  1. Absolutely brilliant mate. That's my kind of day ,getting a fox whilst flighting is unreal, never heard of that before. Glad you got under some geese ?
  2. Used to have a blackbird in my garden with a white head ,knocked about for 3 years before disappearing. Seen a white crow and speckled jackdaws. Shot this woody last year
  3. Forgot to mention I shot 2 woodies with 1 shot . Coming in to roost I shot a bird above me , the only 1 I saw and 2 fell out of the sky. I love variety, had over the last 3 outings fox, hare, rabbit, squirrel, goose, pheasant, woodcock and woodpigeon using .243 , .17 HMR and shotgun ?
  4. I had a couple of hours walkabout this afternoon to try for a final pheasant. I started off straight away bagging a brace of cocks and on going to pick them a woodcock sprung and I took that too , great start. Knocked over a squirrel and a hen pheasant before spotting a dozen geese about 30 yds off a hedge line so I hatched a plan to stalk them up the opposite side of the hedge. Never expected it to work but I was lucky and bagged one ? Spent last hour trying to shoot woodies coming in to roost , most difficult shooting I have found and added another bonus squirrel. What a grea
  5. I had great times working the terrier marking the dry stone walls and rock piles, used to get loads of rabbits doing this , wish I could turn back time and do it all again.
  6. We used to drive about in the farmers old Defender . My best night was 213 and that was only half the night , I stopped shooting as it got boring , I know that sounds insane but true. If I'd continued all night probably could have shot 4 to 5 hundred.
  7. We took it for granted back then , waves and waves of rabbits running off fields. The farmer hated them that much he used to pump the warrens full of slurry. The crop damage was insane. I remember one day I just walked about with the shotgun with my terrier flushing rabbits from cover , I shot 77 that day , brilliant times never to be repeated.
  8. I have found memories of rabbitting in the Borders , went for around 20 odd years before RHD wiped them out. Before that you couldn't make a dent in them , we feretted, shot and lamped them killing thousands. Each year was the same even after myxy had hit.
  9. Got more respect for the fox mate , I didnt want to risk wounding it . I've shot a few with it but no more than 50 yds Also I havent used the rifle much and wasn't confident so off he went. Thanks for the clean has made a difference ?
  10. They are basically dog food or fox bait. Wish I had somewhere to sell them. Remember in the 90s I couldnt sell enough in the local Working Mens Clubs for £1 each , couldn't get enough. Used to come back from Scotland with a 100 or so after lamping , getting back home at dawn then skinning them all and be all sold at lunchtime.....couldn't be arsed with that now.
  11. Last night saw me venturing out with the HMR for some rabbits. This is the 1st time out with it since Stav kindly cleaned it for me and I zeroed it I have never really had much confidence in this rifle but last night I shot great with it with a lot of shots around the eighty to ninety yard mark. It was windy with gusts up to 20 mph and drizzly and a lot of the rabbits very shy. I saw a fox early on about 100 yds away sat looking at me but due to the poor sight pic and gusting wind I wasn't confident with the shot so let it go. The 1st rabbit I shot I left at a gate to pick up la
  12. Saturday night I had a quick hour out local and called in this vixen with dog fox mating call.
  13. Well done mate , good shot on ? I'm.on a roll had a vixen last night.
  14. I heard a pair at it the other night.
  15. They have been eradicated .
  16. Just the once mate , they found pastures anew.
  17. Cant wait for the spring drillings and getting on the corvids ?
  18. Dont hold your breath. Countryside Marches changed nothing , nothing will change in Scotland either.
  19. But you cant do anything, you cant change the law.
