  1. Well I'm off the mark , 2 mallard came screaming past wide 50 yds out..couldn't believe it I dropped both of them ?
  2. Just doing a bit reconasence to see if any ducks or geese are coming to the stubble. So far 9 geese passed over way up but not interested , saw 3 roe and a covey of 11 partridge. See what dusk brings ?
  3. Yep I will be shower dodging I suspect....at least it might put some water in the duck ponds.
  4. Lots of rain forecast this week Stav , bloody typical seeing as I'm off ? But I will just plan around the weather accordingly.....
  5. To be fair I think he would have done a better job , Truss is awful dont like her at all .
  6. It was only a small cub actually, must just be the pic making it look bigger. There was roe everywhere yesterday on the stubbles. Told my mate that the doe cull needs taking seriously and they need hitting hard to keep the forester happy. Starting with earnest as soon as November comes ???
  7. Out with my mate yesterday afternoon to assess his roe population and try for a buck. Saw plenty roe (24 in total) mostly does and kids. Eventually found a buck but 2 does on the stubble in the way so had to take a huge detour round the back of the wood , then creep through it only to find he had moved another 500 yds up the field. We were losing the light so had to make up ground sharpish . Eventually we got in range on last knockings and what had been a difficult stalk was successful. ? A quick 10 minutes look with the thermal and I spotted a fox , a bit of lip sque
  8. Only check zero if I have a miss that I cant explain . The old scope on my .22 once zeroed only got checked 0nce in 20 odd years because it fell off my back , guess what it was fine. People like to blame the scope for a miss but in reality I have found it's always pilot error. I like to use my rounds on quarry and not paper ?
  9. Might as well start another thread seeing as the season has started.
  10. Just carry on regardless ,who knows what's round the corner.??
  11. Well done and brilliant shooting. Try getting the rifle off him now ?
  12. Unnecessary is the key word , all shooting involves death and everyone strives to make clean kills but birds do get wounded therefore it's up to the individual to dispatch any wounded birds asap as is reasonably practicable. Obviously some birds fly on and it is not reasonably practicable to dispatch these so wouldn't be guilty of an offence. Reasonably practicable is the key phrase. Noone has ever been convicted of shooting pigeons that I know of as is necessary for crop protection so just carry on.
  13. GL 42 states that you must comply with Animal Welfare Act 2006 and that it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering. Also GL42 is in place to prevent serious damage to crops .By shooting stubbles you're reducing the population that will cause future damage to the next crops or other crops still standing. The licence is written a bit ambiguous and has yet to be tested in court, time will tell. In the meantime carry on shooting pigeons for crop protection and not sport ?
