  2. Goodonya Mike,..there is some rough weather coming....
  3. Nightwalker said,.."I have seen all UK species of deer taken by dogs and it's worth bearing in mind that many Southern fallow deer are as big as northern reds. Living is much easier for red deer in the midlands and the south and red deer down south generally are much much larger, heavier and stronger and take an awful lot more stopping than those living on the open hills up North"... Spot on there....
  4. There is no such thing as a bad curry,...

  10. Yes.. I've a mind to breed some good ole' lurchers... Admittedly,..Time is flashing by,.but I just might make it,.. All the best,.CHALKWARREN...
  11. A fairly concise and erudite reply there LOCKE That being said,...it IS difficult for lads who desire a Collie lurcher to find a litter.. Its often a case of being in the know and hearing about a litter of pups before they are gone. Commercial breeders of dogs have always catered for guys who don't get the nod,..this is how they make their money. Its a situation that has proved satisfactory for decades, and I doubt very much if it will ever change. What has absolutely ASTOUNDED me is,...the sheer amount of puppies that have been purchased from such establishments over the last couple of de
  12. Very instructional and informative post Lee,.many thanks for the info,..I'm a 'born again' barfa :11: All the best,..CHALKWARREN...
  13. Its a terrible thing to be scared,...I've been there myself on several occasions However,..for an animal that CANNOT reason or work out what the feck is going on,.it must be torture In my experience,.this situation generally gets worse as the animal gets older... Trying to make a load of noises and desensitize the critter to loud bangs and crashes works ok with young dogs, but once an adult critter gets the fear in his head, it rarely helps matters,..just freaks the fecker out even more. I used to have a handy sort of whippet x kelpie bitch. She was very good at the ferreting game, but ha
  14. :11: Don't think there is an 'earner' in doing vids and Dvds anymore mate,... Their life span is in mere hours at best,...They are copied and sold off fairly sharpish... I think the way forward (££££) must be in the written word....
  15. Its no consolation Dodger,.but,.I'm pleased to see and hear so many genuine words from lurcher enthusiast regarding your loss. Such an action gives me hope for the future of lurcher work... Many of us have lost running dogs,..but very few have been able to share our grief with others. I've lost a LOT of lurcher dogs...It happens. Only a post mortem will reveal the truth regarding your pal's demise,..personally,.I'd let it lie.. I'm no terrier man (far too soft),.but I've been privileged to know some of the legendary characters in that dangerous world,.and to a man they all tell me that whe
  16. His first book is all about his own eperiences. I grant you the second one is an amalgamation of other peoples tales with his own, but its still bloody good reading, and photos, and miles better than Plummer I ain't read a hunting book in a long time,.maybe I should... I remember 'proof reading' a few of Plummer's manuscripts years ago.. He used to write in a strange type of script,.almost italics, and it was extremely difficult to read his words. The photography today is streets ahead of the early times. With modern digital cameras it would seem to be far easier to obtain decent
  17. The Fenn Mk 6 was designed to catch rabbits in their burrows in the UK,.the US ConyBear/Bodygripper was not They are both versitile tools,.but cannot be compared...Different strokes,etc,.. :11:
  18. That would have to be one unlucky lurcher,...my condolences to your mate.... Used to run a team of seven dogs,..most nights of the week,..two weeks on and two weeks off,...some wore collars and some worked free,...never experienced any snags or hitches from the collar wearers It COULD happen,..the choice is with the owner....
