Great Pics there, hope you take camera out more often the quality on them is top draw. Dog is looking very well, how old is she now?

3/4 Collie, 1/4 Greyhound Nose, brains, indestructible and pace enough for the job. Will be small enough too.

A collie cross will do you well, get half cross or 3/4 collie in it. Day time rabbits is as much about hunting them up as anything else. Give it time and let it learn its own way of going about it and bingo you will have a dynamite dog. Collies have a very strong hunting and stlaking instinct, they tend to think for themselves. Hancock has puupies that will make the grade, regardless of what you hear on here about him. It is more the way he goes about it. He has a red stud dog which is a reverse 3/4 bred which throws good pups. If not get a reverse 3/4 (3/4 collie 1/4 greyhou

Have you read the 70 odd pages of the thread in the archive?????????????????????

:11: @ 'LOCKE'.... It has been a PROVEN fact in both the modern lurcher and to some extent,.the terrier world,..that no matter how much a producer of working dogs is ridiculed,.castigated or shown to be less than realistic in the appraisal of his 'product',...there will ALWAYS be guys that are attracted to such things. The written word is a very powerful tool and can certainly influence folk into believing even the most outrageous claims.... Personally,.I have always tried to help out newcomers to the game, especialy when their dogs are not coming up to scratch or following the predicted p

Working a dog doesn't change it's genetics. I've seen plenty of dogs from working stock that haven't made the grade. Good bloodlines hold up, because of generations of testing, by not working one and breeding from it doesn't make the puppies second rate (unlike some of the educations on here).

The dog will turn out just fine if you put the work into it. How old was it when you got it??

Use good wheat straw, avois stuff that has been baled damp as it will have mold in. Avoid Barley and hay straw as they have seeds, awns etc that can cause all manner of mischief.

There are always lurchers about. The question you be what do you want the dog to do? Then choose the dog that will suit the task AND you. All the best S

Easy boys, thread started off quite interesting until it degenerated. PM each other if you are wanting to trade insults. Lamping comp isn't for everyone and that is fair enough, plus privacy ahould be respected.

What's the hardest quarry you have hunted?..
Sorley x replied to Kye's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Before the ban (obviously) In this part of the world, with a name for hares. Many a wannabe courser would turn up and run dogs (pairs or more) at hares through the end of autumn and into winter. Often following in a 4x4 to watch proceedings, quickly killing off the old and the weak before heading back to the towns to post exploits of forums :11: By the end of the winter, any hares left would be as jumpy as a virgin at a prom. They would usually slope off at the first sign of man, dog or vehicle. Making for hedges, woods and roads. To get within 70 yards of one of these on foot -
Please can we talk about somethinge other than just slinging insults back and forth about him. If you are new to the game, you can go to him and get a pup and know the breeding. When you go there you can see he is a breeder and nothing more. If you don't like it DON'T buy one. HOW HARD CAN IT BE. The original question was more about what the cross was suitable for not lets mouth off about so and so. Some people like him Some people don't END OF STORY

To be honest, if this is your dogs first full season then I would just concentrate on that. Think about a second dog next year. I know it is darned tempting to go ahead and get a second dog but your first one should be the priority. You seem to be doing the right things in bringing it on slowly. He will be with you for a good few years so imagine how gutted you will be if you rush it now and he's never the dog he could be. This first season is really important for the both of you. Regardless of what others will say don't dilute your efforts with a second dog before you've got this

Welcome to the site. Boy oh Boy have you opened up a can of worms..... Be prepared to hear a lot of bad things said about the man. The important thing to remember that it is you how will make that dog, the breeding is a big factor but you will have a star dog if you put the time in. Hancock, breeds puppies that is what he does. So be aware of that, it means that his puppies don't get as much socialisation as puppies brought up by a family or occasional breeder. The longterm effects of this are disputable if you get your puupy at 8 weeks. (This paragragh will get shouted down

Totally agree people far to blase about typing things on here. remember it is a PUBLIC forum.

Hybrid vigour is from two strains or breeds crossing together F1 hybrid, the frist cross. After that it diminishes.

Thanks Sorley I want to use her as a ferreting dog ,do you think This cross will end up quick enough to catch the bunnies out in the open? I don't think you will have any problems with the pup. A lots of traits like speed, size etc are composed of lots of genes and have almost a continious variation. It is not like say coat colour which is much simplier. I think you will have a cracking pup and the most important factor is the trainer, breeding helps but good dogs are the result of someone putting the time in. Any chance of a couple of pics? How old is the pup? Happ

Technically it is but in reality the pups couldmlook like anything from a beddy to a whippet. They won't though because the genetics of it ain't that simple and a lot of the traits need multiple genes to show themselves. In theory you could look at it this way (sorry in advance this may sound a bit like school): Take 100 red marbles and 100 Blue marbles RANDOMLY take 50 from each pile to form the 1st cross. You will have 50 blue and 50 red regardless of random process. OK If you now have two piles of 50/50 Blue/Red and you took 50 randomly ffrom each to get the cr
