has a limit to usi

If a person wants to improve their car it makes sense to walk in a garage to seek advice...........this entire topic is a perfect example of why a gym is a good place to seek opinions......telling people trying to improve their body to forget the gym is like telling people trying to improve their car engine to just lift the bonnet and fiddle about with stuff ! I didn't say that at all Gnasher. If you read what I put in my following posts I said quite the opposite! If you bother to read what I put I said the only function behind weight loss is a calorie deficit. Joining a gym is one way
-
Neems, you're completely changing the topic from fat loss to lean mass gains. I told you, the body does have certain limitations with certain metabolic pathways, protein catabolism into muscle protein synthesis being one of them, hence strength athletes splitting protein intake up to 30-40gm hits through the day. But the conversion of excess calorie dense nutrients into fat is, for realistic intake, not limited! You do not just shit out the excess in some magical way. This IS used by serious athletes, they know this and most probably studied it in a masters degree.
-
you can only absorb so much of any nutrient in one sitting, whether that's protein, fat, vitamin D or water. if you eat lots of small high protein low carb meals you will hopefully metabolise more protein than had you eaten it all at once. tried and tested by athletes and bodybuilders who put this stuff into practice in the real world, regardless of what the pencil necked theorists suggest,if it ain't broke... The pencil necked theorists these days usually are athletes, LOL. What I am telling you IS used by athletes everyday, it's not just theory. The human body is only capable of dire

Spot on gaz. The only difference really is tactical. Changing what your calories a made up from and how you split them into meals through the day can and does have a effect on suppressing hunger cravings, as well of course on how your body chooses to use the various nutrients. Little and often seems to work for some but a few large meals will work for others and seems strangely to be avoided. I read something recently which im trying to recall; one thing to bear in mind is that when you have a snack it triggers the release of a hunger hormone to encourage you to eat your fill. This is only

Every individual will have a maintenance calorific requirement, simply how many calories they need to maintain their current body. Everybody is composed different etc but I'm still learning about the specifics so wouldn't like to comment. Nonetheless we all have a calorie quota for maintenance, that's the same for everyone, and likewise everyone will respond the same by going over or under that. Nobody can eat to a calorie surplus and not gain weight. The inverse is obviously true too. Imo, those that are said to be 'lucky' and able to 'get away with it', like me and you, simply have bette

Absolutely mate, without doubt it's good. By increasing activity you have created a calorie deficit as well as doing your body and health good. But had you let your appetite swell with the increased output and eaten more to compensate you would have got nowhere in terms of weight loss. That's why I say the most important thing is to monitor calorific intake, it's the only thing that matters for weight loss. I would never put anybody off going to the gym, quite the opposite. But its very important people understand the simple mechanism behind weight loss so they can approach it effectively

That's another myth that always gripes me, the gym! It seems to have creeped in to popular opinion that to lose weight you HAVE to go to the gym or be more active.... COMPLETE FALLACY! As long as this myth continues to be pushed by all the authorities and experts and Joe in the chip shop normal people who want to shift a stone or two but are not part of any fitness circles will get nowhere. Weight is lost through calorie deficit. Concentrate on your time in the kitchen, forget the gym unless cardiovascular fitness or physical performance is also a consideration.

I weigh everything I eat , stick to 1200 calories a day which is working for me , the reason I have cut out the simple carbs is because as fast as you eat them you come down from the sugar rush then your in the pantry looking for more crap , my diet consists of mainly chicken usually oven cooked ,veg ,i dont eat spuds so i stick to cauliflower ,carrots ,brocoli ...... I use a fair amount of white fish or tuna . plenty of fruit ,not keen on bananas ,but i am mindful of weighing out grapes & keeping a count of the calories I am consuming daily I think a steady 1 to 2 lbs a week is a safer wa

Having said all that, if a certain thing works then crack on! Just a bit of a niggling pet hate of mine how there is so much made of certain fads without anything made of the simple mechanism behind ALL of them.
-
Way too much is made out of 'how to diet' and 'bad foods' to the point where 99% of the public haven't a clue how to control their own bodies and so become completely disillusioned with even trying. There is only one way to lose weight and that is by creating a calorie deficit! Work out your macronutrient requirements through a very simple trial period of calorie counting and then once you have your maintenance calories create a deficit. Everyone has smart phones these day so download a fitness app and track your intake. I've got a mate that has done every fad diet going, always wa

I've trod my own path, met people along the way, no 'one' in particular. Some people are brought up with it, others find it by themselves.

LOL! All these old fuckers probably don't know what 'traditionally' comes a month after Valentines day....
