  1. Theres a rabbiting DVD on ebay, I bought it a while back...Its called rabbiting with Longnets or something like that, Its one of the best I have seen...Its a home made one, but narrated and some very good stuff with long nets, lurchers and terriers, well worth 2.99!
  2. They are still very much alive in Mullaghmore....I have caught a few there, last summer. As for eating them, I eat the odd one, and they are tasty, I cut them into goujons, batter and deep fry, very nice. Quite like monkfish
  3. That one is NOTHING compared to the one I caught a few nights after...But alas, I had no phone to get a picture. A man fishing near me got a few shots on a film camera and took my address to post them, but they never arrived!! The one in the picture was 22.5lb & the one I didnt get a shot of, tipped the scales at 44.6lb! He was a monster, with a temper to match! Sometimes they can be easy to land, it depends on where you catch them really, in round rocks and there a nuisance, if they get there tail or head round anything you havent a hope of getting them out! I have had a fe
  4. Dont buy rigs! Make your own, there always better quality and far cheaper too! I tie all my own and put them on Eva Rig Winders, very handy and dont tangle. A good book on rigs is "Rigs and Baits by Sea Angler magazine, Its on amazon for less than a tenner, shows you how to tie every rig you need. I caught this on a rig I made!
  5. Don't hold back boys,..fer fecks sake,..say what ya realy mean....
  6. I watched it...Trevor Sargent didnt do himself, or the Greens any favours whatsoever...I thought the speaker from RISE done a fantastic job and really got the point across, while Trevor was left making half hazard stupid comments about a school yard, And as the man from RISE said...It was ONE incident in 150 Years...If thats all the Greens have to hang onto in order to Ban Stag Hunting...Then its a pretty bad case. And was it just me...Or who was the presenter in favour of? It definitely wasnt the Greens as far as I could see!
  7. I almost wish at times my oldest bitch would pull up....But no, like a bull in a china shop!
  8. It should be working now.... We should all do what we can, enough is enough, North and South...

  10. The Green partys sole MLA has launched a public consultation in preparation for his introduction of a bill aiming to ban all hunting with dogs in Northern Ireland.... My link This is one amongst a series of Proposals on the Draft NI Wildlife & Natural Environment Bill, Latest indications are that the Minister is now inclined to bow to pressure from the anti side, and is likely to: (a) place the Irish Hare on the protected at all times Schedule 5 (if enacted, this would effectively end beagling & harrier hunts) , and ban all use of snares (placing gamekeepers & other land ma
  11. Freshly Burned toast....You will be surprised....You can do it there with a blow lamp
  12. I saw it too....The Hare population in the South has increased due to conservation work from coursing clubs.
  13. There is a whole lot of confusion on Hares in Northern Ireland........From what I believe, The Brown Hare was still fair Game...But the Irish Hare is banned until September... I know people who called and wrote to several people who work in these areas of law to get some sort of clarification on what the actual law was, and NOBODY really knew...

  17. I saw a dvd that was supposed to be the wrecking crew...It wasnt very good and all the foxes were taken with 2 dogs run together.
  18. Ah, that extra bit of canine intuition or clever training that puts the dog on another level . The dog that does'nt leave its post when it sees another dog go for a runner. The dog that recognises a badly netted bunny and siezes the moment .The dog that thumbs , guts and does a good deal with the local game-dealer for the rabbits ... All to be aspired to but it does'nt mean that anything less is'nt a ferreting dog . Absolutely
  19. A fistful of ferrets...The DVD, A black bitch called Tegan*...A first class ferreting dog...Watch how she holds the rabbit from the back of the Long Net everytime...And even goes to the opposite side of the net again when the rabbit goes over it... I believe true ferreting dogs are few and far between, any dog can ferret in my opinion, but true ferrreting dogs arent as common.
  20. I have since read it only works in the summer as the Hare has young close by...And the squeaking noise sounds like the young in distress...That would make sense as there was a young one close to her yesterday.
