  1. Who's John Welch ???? Apologies for not explaining my question. You've told us all about Mr John Winch and how much you personally know about him and then couldn't be bothered to even know his name. I've a funny feeling the first time you heard of Mr Winch was when you read P3D first post. Another thing I find funny is how you ,P3D and Corkman are always the ones questioning the breeding of black lines when none of ye keep them. Even though ,Stopend, you did ask a couple of men who keep proper lines of black terriers for pups and they reclined. So, you boys debate the topic of the blac
  2. THL will be up for "Best Comedy" in next years golden globes...... a bloody playground? Maybe we should just start the THL version of the Darwin Awards "Golden Ball" goes to the biggest knob. No wonder people don't bother posting half the time as the same ole trolling experts will be on. ?????? Back to my real life.
  3. I agree 100% that plenty of good terriermen have sold terriers and hopefully they'll continue to do so or so many new comers might have no chance to join the fancy. But what's your opinion on those who breed from 4 or 5 bitches a year, fake pedigrees and repeat matings that didn't work out the first time ? Would you bother with such folk ? Looks like you are casting a wide net as I have many friends????? I was quite clear in both my posts "I" don't like selling working dogs. Does that mean I wont speak to men that do? Not at all. Does it mean I agree with what others do? Not

  5. I usually don't bother my arse replying to you as you are just an irritant. I have lots of friends....... not like some or do you want to be more precise? And my opinion is just that, my opinion and all my friends know exactly how I feel about selling working dogs. No secret there. But whatever someone else chooses to do with "their" dogs is "their" business, no matter what I think or believe. It doesn't affect me. It also doesn't mean a man would have good or bad dogs in their yard if they sell them? It's what less knowledgeable men do with the purchased dogs is usually the
  6. Spot on post. IMO money ruins working dogs.
  7. FFS PD3 what would you know? :-) I wonder who Mr Winch was referencing about the men with ego's back then? Fells, Fells, Fells...... except for the smooth black one's that Nuttal developed?? :-) Below are fells to me. Red hairy types or broken types = Fells Black hairy types or broken types = Fells or Patterdale which would depend on your persuasion Smooth Black Type = Patterdale or Fell which would depend on your persuasion. Black & Tan hairy or broken types = Lakey Or could it just be as simple as black dog, red dog, white dog as most are just strains and various mi
  8. You would need to be really careful in what dog you choose around children with authism or other special needs. A working terrier certainly wouldn't be a choice I'd go for or a terrier type either - unless kennelled. You can get dogs specially trained for kids with authism and they specifically bred and trained for good temperaments. My brother had such a dog and he was great with the family. He also got a mongrel Pom x Russell thingy from a local pet farm which was handled by hundreds of kids daily and his temperament well tested before he got him..... which was needed believe me! Good lu
  9. Use the Barryvox myself. They are a good job with the B&F collar. My buddy has the Pieps with cracks all over it and hard resin sealant on one corner. Also has the old B&F chunky battery collar. Still works but someday he will realise the Barryvox is better! Ha.
  10. Yip. As mentioned a flawed outcome as working terriers organisations were not informed or included in the survey sample. Only shooting orgs contacted and included. The terriers numbers in the survey accounted for show dogs and a few pets belonging to gunmen. Be lucky if there was a worker amongst them. They even had a Russian terrier included? Pathetic and poor science. By not having a vet do it is making Terrierman ordinary decent criminals.... or as the Animal Welfare crowd would have us deemed barbaric cruel savages.
  11. Tail docking working dogs is the law of the land in all parts of Ireland and the uk and recently the ban in Scotland over turned after the government did their research although somewhat flawed. I agree with Jiggy. You just need to find a vet that will gladly do it. Of course you will now be paying for something we all have been doing for many a year without any issues. I don't know of any Terrierman who lost a pup from docking or any adverse harm during the life of the worker thereafter. The choice is down to each individual what they choose to do.....
  12. Quads are amazing for getting round earths, you wouldn't get round many holes on 28,000acres on foot in the uplands carrying everything you could possibly need, Have you ever hunted over here? That's the difference. 28,000 acres would be 2,800 farms over here with many many 100-500 acre farms half under bog or rough cover, with farm neighbours who detest each over some long running family land squabble and barbed wire, double ditches and hawthorn everywhere. You wouldn't get far on a quad in most places. Have to admit when over your way and travelled on them they are the business. Each to t
  13. How many days a week do you work your dogs during the season FD? Not having a go.... Not all of us have the luxury of owning their own business, being a professional Terrierman or fancy picking up the dole cheque every week, although the later isn't by choice for some. I work 5 days a week to pay the bills and provide for my family as like most parents only want the best for them. So working the dogs is confined to weekends, as much as possible over Christmas and the odd self prescribed sick day if possible. The dogs get their work and I do plenty of miles during the week to keep them fit as
  14. waterproof Sealskinz for me to corkman but don't let the missus tumble dry them ,not as water resistant after that :/ Yip, I'd agree with that.... but my missus got a hold of them and did exactly that and gave them too much time in the dryer and they got all screwed up. On the hunt for another pair but all the army lads have them bought up! A good sign when they are buying them!!
  15. Bridgedale are good but Sealskinz are the bees knees!
  16. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------IMO Dykos got it bang on page 4 of this thread. Also the breeding chart posted by PD3 is very informative and a little bit of history in which Mr Nuttal clearly has identified the breed of terrier he produced as a "Patterdale" back in 1975 which was bred out of various strains. This maybe one of the first times the name "Patterdale" was documented by one of the strains founders as we know them today. Be interesting to know what Breay & Buck & Westmoreland, and b fore them called their types
  17. Glyn. I agree, it would be interesting to get the full story. A lot of questions could be answered. If Mr Nuttall's written pedigree for Judy in 1975 is taken back through Mr Breay's line to 1920 then its hard to see where his Grandfathers Fell x Bull came in. Buck / Breay did line breed the Dog's sire / Dams Grandsire, but they kept going out to Hunt kennels for stud dogs. Coniston, East Kent, Bedale, Ulleswater, Cockermouth etc.... Up to the 1960's there is every type of terrier in the mix. White, Fell, Border, Brindle, and all of these crosses. Judy Pedigree Image -01.jp
  18. Have those tight shorts made you a bit argumentative mate ,doesn't suit you . Stop end. You are more than welcome to any pup or breeding that I have access too now and in the future! Should you want it. All that we ask down this way is to rear them right, work them right and don't "ever" sell them . All of which you fully understand! As like anyone else I move in various circles......some of these circles remain the same, some overlap and some change over the years, but one thing is constant - the working white dogs. Of course the Cork standards may not be up to the dizzy h
  19. Only met Mr Parks once. A decent man and one of the games characters. He is the type to give you the time of day and good for a chat about dogs and kindly answers any questions you may have. If I was to ever change from white dogs it's Parks red type I would fancy. I had a cracking pup directly off a good Parks dog called Fury about 20 or more years ago, but she and some of her littermates got Parvovirus which was doing the rounds back then and I never got to see if she would have made the grade. Fine lump of a dog on your left Glyn. Really like that type!
  20. I've done both over the years - in company and on my tod. Been hunting since primary school with local lads, then introduced to digging in the mid 80's along with hounds, Lurchers, etc. As kids in the early days if it had 4 legs and would hunt we would use it.... if it had 4 legs and ran or went to ground we would hunt it/ dig it. In the days when dogs would be walking around the neighbourhood estate we would whistle and all sorts would come running. Every sort of terrier cross to Irish setter x and even elkhound x mongrels. We would put a lead on them and head off for the day and enjoy the cr
  21. Wise words. A lot of terriermen could do with taking that post on board.
  22. He sounded double handy Liam. A decent worker and saved you cleaning the kennel too......
  23. Look up the Animal Welfare Act 2013 www.irishstatutebook.ie Note: Not all SPCA's have been granted Authorised officer status though and authority still lies with the Council.
