Go on Fraz, chuck some scripture up as well. It's equally as irrelevant as Prof Hawking's views on theism.

BH - You DO realise you posted this on THL and not some nerdy scientist forum, right? Sorry, sometimes I get carried away.

Only as we know it at the moment. Tomorrow could bring a huge leap forward with an unexpected discovery that would transform space travel. I'm not holding my breath. Maybe CERN will find a superluminous tachyon and special rel can go f**k itself. Or maybe we'll figure out wormhole technology. As a footnote, I watched Interstellar the other week. EPIC.... just EPIC!

Advancing our passive listening technology and operations is great. There could be any number of signals out there we are missing. Sending out more signals though, I think is foolhardy and pointless. Foolhardy because we cannot presume or even hope that an alien civilisation will have any sort of moral respect for our existence. We're primitive, have barely taken our first steps from home and would get flattened! Pointless because the likelihood of there being advanced life close enough to earth to be of the slightest interest or use is slim, we'd probably already have heard them by now, o

See what happens when the Iranian sanctions are lifted and the western oil company's start investing, ramping up Iranian production. Aramco have the power to seriously influence the world economy through managing their own production, the Iranians look to potentially be able to do the same. Bit of competition in the middle east...

What's the point in studying anything from the past? To learn how we got to where we are, no? Latin was once the language of academia, and still crops up in modern science. Even the English language has Latin derivatives. The fact that it's a dead language sort of shows the 'academic purity' in learning it, I guess I would say, like any historical language or text. It's useless from a conventional language point of view, as you imply.

They tried to drum Latin in to me at school, and failed miserably. Just cannot absorb languages. They tried French with me, I was awful and hated it. Preferred German, which seems more logical to a English speaker but wasn't allowed to continue with it so forced to fail with the French instead. Just as an adult, Latin seems interesting.

Really, we English are spoilt with our language dominating world business and being the first language of so many other 1st world countries. Our ancestor's empire days still benefiting usin that respect. I hated languages at school but now if I was to broaden myself in such a way I'd quite like to be able to speak Russian, for some reason. Learning Latin would be fascinating too.

LOL, okay, good to know the resident Muslim at work will be bringing in cake on Monday then. Not being a religious person I believe all texts are open to interpretation, including religious texts. So when one follower says this is right and another says different, I see that as the subjective interpretation of the written word, not as one is right and another wrong. So when you say that % of British labelled Halal meat isn't actually Halal, well it doesn't really make any difference, it's still labelled Halal and recognised as such by a significant proportion of people that identify as Mus

The British Halal Food Authority consider certain types of stunning permissible in accordance with their religion. This is the reason for the majority of British Halal meat being of the stunned first variety. It might not be in accordance with your interpretation of Islam, but it is in accordance with others. British being the operative word bit like SNP isnt it Okay, but aren't they Muslims then? Surely Muslim is the important bit? Or can only certain nationalities be Muslim? What about the Egyptian Fatwa Committee? I mean, what makes your Halal better than the next mans?

I did say ALMOST fluent mate. Those must be the words i haven't learnt yet. Now come on, use your nugget, at least two of the words in there are going to be 'townie twat'..... probably the last two. I have a theory about the Welsh language, I reckon when the Saxons invaded Britain they expelled all the dyslexics, who all ran for the hills of Wales and named all their new villages and towns after the ones they fled from. Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant is actually dyslexic for York!

Less powerful, not deer legal, reduced range, ammo far less available, smaller choice of rifles and second hand market. What do you mean you can eat meat shot with it exactly? Are you saying that you can body shoot rabbits and still have a decent carcass? Because a hmr fucks them up so I find it a little hard to believe that a hornet wouldnt. Though perhaps we just have a different opinion in acceptable damage. As I said, to my mind for small game for the table it's head shot only with anything more powerful than a 22 rimmy so I'm struggling to see the advantage of the 17 hornet over the 223

I think the expenses system has been completely abused but I still believe having an expenses claim system is justifiable. Any private business would offer to renumerate you if you incurred expenses through your work so I see no reason why the public sector shouldn't.

Just wanna add, I'm not trying to attack the caliber or anyone that uses it. We all have our favourites for whatever reason and I've never used one so just throwing out my ponderings.

The .223 is not really a small vermin rifle rabbits etc. It uses approx 25 grns of powder as opposed to 11.5 grns or so. The .17 is a very sweet calibre to shoot, a real pleasure. It is a small vermin rifle with genuine 200yds fox capability. Cheaper to run and nicer to shoot than a .223. The .17 rem is a different thing again, if the choice was .223 or .17 rem i would have neither as the .204 is better than both. Okay, but is the ammo cost savings worth all the disadvantages when compared to the 223? Is a 17 hornet really any better for small game etc than a 223? I mean a hmr is uns

What's the advantage of the 17 hornet over say a 223? Ammo costs? Otherwise surely the 223 trumps it in every way? Is the cost difference worth it? And finally, all things considered, is the 17 rem the better choice?

Police Shooting Armed Suspect..! Warning..graphic !!!
Born Hunter replied to Saluki246's topic in General Talk
It's the cops job to engage with potentially dangerous members of the public, if they then increase the risk to that cop by involving a firearm I consider it justifiable to shoot. Now maybe the cop could have waited for the lad to increase the risk further by actually pointing the gun at him but I'd personally leave that decision to the individual. Me... It would depend how comfortable I felt in my ability to put the lad down before I was in serious danger. If that meant shooting as soon as a gun was pulled, regardless of the lads probable intention with it, then I consider it justifiable. -
I've got to be honest. It seems an appropriate salary for such a position. Aren't MP salaries ultimately decided by some independent board anyway?... yeah yeah lets not forget it's all a façade, lol. If however you don't think that they pull their weight, then that's another matter entirely. In that instance we should be demanding greater service through more rigorous or quantitative oversight, not reduced pay, imo. Cut the deadwood through an overhaul of the system, not by reducing the salary to something disproportionate to such a position.

Nicola Sturgeon once sat on a bus next to a Mussie so think she would be in favour of Halal slaughter f**k it blame the "Religion of Peace" anyway I always thought you were a c**t now I know you are lolol another easily fended Muslim. The Parliament Act doesn't work like that. He could have all the balls he wanted, it wouldn't help. "This Act reduced the power of the House of Lords to delay certain types of legislation – specifically public bills other than money bills – by amending the Parliament Act 1911." The Parliament Act was used to push the Ban through the Lords. It can't be used to push the Ban through the Commons. Cameron can't just do whatever he wants.

Dunno about where you are mate, but summer so far hasn't been a bad'en at all here. And I'll not be taking the blindest bit of notice what they predict the winter will be like at this point. LOL

Looks like the vote is going to be postponed until Cameron gets his 'English votes for English laws' through. Thank f**k! Was I hasty in condemning this proposed amendment? Looks like it was a smart move to test the water in Westminster. This test has brought back vital intelligence and now he can move forward knowing that to have put repeal to the commons now would have resulted in defeat. The only way forward is to kill Scottish influence in England & Wales. Unfortunately for the Scots, it appears that their legislation is again under scrutiny.

Quotes of the day from the great Scottish leader; Nicola Sturgeon will punish David Cameron for his English Votes for English Laws plan by allowing SNP MPs to vote at a crucial foxhunting debate tomorrow in a bid to “remind him of how slim a majority he has”. She said: “This has thrown a debate onto Scotland’s foxhunting law. What the Conservative government are saying is that they are simply bringing the English law into line with the Scottish law but a lot of people in Scotland think shouldn’t we be tightening up our law and bringing it in line to England. “Inevitably there will now
