  1. Look up the Animal Welfare Act 2013 www.irishstatutebook.ie Note: Not all SPCA's have been granted Authorised officer status though and authority still lies with the Council.
  2. I'd say it's a Plummer cross myself.
  3. The ISPCA are very much ANTI. You cannot be a member of the ISPCA or in their employment if you are involved in any fieldsports! One of their main goals is to help end hunting in all its forms including fishing. Not much better than ICABS or ARAN, they just wear shop bought uniforms to make these charity workers look and feel more important. It is interesting that the Gardai asked that the ISPCA attend. Not doubting you Albert, but In reality it most likely was the other way around, that is the ISPCA would "need" Garda presence when carry out their duties on private property!! They generally
  4. Never had mastitis when I was caring for a bitch. Daily handing of your bitch, pups and indeed all dogs in your care usually identifies any things that are not quite right.... Simple. But cefilexin works if not caught in time and pups can feed away. If all pups are lost at birth due to reason or other then remember bitches cannot milk themselves!! and vets tend not to give out drying out tablets anymore? so then for me it's time to get hands on and feel for any problems. Manually drawing off problem areas. 2 minute job. Same for drying them off gradually after a litter. Usually a pup I hold
  5. Yes I do. But only since recent problems with fading puppy or canine herpes. Plenty heat is recommended and it working for me, so to be honest I am kind of cautious to stop for the sake of a few quid. I have noticed pups thrive better under heat so no harm in it. 3 weeks of heat and then they are out of the danger zone.
  6. Good post by FD. I agree with most points. I can see Plucky takes great care of his dogs, but I personally don't like too much interference when the bitch is pupping. Dogs have been doing it for thousands of years and "in general" I don't see the need to turn into a dog mid-wife with towels at hand? I prefer to keep an watchful eye on matters and leave nature take its course. But we are all different! I don't panic when they are pupping and it will become obvious to most unless you are blind that a bitch is in trouble. Some bigger pups can take a little more time and rarely in my case hav
  7. RIP Jimmy. Sad time for Family and Friends.
  8. Whites Dogs would do nicely. Tip didn't land in Ireland until 1992 and was one dog in the line of many over the years. "The General" wouldn't have had any so called Sealyham in him. When breeding the breeder would like to think they are adding something to the line and hope you get it right.
  9. A lovely gesture by Barrie. A true gentlemen and friend. A superb man to have in your corner and an individual that always delivers on his word. Cant ask for anymore of a person than that! All the rest of us just need to keep our side of the bargain and stay true to terriers and terrierwork.
  10. Well Kaizer Soze..... the usual suspects are coming out now. Great Avatar name....... got a laugh off that. Spot on. JM and SK bred Blackie. Right too on Blade being acquired by JM. JB owned his sire Sam.
  11. JM bred a well known Blade dog. A dog dead a good few years now. A very good dog from those who saw him work. Been a few blades dogs between now and then.
  12. Whoops. Meant to say Frontline..... Used it no bother. The spray bottle not drops!
  13. Yes. A good dog. His half brother and son were much better dogs IMO.
  14. Grand job Kev. It will save me the hassle of renewing over the phone. I'll drop over to the stand and sort my insurance on the day.
  15. Justice was served in the end.
  16. Not long to go now Kevin........ looking forward to a grand day out. As always we can expect the show will be taken in the right manner by Terrier and Lurcher folk and some good off season banter on the day. Always reminds me of some of the shows of old.
  17. If the Vet is any good and you let him/her know that you are well capable of injecting your own dog then they should be able to give you ivermectin or bimectin on prescription. A big cattle dosage bottle that would do you years. Fooling around with drops or tablets could cost you a fortune. You would need to be careful with the dosage though and it needs to be done properly "by weight of the dog". Rippem is right about stress causing it to flare up. Hard work can bring out in some dogs probably as their immune system takes a dip..... Never had a dog go baldy on me though. I would also spray
  18. Met a few lads on the river with the hounds this afternoon. All looking forward to the day out and evening afterwards.
