a very good read of someones opinion on the law
Ratreeper replied to rob284's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
yove some neck on ya talking about cruelty flying the butchers apron in yer avator.wasnt that long go yous were smashing lurchers feet with hatchets for living What do you mean, smashing lurchers feet with hatchets? Why would anyone do that?? -
My dog was hit by a car and damaged his spine and was left utterly paralysed from the ribcage back, with no feeling in his toes or otherwise. The vet said I can either have him pts or take him home and see if anything improves, so I took the latter in the knowledge that if he didn't improve within a fortnight then he never would. I have to be honest, it was f*****g awful seeing him like that and I thought I had made the selfish decision...but miraculously he regained the ability to move his legs, clumsily at first but within a couple of weeks he was trying to stand, but due to ligament damage

So there are mixed opinions from more experienced people than me. I agree with what killbilly says, it makes a lot of sense to me but I do take on board that some have a harder time than others. But with a secure pen and releasing birds a bit later, could this help? This might sound daft, but has anyone ever tried using plastic buzzards around the pen? Because they are territorial and this could possibly deter a few from getting too close, just a thought as I look at the metal heron on the pond outside the office. Or if anyone would like to hire a lanky (but well spoken) prick to fly a tra

Might have to be another day walking around the woods with my special cigarettes, bootsale sunday and a day out with the mrs Monday...Might just spend Tuesday having the longest timmy tank of my career

I can't imagine how bad it would be to become afraid of dogs, sounds like a nightmare so I am glad you're mended and the scars don't show. Nice dogs too, staffy looks a cracker

I invited a mate on my permission to shoot pigeons and rabbits, the farmer was sound and just asked not to shoot any pheasants because 'he liked seeing them around'. Well we finished the barns and I let him go ahead while I went to fetch what we shot (he was shit scared of going in with the steers, so was I but pretended not to be). Anyway I came round the corner to him looking guilty, we walked about 100 yards on and I found a dead cock pheasant and he just said 'well I never thought I would hit it at that range'...it was delicious but he didn't get invited back I don't like long shots per

Were these adult birds? Were they plucked at all too? I know they take young birds when they can and definitely capable of rabbits but I am now really unsure on their ability to take phessies adults regularly. They dont often take adult birds, you are correct in saying that. Its the damage they do before that stage though........ Do you reckon it is the odd persistent bird, or if that bird 'disappeared' and another pair moved in would they still do it? Because that is really all I was trying to say in the other thread before I started doubting myself, is that simply because there a

I can't make up my mind until there are more facts, all I know is that petrol was put through the letterbox and the parents are scum. But scum or not they would need a massive incentive to do this to their own kids. It does seem suspect, so far I go along with them thinking they could get their kids out in time and make a claim but f****d it up, maybe they didn't warn them in case they told friends at school etc so were trying to con everyone. Very f****d up if they are guilty or not, I would hate to be one of the surviving kids too!

I find it hilarious listening to some people, especially when they are haggling over 50p then the seller says no, so they dramatically put it back and walk off in a strop. I love a bootsale, bought two bags of large ball bearings for my slingshot for £1, infinitely cheaper than anywhere else. I would sell stuff if I had anything to sell, I don't have much to my name nevermind spare clutter

I have commented in a buzzard thread in the general area, and to be fair I am looking a proper tit as the dicussion goes on. I was just wondering if many people on here can comment on how common it is for a buzzard to take a pheasant, because I have grown up under the assumption that this isn't common at all, based on falconry experience and just general conversation. Thanks

People are quoting a bit out of context now, but I have had a good think about this and I think I have come on too strong and not really got my point across very well. To answer cookie, I grew up in a hamlet that revolved around shoots and hunting with hounds and started hunting myself from about 12 on my own, moved onto ferreting and falconry by 14 and carried on. It is because I love birds of prey so much that I think I am making an exception here, but the only thing I base this exception on is that I don't think controlling buzzards is effective without wiping them out or thinning out to th

We differ on what we think is important about the countryside, that doesn't make me a moron. I just don't think maximising the number of pheasants is more important than maintaining our wildlife. If for whatever reason pheasants couldn't nest because of..skylarks or something I would be singing the same tune that the skylarks are more important. If this is a load of balls then tell me why and I might not be so ignorant. I don't think I am wrong that there are exceptions in the law specifically to cover game birds, if I am wrong then again please tell me why.

What double standards? They aren't hiding the fact that the research is for the 'game industry'. So what is your point? Well one example would be that apparently we can't hunt foxes with dogs anymore because it is considered cruel...unless you are protecting game birds. I consider that to be completely mental, why isn't it OK to hunt a fox for killing chickens or lambs or for sport? Then this example, no-one has raised any issues suggesting buzzards are too common and are in any way damaging the ecosystem and have been a protected species for years, with fines dealt for people killing t

I suppose you would rather it was all sold off and built on, whatever you say about game estates, at least it remains countryside and usually has something to hunt on, with permission or not. Not what I am saying at all, I am all for pheasant shoots and that's a big reason as I am not daft enough to think 90% of small woodland is there for one reason

which experts reckon there are too many buzzards in the UK, damaging the ecosystem? I thought it was about saving moor frickin game birds, so they can make even more money and keep paying taxes whilst shutting down the countryside to everyone else. I have no problem with game keeping but it really pisses me off with the double standards

I heard people discussing this on the radio not too long ago. It is unbelievable how much they believed it, one guy who wrote the book about it was saying that fairies had attacked him and loads of other nonsense. Why do fairies only live in a few bushes in Ireland I wonder? Don't people notice this stuff is all based on hoaxes, like the myth of sex being better with love...bollocks.

they were advertised as pick up only. and theres no way on this green earth is he having a refund i think ratreeper has a point there must be a maximum time scale for pickup I mention 45 days because I bought something on ebay and it never turned up, but it was being sent to my Dad's address so I didn't realise for a while and by the time I had messaged a few times and given up to request a refund off ebay I was just told after 45 days they have no involvement. (there is no way a joke can be made out of that, I feel safe) ...... ......Was it because it was your real dad it was s
