  1. a bit of a contradiction because at the first mating he hasnt proved he passes on his like so someone has to use the dog on its work only. The thread is about repeat matings Sherlock.By the second mating the first litter would be working .To use a stud exclusively over many bitches is my choice and certainly sets the seed for work .Confidence is whats needed as is the choice of a good strong dog .Once proven to throw his like ,the temptation is to work him less often so as to reduce the inevitable . Fd,let's say the chosen stud dog dies of old age or when working. Would you chose a dog from hi
  2. Some fine terriers there lads.best of luck with them.

  4. That's a good menu there Dodger. Ur dogs are lucky and they are well looked after. Every dogs diets and needs are different so it's up to the owner to feed them the best they can and keep them in best condition possible. Opinions vary but good to see men put plenty of effort in having their dogs on what diet they think is best.
  5. If running dogs are in off season or laid up due to injury imo if feeding dry feed use feed with low protein content.ie 16/17 percent and back on over 20 percent when working. I keep terriers on 17 percent all year round and they do very well. I know raw meat diet is best but its not practible for everyone.
  6. I agree with hpr. Good to see posts on here from country's where all different types of quarry are hunted. Aitor ur been very generous with ye open invite to hunt with you but be careful. Not all men are genuine. You could bring trouble on urself you don't need. As said before keep posting atb shovel
  7. Interesting clip. They were hardy women back in those days. Wonder how many people back then got weils disease handly all them rats!!
  8. A genuine digging lad won't part with a working terrier no matter what the price. I know lads that would sell you their wife first ☺ got a good terrier once from a man that used to be flushing big covers to guns and the terrier kept going to ground. Good luck in ur search.
  9. Id say ur mate taught he was loosing it when he could hear terriers sounding and no terrier of yers in yet☺ Good day and good post.
  10. Good and bad in all breeds. Most Terriers are only as good as the men that keep them! Ie Good terrier men, good terriers.
  11. Terrible news. Hopefully the young lad will have someone to guide him along through hardtimes ahead. My condolences to all the family's.
  12. Good start for the young dog. Imo a bit of a Chase for the terrier after Fox has bolted is an ideal thing to get a young terrier switched on. As others have said a nice handy dig in an earth next and not too much too soon. Best of luck with him.
  13. Fine pups.Look like they are well looked after.credit to you.
  14. Nice looking terriers. Look well bred and built for the job ?
  15. Good to see terriers working,no matter what the sport.don't know much about ratting but some terriers are obviously better at it than others. Men strive to have the best terrier for their chosen sport so as long as terriers are worked regardless of type or work it can be only a good thing.
  16. thats it kev shite news but it happens to the best of us mate it's the game were in just gutted for J,c that's who's dog it was he lost a good bitch a few weeks ago aswell mate, That's hard to take.losing one terrier is tough but losing a second terrier all within a few wks is fair sickening. Hopefully ye have enough stock to help ur buddy out with a terrier if he's stuck. Hope you have a speedy recovery Atb Shovel
  17. Don't know of any working Jagd terriers near me so I'll have to make do with the blacks lol Aitor, foxes 20 boar,Sun,beer and a siesta after lunch now that sounds like a hunters dream ☺
  18. I always leave my terrier off the lead when trying a place.often seen it pass a well used entrance and squeeze up a tight dead entrance and up to the quarry. As said it would be ideal if all terriers travelled empty earths to check them fully but imo some terriers just won't. Hopefully when I'm out and about I don't leave much game behind me but ud never know ☺ keedy sounds like a very useful terrier to have.bet she has proved a good few other terriers wrong!!
  19. I know what you're saying RH but I personally like to see a young terrier running a few empty spots.IMO the terrier that's most likely to waste time is one with heart that wont take no for an answer. If a young terrier is game and thinks every earth is holding it will spend a long time checking, checking and checking again thus wasting time. A young terrier with a good nose that knows some earths hold and some don't will quickly check and tell you what's what. Another thing I don't buy is checking earths by a quick sniff at the entrance and on you go. Unless it's a small place the only way t
