  1. The ferrets getting the work is more important than having a load of reserves mate, you know the score! ;)
  2. If i had space Tomo i would have loved to have taken the two smaller hobs as next year i can see these two smaller albino's i have running out of steam. As it stands i have two big experienced poley hobs getting no work at present. (More for the quickfire no nets on the shallow upland warrens.). Also a litter of 4 yet to try, albino's, 3 jills and 1 hob. Just out of a matter of interest, what have you kept back this year feller?
  3. Will they dig themselves out and retrieve the rabbit Tomo old boy? If so i prepared to travel!
  4. Just wanted his final bit of peace and quiet, hope i go in my sleep in a hammock after a night with the girls! ATB Feller.
  5. Must admit, looks a grand steady looking bitch Vin, what sort of height and age is she? (also is she still complete?) Good day by the way, love to go out on my own, its just so much more laid back.
  6. Sensible approach to hunting FV. I hate it half way through a report and then the laptop crashes, yoiu never write it up proper the second time round!
  7. my old feller has put the plastic tent pegs on most of our nets, I hate them, they are way too long in my opinion, and if the bloody hook is left on them, they tangle up for the fun of it! They do make seeing a net easier though if its a green colour, and they do the job well.
  8. We've bolted as many as three rabbits from a warren that a feral was living in. They will move back in sharpish around this time of the year, they seem to pushing each other out of warrens at this time as they are getting mature, you will see the second mass move at the end of Jan as they start pairing up ready for breeding, they will be in an emptied warren in days.
  9. The worst ones are the rushes for going up your nose when youbare digging, they seem to get miles up there before they hit something sensitive, then your eyes are pouring. (Not crying like a girl. not gay or owt!)
  10. Bloody slopes, been on them all season so far, just trying to find a flat spot to put the ferret box down has to be carefully picked! Good work, good bag.
  11. You need to post more often sore bollocks! Nice read again, nice looking dogs and a good bag. I'd get myself into trouble on those deep warrens! Keep the reports coming Sirius, a pleasure to read.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys, he goes under the knife tomorrow after the rest of the weekend under sedation. Full recovery is a no no, a dog with issues and a sort of life is on the cards. We'll see what happens to the 'Terminator'. Knowing the dog I would not bet against him working to some degree again in the future. desperate bloody dog.
  13. PJ what you have done has and will be done for years to come. Although not PC in todays society, you may have prevented hundreds of animals having a troubled life in the future. Just dont think anybody but yourself needs to know about it thats all bud.
  14. They really need to go on a diet, the biggest was 4lb 10 oz, at least 16 of them were 4lb ers, smallest 3 lb 7oz (Skinny c**t!)
  15. Hi PJ. Jed and his brother is 25 inch, his father was 25 inch. They are not large dogs, but not little either. As you well know, the land we hunt can change over the space of a few 100 yrds. Its not down to the size of the dog feller, its down to the brain of the dog. I dont know it all mate, but know a good bit about our sort of ground, and takes a dog with a bit of size and build to see the day and season and numbers out. Your little bitch will be fine, she seems to have all i want in a working/marking dog, and catches a few as well! A dog for life. The build on Jed and Robbie does not s
  16. Right aside of todays disasters, it gave me the chance to get a few rabbits of todays bag on the scales before gutting. I had my suspicions of late whilst buckling under the weight that we had been hitting some biggies, and the jills probably agree, The last couple of weeks i've had to step it up and use my smaller hobs in the place of the jills to get things moving, a little more muscle has helped, but feel today that even these little hobs are finding the job a challenge. Tonight I can understand why, heres a few photos, they are genuine, and not bullshit.
  17. Hi guys, ventured out again today, same as usual, me the old feller, the two runners Jed and Robbie, and the same two 5 yr old albino hobs as last week, Billy Bob and his brother hitting the slopes. One of us came off the slopes today never to be the same. Started off well, dogs marking under an old tin sheet at the side of an old barn saw them get one, before I'd even got the ferrets collared up. By the time I got there, one of the dogs had returned to the same tin sheet and marked it up again. Ferret entered saw a bolter that ended up in the barn to safety, but one rabbit within 30 s
  18. I'd probably say the lack of rabbits around until now was somebody ferreting them in the middle of summer.and the fact there are a few now is they have moved back into the warrens from surrounding areas. My memory is also is pretty bad, but i clearly remember someone on here posting reports slap bang in the middle of summer about ferreting somewhere, and getting pom poms, and milky does. Respect for the rabbit goes a long way in the end.
  19. Rarely works like that Cameron lad, if you're lucky someone will take you out. Get out asking in person feller, only way.
