We were beating once across September stubbles , my mates patterdale bitch put up a hare and coursed it around the stubble for a good few minutes eventually catching it , we couldnt believe it neither could the waiting guns.
Gamekeeper , Jack of all trades eh Soil management, crop management, predator management, game management public relations ....but you wouldnt swap it ?
Good start , hope you end up with a few ???. Checked out a flattened barley field today , pigeons and blacks all over but its awkward to shoot because of its location as Joe public walks right past it. So it's a 4am start on Saturday to get a few hours in before the public are out and about.
Again not true, all of my farms have populations of lapwing , curlew and grey partridge therefore foxes need controlling also when they have hungry mouths to feed. I am doing my bit for conservation to help protect these endangered birds. Saying that all my grounds are well under control in relation to foxes.
Who needs antis when we have comments like this .. I despair. I agree people shouldn't be shooting where they have no permission that's why I dont think it was shot....
Out today on the pigeons , birds decoyed brilliantly straight in to the decoys committed . Not loads of birds about but the ones that decoyed did text book and I was shooting straight missing only a couple of birds ? Final bag 48 woodies 2 ferals. Never picked them all as some dropped in the wood behind me. Really enjoyable day shooting in a t-shirt ....
Very observant Dave , yep it's a T67 ? This one is a white pill though , my old eyes struggle a bit now having to shoot with red ? I spot with Red and shoot with White ?
Had a look back to the field where the vixen was screaming at me the other night to try my luck. Spotted a cub straight away on the edge of cover, turned out to be quite small. A bit of calling and another showed, they wouldn't come in to the caller but just sat back on the edge of cover wondering what the sound was. 2 in the bag and no sign of the vixen until I packed up and was back at the car. She was screaming again but no chance of a shot. ??
Ok lads I have 3 T50 torches and a T67 which are all playing up .Basically the switches are unreliable sometimes work sometimes dont. Therefore I am after some new ones before the season starts , any suggestions what you are using at present. I like the Red Led and want something reliable. What is about these days and what do you recommend?
Received a phone call yesterday saying that the rain had flattened the barley and there was 100s of blacks on it. Problem is it's in a place that is unshootable due to a road that runs right past it through the farm where Joe public is forever passing through. People often phone the police when I'm shooting the field on the opposite side which is safer. Frustrating as I know it would be a 100 plus day ?
Yep my Foxpro has called in countless owls , both tawny and Barn. Barn owls are magical as they glide in silently and nearly land on your head . One night had 3 hovering above my head at the same time. Also called in barn owls on an evening and had one land a few feet from me on the ground whilst I was laid out flat.
