Just had a couple of hours on a vermin mooch , still too warm 22c and very breezy. Didnt see a lot but any vermin brought to book is a good thing , especially the 2 magpies ? Unfortunately I am not the only person who shoots this ground and spent some time picking up spent cartridges , why cant they just pick them up ?

Watching an old guy on TV who predicts weather and he said snow from end of October into November ?❄❄❄

Yep Autumn is almost upon us , nights getting cooler although still unseasonably warm through the day. Breezy this morning with the leaves falling. I'm looking forward to getting my young border x out mooching for some pheasants ?

I'm in fields of sheep all the time and never had a problem they just look at you or move out the way , now cattle are a different story they can be mental especially young bullocks charging about all over , I always try and give them a wide berth ?

Theres no way I could have left it , I'm too nosey ? I would need to see if it was a dog or vixen , cub or adult and what condition it was in.

I wish it would cool down , just been out for a few hours and I was knackered with the heat again, I think it was 20c when I went out and still 17c when I packed up at dusk. Anyway I spotted an old buck on the edge of an old game cover around 180 yds away. I watched him for a while and he gradually moved a bit closer and stood broadside, I was already on the quads but had a bit of buck fever as havent shot a deer for about 3 months . I steadied myself and took the shot dropping him on the spot. What seemed like a good shot however wasnt as I was aiming behind the shoulder but hit him in the b

Popped out today intending on decoying corvids again as they have been on a drilled field all week but today they had other ideas. I only shot 4 crows and it was dead so went for a wander looking for squirrels and ended up setting up again on a stubble but still nothing moving and only shot a few birds so decided to go home. As I went through the farmyard I spotted some magpies so decided to give them a try . Glad I did as on this little mooch I shot 3 magpies and another 3 squirrels. I got a unique right and left of squirrel and magpie ? So not too bad a day in the end mopping up vermin with

I hated that Monkey programme , what a load of shit but my brother always watched it. It was on a par with Rentaghost ....remember that ?

Jack Pyke is awful cheap rubbish , I tend to buy deerhunter stuff these days as suits me , good gear and not as expensive as Harkila etc......

Yep they soon learn about IR , seen a few foxes coming in to the caller then the IR switched on and off goes Mr fox sharpish............
-
Yep we've all done it , I learned a long time ago that if you're not comfortable it invariably results in a miss. But on the other hand there is the view that if you dont pull the trigger you will not get it either , decision lies in the moment ....right or wrong.

A nice little mooch ?

I have always said if you want something doing Stav do it yourself. It is very difficult I have found to find reliable people in this world be it syndicates or work that is why I prefer now to be a lone wolf. I popped out last night to a couple of rabbit permissions just to show my face and see what the numbers were like but weather conditions weren't good , very still and still loads of cover so didn't see much. The freezer is getting low on dog meat so needed a few bunnies and managed the few that I saw.?

Back to reality mate , no more bagfuls of easy Southern foxes ?

I've shot 753 corvids and woodies off this farm since 24 April...

Today I was protecting drillings again. The last 2 days I have watched this field and there have been 2 to 300 corvids on it so was looking forward to a red letter day. On arrival though there was no birds about ? but it was only 10 am. I always sit it out all day expecting the birds to show up eventually. Anyway movement was slow but I shot really well taking most birds that ventured in range. I shot the best woodie I have ever shot , I took a right and left with the 1st bird at 40 yds and the 2nd at 60yds and it was stone dead , dropped like a brick, I was over the moon to say the least ? I also have a Tikka T3 which I bought when they were first launched and love it. Out of the box accuracy is great and as SL says they have a lovely silky bolt. I have put quite a few guys onto Tikka and nobody was disappointed but at the end of the day it boils down to personal choice.

Love it when you get 1st hand information, always helps ?
