  1. Absolutely cracking action shots there. Great bit of permission and a foot in the door.
  2. Gret pics, relly good to see storm coming on so well.
  3. Hopefully you will now be noticing each of the crosses has their own champions. Personally, I opt for collie x's as a rule (although i am very fussy about the actual collie is used). BUT MY advice to you would be to have a look at differing crosses for yourself and see which cross you think you can get on with best. There are one or two people on here odr t'other site that have used pretty much all crosses, find them and see what they say. The most important factor in having a really good lurcher is actually you. You will if you put the time in have a great dog be it col
  4. Personally and this is only mine, I would opt for a bitch 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie. will tackle most things and will be a good dog for a newbie to take on. !/2 collie not a starters dog. what is the ground like that you will be hunting over???
  5. This probably is a bit late in the day consiodering this is just degenerating into a keyboard slagging match. One which, entertaining as it may be is a side issue. My little point was that has anyone condidered that if you are down on the down in wiltsjire you are gonna have a shorter night than if you are running your dog up in the northern reaches of scotland? May not count for much but an extra couple of hours or so is gonna help you get more bunnies in the bag.
  6. Unfortunately not. Hadn't considered it but went up a few evenings ago and had a look. Plus in truth I am looking about 3/4 fields to target. Mind you on one of them - I can't really make out which way the bulk of rabbts are coming from!! Was going to have a look at those scottish drop nets at the CLA but that plan was nicely scuppered by the good old english weather. Will be up at the Midlands and have a look there, if like what i see the cheque book is in back pocket. Mind you the bank manger will spit his tea out if he sees that one. ah well them bunnies is bugging me - not mentio
  7. Fantastic pics there, keep em comin. Personally I would say that three hours a say is not needed. He is still really a pup and shouldn't be expected to do much for another six months or so. Leet his frame develop naturally, plenty of play etc etc then when he is older you can push him a bit. You will notice that he will still be growing upwards/ when that stops he will bulk out muscle wise then you can start conditioning. This is only my thoughts (and each dog is different) Storm will be with you for a long so be patient and enjoy his puppyhood. Either way it certainly is
  8. Ha ha, a little difference in views always brings out the truest qual;ities in people. like most of us say horses for courses.
  9. From small acorns and all that business. Well done on the permission, respect the land as if it were your own and play your cards right and that bit of perrmission will soon be expanding. Good luck and Happy Hunting. :clapping:
  10. horses for courses. Make the most of what you have access to but try to have a bit of respect for the game too.
  11. Fingers crossed that the foot n mouth is just an isolated incident, otherwise going to a very long autumn for us with dogs
  12. Well my old lamp has finally been laid to rest, god bless its illuminatig soul . So I am laying my grubby little hands on a replacement and feck me there are some bright lights out there . I've always prefered a light around the 300,000 candle power but this is considered a torch nowadays . Anyways got me thinking as to what you honourable and frankly nots so honourable  (none of us wanted that ban did we) folks use. Interested to hear your thoughts too on your choices.
  13. scratch my chicken idea that second shot has got me doubting. I'd guess pet bunny.
  14. Wrong colour legs for a coot or moorhen, plus looks like there is a slight partridge colouration to feathers. I would guess a type of chicken. maybe something like this charcater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Midnight1101.jpg Hopefully by now said poultry owner has taken suitable action
  15. Only ever shot from a car be it landy or subaru. Wasn't fussed which really though the subaru was better suited for it IMO Then only on stubble or tracks. Trouble is some of the selfish greedy F#####s that came up this way drove all over the newly sopwn and youung crops. The result of this is that if you have a running dog and a motor and you so much as give a field a glance then the place is swarming with farmers, keepers and the boys in blue. Ruined it for one and all.
  16. dont want it to look big just wondering why its sides were filling out and no where else if you read it propperly You say a pup but how old exactly??
  17. Well Given I've never seen a dog take 6 out of 6 daytime hares round our way I would sure as hell take that dog. I would take the priceless beast out and watch it with a sense awe (maybe put some money down too). Then I would sell the dog straight away to the highest bidder. Because sure as the sun rises I would be down one dog by morning, given the thieving nature of some folks. Then happy in the knowledge of seeing such a creature I would settle back to rabbits and nothing else.
  18. Hey thank you for your help I am emailing the details ove so far and see what response I get. THANK YOU
  19. Its a no-brainer IN THE BAG would you win a fishing competition with an empty keep net but swearing you put hundreds of fish in??? (it would be a no by the way)
  20. In california, though where exactly I am not entirely sure.
  21. hello I figure this is a good place to get this solved. A relative of mine from states was over here and saw me lurcher and thought he was a really lovely dog So his dog back home is getting on and so he would like a lurcher to replace his. He did a bit of scratching around but to no real joy, so asked me if I knew of how he could get hold of one. Well I do know that I can get one exported from here at expense but then realised what a great thing THL is. So posting this to see if anyone out there can help. In an ideal world he'd be looking for something with collie are pl
  22. Snaring had crossee my mind, but the fence line is - in daylight just 50/60 yards from gardens and hpuses all overlook it. Plus there is an annoying yorkie that comes running out across the field to hunt. Snaring would just be asking for a whole heap of trouble. I see Brinded's nets aren't cheap
  23. Good question, be interested to know.
  24. Problem is field is not that big and at night has house lights one side and the lights from park n ride the otherside. Damned difficult to do any sneaking at all. I could hold out for a real pea-souper of a fog i guess. But if I am going to buy some nets figure may as well go the extra bit and get some drop nets.
