  1. i have no intension of gettin rid of them i have plenty of space time and energy to train them i know eventually i wil have a lot but i am not a one man band either i aint just some young kid whose read a thread and thought ooh lets try this i have thought about it and all set up not that its owt to do with you get a life u miserable git i have kept and bred ferrets for 15 years and just fancied a new challenge Why did you post asking for advice and then take the hump when people who are obviously more experienced than you offer their advice...
  2. Cheers Andy, Shes 7 now and showing no signs of slowing, She likes lamping and does well, But ferreting is her real game! Shes a collie whippet greyhound
  3. I would cut it down to 100yrds a piece at least, otherwise if it tangles you will throw it in the shed and never use it again! 200yrds is really hard to handle and very heavy especially if its a 6z
  4. Me and a friend of mine had a drive to some ground this morning that we tried last week, I had 2 kits born very early this year that I kept back and an older ferret to show them the ropes, Its hard going ferreting here as the warrens are very very big and tight together, there where times we had 200yrds of Long Net down and 20 or 30 purse nets and we where still missing rabbits that where bolting from the next sets! But thats the way the ground is and we just put up with it. We search hard for smaller warrens out on there own, and there are a few here and there, so we tried them as well in the
  5. Id say 75% would work ok, But no doubt somebody will disagree, If 75% is all thats in it, then use it, I always try and use 100%, But sometimes with old off cuts for stop nets and the like, It doesnt work out, but as long as theres some, hopefully the dog will get there before the bunny gets away
  6. They arent allowed to be shot now, But I was wondering has anyone tried them when people used to eat them?
  7. I was finding the odd rabbit I was eating was a bit tangy! I thought It was the bucks, So I began avoding them for cooking, But then a man near me showed me there scent glands and how to remove them, It does take away that strong flavour, But I still pick out a 1/2 or 3/4 female, much tastier.
  8. no-one asked for your opinion on pups mate if there not your cup of tea dont click on adverts for collie whippets Exactly, ..... :wankerzo4:
  9. Andy has said it all really
  10. A Blind set is ideal when you start doing it Tea Pot, Because you will usually have good results and that will keep you at it, The first sets I done were really easy to do and thats what kept me at it and learning more, Its very addictive!
  11. He wont have enough net for 6 poles 5 yards apart! But 5 would do, as Salmon said, Net Loft, Or Hazel....But when you start to use nets, you will buy more.....
  12. Dont stand on it either, in the dark, Because it can break, you can fall on the dog, the lamp battery will hit you hard on the face, and the barbs can catch your trousers and tear them, I speak from experience!
  13. I have put a 1/4 extra on the footline on a recent net, 100yrd net, 100yrd Top Line, 125yrd footline, Its for rougher, humpier mountain ground, And the extra foot line takes the contours as has been said, And even if there are no contours, I still like it better.
  14. Dave from the site invited me to his ground on friday night for a spot of Lamping, and Long Netting, I took my dog and Dave had his 2 rockets! It was a brilliant nights sport with a modest bag, But well worth the 150 mile drive. Daves dogs are brilliant and a credit to him, Watching the little black dog box those rabbits from the ditches was something else, and the other Dog caught rabbits I wouldnt even slip on they where so far out, He's definitely a long range missile! . We didnt score so well on the Long Netting, But our next night out should solve that Cheers Dave
  15. £16 for 10 Spun Nets? Are you sure there not nylon? That sounds too cheap! I did'nt say spun poly i said 10z and yes there nylon, i always thought spun poly was sold as "spun poly" not 10z spun poly, if this is right i stand to be corrected I thought you ment you bought 10z Spun Poly nets, No, Spun Poly doesnt come in different weights as far as I know It does come in different sizes, but not in Z sizes as the Z stands for the direction the twine is twisted in. Its got nothing to do with the way its twisted, It weight, A 4z net is lighter than a 6z and a 10z is hea

    WHY

I hate when someone puts up a few pictures of a days ferreting or there dog and people repeatedly quote the pictures and then write below, Nice Dog Mate, It takes the page half a day to load
  18. I dont see the big fuss, If you dont want one, then dont buy one, simple.

  20. There seems to be a split opinion on them, I have never seen one for myself or knew anyone that had one.
  21. Carpet burns from the summer.....Thats why theres so many young about now
  22. I wouldnt take anything if it was going to be wasted, the dogs get the liver and kidneys from the rabbits if I dont use them, myself, then the ferrets get the rabbit and the dogs get some rabbit bones back for chewing after the ferrets strip them
