  1. Hello Does anyone know of anymore lurchers with dartmoor colli in them, or who breeds them. I am thinking of the yellow-eyed collies. I know hancock had one for a bit sometime ago but never continued with it. Just keen to hear what folks on hear know or think about the cross. I remember seeing a couple of striking yellow-eyed lurchers about, very distinctive and smart  with it. cheers
  2. all the best with that one. how old is it? happy hunting
  3. They are some stunning looking pups, they will be very classy lookers when they get older.
  4. I've not come across one working buut I have heard good things about these dogs. There are a couple of people on here who have them. Gawd I hope this doesn't become another thread with a sseries of rants :realmad: Let the dogs speak for themselves (in a manner of speaking :ok: )
  5. Cheers, I have just become a memember. I remember that they did these field trials where the dogs had to qualify first through obedience tests and the like, before going out into the field. All in all i thought it was a great idea. After all other breeds have various working tests, why shouldn't we. However they just seem to have vanished. thanks
  6. Is anyone out there a member of NLRC? Also does anyone know what happened to the field trials they used to run? cheers?
  7. I've been lucky enough to spend a 3 years working in hot climates with alot of animals, domesticated and wild. Once the temp gets over 25C you should stop anything that will cause them stress, this includes strenuous exercise. Over 25C and the risks are just too high. If in doubt don't do it, your dog is too valuable. Just limit exercise to early mornings. There are people out there who don't deserve the loyalty dogs give. :realmad: :realmad: :realmad: S
  8. nice looking dog, do you know which dog he is by??
  9. Mate of mine is looking for a whippet X Terrier BUT he isn't after a beddi cross. Ideally a JRT, Patterdale or Lakeland cross. Anyone know who might have some of these coming up?
  10. Useful looking dog that , first cross? How old is the fella?
  11. After earwigging a conversation the other day from two guys who both keep dogs for shooting over. They were arguing over the various ways in which to teach a puppy to retrieve. They were also arguing over the best age for it too. it was all getting quite heated:black eye:. I know of both of em and they both have dogs that work well in the field. I got thinking about how lurcher folks  approach the subject.... Sooooo I would be interested, if no one else is, to get your thoughts on the subject. cheers
  12. Sorry mate , you are spot on about daft banter. If I am honest then i am yet to see a dog take more than 3 day time hares that have been given fair law. I know of dogs that have taken more that haven't worried about a fair slip. I know it is not a clear answer but there is a difference between the two. Def a good post. sorry may not be the answer you are looking for. I do think it matters what part of the world you are in, round here it is wide open large fields. The hares (before ban, obviously) were coursed relentlessly by all and sundry. As aresult the ones that were left
  13. I live SLAP BANG in hare country, an area famous for hares . I am lucky if i see 30 different hares in a month let alone in a night. If i see five in a day then it is a good day
  14. Lamped hares are easy prey, any half decent dog will take em. Day time hares given a fair slip is what was the ultimate test for a hare dog. A pot filler well that would be a different matter.
  15. Good news, fingers crossed on a speedy recover. all the best
  16. No harm in letting the dog take a few, you won't get them all. What has happened in your area is that the myxy has mutated into a new strain, which is hitting the rabbits pretty hard. In is unlikely that it they will die from it. The rabbits need to live with it so they can develop immunity to that strain, once they do they will flourish until of course the myxy mutates again. Bit of a cat and mouse game for rabbits and myxy. hope this helps.
  17. PLEASE don't tell me what you think of the man or his ways. I am only interested to find out if anyone knows anything about his strain that is still working and what they work like. cheers
  18. That is a lovely looking dog? Do you know which stud dog it is by? i own a reverse three quarter fell collie a quarter greyhound bred bitchby a good friend of mine typp ratcher.she stands at 20.5 inches tall, and is a excellent day and night dog with bags of stamina ive had forty hares with her which rubbishes the theory that they are to slow to catch hares.just had a litter of pups with this bitch to a first cross typp bred dog unfortunately all six pups are spoken for,but the sister of mine is in pup to a greyhound which typp owns, also there is another litter in the pipeline which is the
  19. That is a lovely looking dog? Do you know which stud dog it is by? isnt it tweedledum? oh no... dont ask him that...he owns more collie crosses then hancock I know she gorgeous. Shes sired by Tweedle Dee. have you had other collie crosses? if so how does she compare? Yes i have a 3/4 cross and a 1/2 cross, both from hancock also. They all have their uses and i love them all. The 1/2 and 3/4 cross are used mainly for the foxes and deer, the 3/4 cross is best one for hares. The 3/8 5/8 is fast, clever and ideal size the only quarry she won

  22. Type rattcher and David hancock First cross or a 3/8 5/8.a 3/4 bred if you fancy taking the bigger bunnys I was thinking, a 3/8. I have heard that 3/4 aren't agile enough to be really good at your standard bunny, is this so? That is a nice looking dog. I hear mixed things about Hancock - I think it is the trainer that turns the dog into a gem or clod.
  23. Hello all, wondering if anyone can help me? I am looking to get a collie cross for, ferreting, lamping and bushing. What cross would you recommend and who's a good breeder?
