Five eh,..well, we all know who to come to for a loan...?

We mostly feed the raw flesh, chicken carcass, and polo pony,..etc,...so of late, we have found it best to avoid the wasps and offer up the meat, after dark. Hornets fly at night, but the wasps are usually tucked up in bed, making the ribs and bones far safer for the lurchers.?

? Well, this debate is all getting a tad serious for me,...and all's I would say is that...Darn Sarf,.we don't have many areas where rabbits sit out to be hunted up, by a lurcher dog. Facts are, it's not complicated really, it is just a geographical truism..... I've hunted over much of the UK and can say, with some certainty, that a genuine working style lurcher can usually adapt to any given location,.as can his owner.?

That sure is one cracking looking pup...

That's just how ya want em,...wham bam, thank ya, Mam...?

That area looks prime for rabbiting fun...?

Most herding dog /running dog composites are variable,..both physically and mentally,...they don't suit everyone... Nothing wrong with that... I am a weak and feeble, quiet, inoffensive wee fecker, who would not say boo to a goose...? I kinda, go with the flow and don't get angry with a lurcher,..so my temperament probably suits a dog that is on the same wavelength.. Over the years I have schooled plenty of sheepdog/cattle dog types, Borders, Beardies and farm dogs of that ilk,...I don't have a problem with them. However, as my Father and Grandfather both taught me,..

That is a sad old tale fellah... We all learn from our mistakes,..its part of life... My advice to you would be, take a deep breath, get your enthusiasm back on track, then,..get back on the trail for a good honest pup... They are definitely out there, alongside a multitude of good honest breeders... Keep at it, all the best, Phil.?

Raw green tripe,..brilliant inclusion in the diet of any working dog...

Superb animal husbandry..... Hopefully, we will have a long dry Summer, the weather lasting well into the Autumn,... and then,..if the myxy stays away,...we will have a good rabbit season. These fine young preditors will surely provide their new owners with some epic hunting,... I can't wait...?

Hi,.yes I liked Jake as a pup,..he was ultra friendly and seemed to have inherited all the tractable qualities from his Border Collie ancestry (this does not necessarily occur when using herding blood)...some are bright, others not so ... I don't keep males in my yard, so I sent him up to North Wiltshire to an old pal, who just needed a robust type of cur, for a bit of mouching. I have never been out with the dog, .hopefully, he has provided some fun for his owner... His sister, Swifty is a handy wee rabbiter though...?

Lean and Mean,...just like their owner...?

It is good to listen to everyone's opinions,..that is how we learn.. With a rabbiting dog, I like to watch a potential Stud at his work, several times,...I am looking for a dog that will offer something different/better, than my own animal. If a dog is acting in the manner that suits me, I will use him across a suitable bitch,... It is difficult to gauge exactly, how a young dog might act, after six or seven years rabbiting,..anything could happen..there are no guarantees... Catching rabbits used to be my occupation, so I reckon to know what I need,...it ain't rocket scien

Personally,...when choosing a performance type stud dog,..a beast that is required to pass on, specialist attributes,?...I would like to know just who is coming to the party. However, for a roustabout rabbiting dog, I would not hesitate in using an obvious 'hunter, seeker, finder and catcher',..at an early age...?

Hi,..can't locate any first cross images at the moment,...but these Collie infused youngsters are fairly typical of lurchers that are a mix of Whippet, greyhound, and herder. Banjo Jake.

COLLIE X GREYHOUNDS...ENDANGERED SPECIES...
Phil Lloyd replied to japs eye's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
?Beardies and their ilk,...are wonderful working dogs,...but, in my opinion,..if you fancy a raggle-taggle collie type, it pays to secure the services of a strong working type. Such animals might be found on various holdings,..they are frequently not pure pedigree, .some are more akin to the old style concept of a Drover's dog, ..some look really shabby, nondescript critters,.nevertheless,..you have the luxury of seeing them at their work... Facts are,..they are usually kept for a reason...? -
Back in the day,... I only saw one route for a working dog that was unsuitable for the task, for which it was bred,..and I acted accordingly,... However,...in later years, I have made it my goal to seek out suitable pet /companion homes for these poor unfortunates that,...through no fault of their own, just could not cut the mustard. In doing so, you have to vet the future homes extremely carefully,...no point in jumping out of the fire into the frying pan, kinda thing..plus, if there is an obvious unsolvable mental or physical problem with a jukel, it is cruel to pass that issue onto an

Unfortunately,.this is not a rare situation...? Some folk thinks they need a dog around the place,.whereas in fact,...they don't have the time or the savvy to get the best out of a canine pal... My advice to you,...and you obviously do have a heart,...is to keep on, keeping on,...badger them at every opportunity,..be like a dripping tap....constant...? Personally, I much prefer to see a dog pegged out on a good sensible chain with a box to get into out of the weather,..rather than locked away in solitary. If you can educate these people, then all well and good,.if you canno
