  1. There's a lot of differing opinions on bullet type and weight, but after trying several, I found that remington gr psp group well in my Howa, and everything they've hit has dropped on the spot, and the meat damage on Roe is acceptable providing shot placement is ok.
  2. This is what a Mink looks like And it's very good advice from chainman, keeping traps set can mean you catch the Mink before it has chance to do any damage, and boy can they cause some damage
  3. Good reply hunter, a simple entry of 'hearing protection' under the reason for requiring a sound moderator, should be ample.
  4. I was talking to him a couple of months ago, but that was the first time I'd seen him in years. I know quite a lot of folks from over that way too.
  5. Might still be ok for a spot of calling there. At the weekend I'm having a daytime look around a spot where I've not shot yet, to familiarise myself with the layout before I go at night. If all goes well you're more than welcome to come along. P.S. read your post about the funny things seen, and I bet I know that terrierman you're talking about!
  6. Seriously though, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the ranger once you get used to it
  7. Does this mean I'll be going on my own next week then if she finds out? As you could be grounded for a while lol

  9. For a simple but tasty casserole/stew, cook 2 rabbits with a large onion in either slow cooker or pressure cooker, when cooked remove meat from the bones and put it back in with the stock, add an oxo cube, carrots, swede, diced potatoes and any other veg of your choice, cook till the veg is done - beautiful! I did a casserole like this last week and also added some venison that was left over from sunday lunch .

  11. Kenny, Did you attach the ranger to a camcorder to record? haven't tried this yet....may be interesting to have ago if I can find out how! any advice welcome:thumbs: PS Love the second vid.....great kill that:gunsmilie: I've pm'd you with some details Dave.
  12. Roe. Sometimes they tear pieces of skin off on barbed wire, but that looks a bit large for that .
  13. The offers still open for you to have a look at my set up if you like, and as I said if I were buying now I'd probably get the cheaper version and go with pestcontrol121 and dave1372's advice. Here's a link to some video I recorded last year which shows the capability. This was on a perfect night and not all images are this good, depending on the darkness and the background. http://s968.photobucket.com/albums/ae169/gypsbell/?action=view&current=CUBS.mp4
  14. You should be able to release the tension from the spring, usually just by simply holding the main body of the bolt firmly in one hand and twisting the end. This allows the firing pin to move forward. But be careful not to twist the wrong way, or too far, or you'll be searching the floor for the inner components of the bolt (I'm speaking from experience here lol).
  15. Some of the cheaper scopes can be ok, but when you really notice their shortcomings is in low light conditions, and as the saying goes 'if you can't see it you can't hit it!'
  16. I don't think there's any hard and fast rule on this subject (as with all wildlife, they don't seem to read the text books lol). I personally prefer very dark nights with a breeze but not too much wind, but as long as it's not foggy, and you can see to spot the foxes, you'll find and get them during most conditions, though there's many other factors to take into account, as the other two lads have said. IMO it's more important getting to know the land and the habits of the foxes that are there, finding the favoured runs and hunting spots etc. I feel that there's no substitute for getting out,
  17. I did think about a lanyard (just as I was searching for the Fox! lol). Seriously though, I only use the plastic call when I'm calling over long ranges, then I tend to pop it back in my pocket when a Fox appears, and use the back of my hand or just my lips. I think I will be attaching one soon though 'cos I'd much rather be searching for more more live Foxes than spending my time looking for a dead one!
  18. Thanks all, I'm using remington 80gr psp. I find these perform really well in the Howa, on Fox and Roe. Kenny
  19. Even thougfh the weather conditions weren't ideal and it was the night before the full moon, I couldn't resist having a walk around some of the land I've recently got permission to control the Foxes on. After a couple of hours out I'd seen plenty of Badgers, Roe and Hares going about their business, but no Foxes, so I decided to see if I could call any out from the woodland. After only a couple of minutes calling, I picked up a Fox through the night vision monocular, right at the other end of the field. A couple more squeeks and it started to slowly make it's way towards me, zig zagging as it
  20. New rifle, nice shooting = 1 happy fella. Well done
