  1. I'm going to collar a big buck rabbit next, see whether i can get more boting than with my ferrets!
  2. Is it only myself that thinks a rabbit has clocked a few nets on the entrances and turned back resulting in them finding a hole without a net? I watch year in year out as rabbits pop there head out touching the net to go back down, (Usually to find some fangs not far behind.) Bolters always seem to find the sneaky holes on the fringes though. I reckon rabbits think twice about bolting sometimes when they see a net, think the fine gauge nets help in these situations.
  3. Happens a lot before a ferret is entered, those rabbits are always going to bolt.
  4. Will depend on the ground and warrens. This season i have mainly used one at a time, and they clear a warren, will take a while longer, but the end result is the same, but a little more controlled. Get on some deep warrens with wide open tubes like some of the southern lads hit and it certainly looks like a team helps, saving the ferret the runaround.
  5. Good to see you lads out again, its amazing how quick a stoat will get your bag away, they will even be back in minutes when you have chased them off the cheeky little buggers. Sounds like some digging is on the cards with those hobs, at least you only dig one hole with the big fellers. Nice read chaps.
  6. Are they mounted on a trolley already? Looks comfortable for them, could just park it up overnight in the garage when you get back and they'd be happy!
  7. Mine get the large softish bone stuck at the back of there jaws from time to time, makes you wonder if they would ever shift without intervention, usually dislodge it with the inside of my thumb with my hand clamped around the back of there head, its amazing how angry they can seem even when you are helping them!
  8. Late start, no food as all the shops are closed, early finish saw me and the old feller, Robbie and two of this years kits turn over 20. Robbie was class, but had to work for most of the bag, the kits did well again, even after Robbie had hold of one of them by accident. Windy and cold, but a decent day with only a few digs. That was shorter than usual!
  9. she's up the duff brimmer, we lined her with my dads 10 year old dog, as he's wanting another to replace his, due new years eve is all goes to plan Thought she had been taken off you for spoiling a good gun dog, like i did with my bosses 20 yrs ago, when it was getting good at rabbiting!
  10. Must be 2.3kg Sounds like you had a great day out.
  11. Charlie where is the lab feller?
  12. Its good to hear there are still places that exist like this, but on the other hand sad to hear that within a year or two, competition for rabbits has seen the place hammered, with probs more folk aware of it. I am glad to have read this though, but now makes me feel that the days of the rabbit is numbered. Even that far away the troops get organised, such is the pulling power of the bag.
  13. How old was the ferret Kev, when they get to a fair age they seem to just wane away like that, nothing short of a miracle can help them then.
  14. Like two days Joe! Only buggering about, ATB mate.
  15. Mind you CJ, my bulldog rabbiting spade is like a teaspoon, rubbish on any serious digs, so i sometimes use a teaspoon as well! Merry xmas Joe.
  16. Feck me Blocket, you dint need to put a piccie of my house up! That must be great for the fezzers, but it is bonkers in reality.
  17. By the way, whats wrong with your face?
  18. Thats the ground PJ, and thats what the dog has to do. No kid gloves up there feller, its basically natural selection up there. A clever dog will just hold back enough to keep itself out of serious trouble, you know what happens with a desperate dog. Give the dog the choice, i dont think it would turn the chance down, even with the risk of a bad un
  19. Crikey CJ, what did you dig it with, a teaspoon? Was expecting to see a fair old pile, not something i'd probs do half a dozen of in day! Fair play though, doing the right thing back in 87 cannot fault that mate.
  20. I also enjoyed reading the reports of some phenominal work. No dog is going to hit those totals without getting out a bit. Now get out and bloody ferret the place!
  21. I.m sure like a lot of dogs, given the work and opportunity, any dog stands a good chance. I read a lot of folk slagging the Hancocks, probably most have never seen one work, including myself, but they at least are follwing a make up that is built for the job, think its the stigma that is attached to them now, and cannot see it ever going away. Most dogs are not born doing it they are made.(Although a few are). Sure there are better and worse dogs out there than a Hancock. Oh we have had collie grey lurcher crosses for a good few generations now, they are cracking rabbit dogs that can see a f
  22. Good work and bag lads, well deserved. Tidy looking dogs that are obviously getting the graft as well. Just reading the make up of your dog Jack, and wouldn't have thought there was any bull under that coat at a glance, is it something you chose in the make up of the dog, or is it just the make up of breeding successful dogs down the line? (Dont think many lurchers bred down a few generations nowadays have no bull in them!). Keep up the sterling work!
  23. Nothing short of awesome. And i like to bet a few days that wont be repeated for many years to come on the bounce.
  24. I'm asking a genuine question here, is the brine a problem for the ferrets something i have overlooked?
