  1. I have nets that are at least 15 years old, they make the new ones I bought from ebay look like carrier bags...My new ebay ones are 4oz and tangle too easy, I got new 6oz'ers and there a lot better, But my old nets are better than either of them, I noticed the other day the old ones have a thin piece of cord wrapped tight around the ring with the net tied over the top, the cord then runs off and is tied onto the net about one mesh down, I never saw this on any other purse net, But they never tangle, or go back through themselves & are a lot easier to sort out when getting a rabbit out, I w
  2. Its not that he doesnt want them wiped out, But he's not bothered that they are there one way or another, the permission was very hard to get so I cant do anything that will gve him any reason not to let me go there...A LOT of people would like to go there, But there not allowed because of having asked and got a yes, and then been caught digging, using dogs or something he doesnt allow I really need to get some pics up of the ground, Its crazy, I spent a few days driving round looking for rabbit areas when I started back at ferreting...when I saw the field it almost brought a tear to my ey
  3. You should take a day or two up here, keep everything you catch alive & release it at home!!
  4. I see some of them I miss in the nets going as far as I can see, and others going back three or four holes away, the biggest problem is no dogs, digging or shooting is allowed!! The land owner isnt out to get rid of the rabbits at all, and I had a job even getting permission! But I doubt he has walked as far through the ground as I have, there are actually large areas that have just caved in when I walked on them its so dug!!
  5. Some of the depths are crazy....I put a small jill down at ne stage and tracked her with the finder, 8,9,10,11,12,14, No signal....!!
  6. Im in Northern Ireland, I can just imagine 6 of you checking in with easyjet, ferrets boxes on the weight belt, dressd in cammo with lurchers
  7. It would be no problem at night, I just havent a clue about long netting....Im waiting on the art of Long netting book from amazon, Buts its up to 3 weeks before its delivered - How would I go about long netting it at night? I know you set the net between the rabbits and the holes, But on that ground its just all holes! Theres no particular area where the rabbits feed, they just go everywhere!
  8. The ground Im going to each weekend is out of control with rabbits, The entire 20/30 acres is literally one large warren, Its getting harder each weekend to get burrows that are detached from the rest, While I was out today, I chanced the edge of the main warren, disaster, My polecat dissapeared off the face of the earth, I luckily saw three rabbits bolting about 150yds up the field, I run up knowing that she was probably on their heels and luckily, the locator started beeping near, I managed to get her again, But If Im going to put any sort of a dent in these rabbits, I am going to have to t
  9. Yeah, we could have dug whatever he cornered, But we cant, Its the only permission I have and I want to try and hold onto it, we missed one or two from holes we didnt net, But other than that, the poley seemed to corner everything.... How long would you expect a ferret to stay down, average? FF
  10. The farmer only lets me in on the condition that theres no digging, shooting or dogs....We took he spade, but he was about fixing fencing so we couldnt dig
  11. Hope you all had a better day than I did, Just back from ground Ive taken 18 rabbits in two days from.....today, 0 - Young poley messing from the off, first set, the new locator confirmed she had cornered some, down 15/20 mins and then refusing to leave the entrance of the hole, running back down when I tried to lift her, Next hole, same again, another 45 mins, finally got her out, claws stuffed with fur, this went on all day, at times the locator would show her moving about, then she would stop 15/20 and not move....Nightmare day, not helped by not being allowed to dig on the ground. The othe
  12. Im heading out too, just picked up a locator & 2 collars tonight should help things move a bit quicker after all the waiting and bloody noses and fur stuffed claws last saturday!
  13. Ive been loking for them too, But cant find them, At least at £8 for 250!!
  14. Theres no myth about it, It is what me and the other fella said, A different term for albino
  15. That term would be used in Ireland to describe an Albino ferret, usually a jill
  16. I have been given a 50yd 6z Longnet, Its got the cord and all through, Can I just go ahead and add poles with grommets and a basket and Ive got a quickset? Or does this work dofferently?
  17. I dont like the way people assume that ferrets bite, they do if treated wrongly or feel threatened, as would any other animal....I have had lots of ferrets over the years and never been bitten, All the ferrets I have had where got young, so if there handled there is no problem
  18. I've just got back into ferreting after not have done any or kept ferrets for 15 years, I was 11 then & didnt even know locators existed, And didnt realise how much people used them even now, I still dont have one & probably wont get one either, the only permission I have is permission as long as I dont dig, so getting a locator is pointless because I cant dig anyway...I starved my ferrets last friday night thinking they would work better on saturday, But the young polecat was intent on killing, she killed in the first two warrens we done, but bolted a few as well, so I removed the liv
  19. The best advice I got for this was to put the back of your hand towards them and let them pick up your scent first, then pick them up....It works
  20. Maybe not too weird, Rabbit kidneys & liver, fried for 10 seconds....You have to try these...... I also have eaten snails, ostrich, kangaroo, squirrel, conger eel, razor fish, octopus,
  21.
