  1. A similar question was asked on here recently and the replies regarding range varied enormously. I stated that I've recently changed from a lead acid battery to a tiablo A10-G as I wanted to reduce the weight I was carrying, and I'm very happy with it. The range will vary depending on the scopes quality/magnification, but I can see foxes with the naked eye clearly out to at least 250 yards and eye shine to easily double that. I must stress though that I don't use the lamp to scan as the tight beam would make that method a real pain.
  2. I've since spoken about this to my rfd as l was placing an order with him and he said it would be pretty difficult getting a permission letter even stating paid stalks! I also spoke to the head keeper of one of the estates on the island and he said to me that he could not give me the letter either as he stated he did not have the authority and he doubted the owner would give me a permission letter either as the owner is a very private man. He was helpful in that he gave me 4 or 5 names to try to get in touch with but no contact number to phone unfortunately. On the plus side my rfd said t
  3. Do you mean you want to replace a rifle with one of the same calibre that you already possess Callum? if so then you simply apply for a 'one for one' variation, which is usually straightforward and in my experience comes through pretty quickly as all the relevant checks have already been done, and it's free. If you're after an extra rifle, even if it's of the same calibre, then it's a bit different but provided that you demonstrate a need for requiring it (and if it's a different calibre, that you have suitable land over which to use it) then you should still be ok. I would suggest just speak
  4. There used to be some near you - around Acklam hall but I'm not sure whether they're still there. I last saw 2 near Ormesby but that was over a year ago.
  5. I recently started using a Tiablo A10 with my .243, and as for it being limited to 150 yards - there are already a few Foxes that might argue the fact (if they were still around!) that it's effective out to much longer ranges!
  6. You can download calls from here: http://varmintal.com/coy5-20.htm Also you may be able to convert the files on your CD so that they'll play on the ucaller, by using the free download here: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html
  7. I used to have a 527 in 222, which I got second hand from a gunshop. After no more than about 30 shots the same thing as you describe happened, and there was no way I could figure out how to remove the bolt, so I took it back to the shop, where the assistant kept telling me that I'd caused the problem by feeding single rounds into the chamber by hand rather than using the bolt (which I hadn't). After a while they agreed to repair it for me without charge, but when I got it back after a couple of weeks the same thing happened again after only 3 shots. The same assistant again accused me of fee
  8. I've just got one, I'd been using a clulite la4 with double battery pack on a belt which served me very well for many years, but as nearly all my lamping is done walking and on my own I was after something even less bulky and lighter. Due to the weather I've only managed a couple of outings with it so far but I'm pretty pleased with it, the big Vixen in my recent post was accounted for using it. I've not used the momentary switch though, as it needs constant pressure to keep the light on, which isn't ideal if you need to shoot from different positions. The tight white beam is very differen
  9. He certainly is a dark Fox, and seen some action by the look of those teeth too! Well done, and a good read
  10. At the time I wished I could've weighed it, as she was big in size and weight, but all my shooting's done on foot so I've got to try and keep what I carry down to the essentials ( a small digital camera's something I want to sort out though as my mobile's crap especially in the dark).
  11. Cheers Lee, Keep in touch and we'll still have a look out sometime if you like. Kenny
  12. Cheers. I can't say I'm that keen of those conditions either but as I said, I really was starting to get withdrawal symptoms, and a successful outcome does seem to warm you up (though I've had plenty of failures too where I've gone home feeling cold, damp and miserable! lol).
  13. With all the fog we've been having over the past week or so I felt like I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms, so even though we were getting frequent heavy showers of sleet and freezing rain (which I'd been out in all day), I decided to try a spot close to home where a lot of Pheasants and Partridge had recently fallen prey to 'Charlie'. As soon as I scanned the first valley I could just make out a set of eyes in the distance on a bankside, even though I couldn't see an outline I was pretty certain it was a Fox, but not sure enough to risk a shot, so I started calling, and after about ha
  14. Yeh, and I remember him saying that he could get close to Deer because he had a couple of Pheasant feathers in his hat which made them think he was a pheasant not a person!!
  15. Wonder what would've happened to him in his homeland if he'd shown a similar form of disrespect for that countries 'fallen heroes' (dead terrorists)? I think he'd have been seperated from his head pretty quickly.
  16. Nice read again Dave . I've had no joy my last few outings, no shortage of Foxes around but they've either been too far away and show no interest, or they've been right on the skyline offering no safe shot. But at least I know they're about for later .
  17. Welcome, and hope you get better soon . P.S. Good advice from your Dad, good manners cost nowt but mean so much
  18. That's great news, you all must've been going through hell. I'm real pleased it turned out well .
  19. I saw a flock of about 20 on saturday afternoon, but I had no camera with me, and I've not seen them since
  20. Hanging's too quick for scum like that! And you're right, they'll never ever change
  21. I think you're entitled to your moment with a shot like that, well done!
