  1. Brimmer and vin, she is far from fat, she is probably too lean compared to her prime weight i have seen her bofore, ideally i would like her to put weight on, she is a bit frail and thin for my liking, but i think this is down to 2 fat hungry ferrets that were in the hutch, but as these were non workers, they are currently under the sod as they were risking the welfare of my best working jills, which is just not on. i have no real feeding regime for them, i put food in about 6pm and the day they eat it all, that night i will put more food in, depending on how big the carcass is, rabbit, pigeon
  2. Christmas comes early CJ. nice ending! You need to get a mule of a lad signed up to do the digging for you feller, i know my old feller at 73 cannot dig anything now.
  3. Nice post and pics, (In fact they tell the story in themselves!). I know i,ve spent a lot of time of late setting purse nets instead of the longnet, think the only advantage of the purse nets is any skippers are caught before they get a look up top and drop back down and then dont move. But i think the close contact on the warren of setting purse nets can probs make more rabbits stick than would do with a longnet. Who knows!
  4. As already said.as soon as possible, and keep on top of them.
  5. Ey up feller, I dont know you or your animals, but I,ve known many animals in the past. Now dont jump on me THL, or yourself PJ, but just try knocking the grub down a little feller. Not to starve any animal at all, but an animal with more than enough will lack the same fire. Any animal with more in its gut than it needs will not give the same as one with a half empty barrel. A wild animal will only only hunt when hungry, not for the fun of it. But let my say this in the strongest possible way, hungry and not starving. Getting that balance is easy to achieve if you handle an animal daily.
  6. Time and exposure to the ferrets will help, and also you laying the law down. My old russell was 18 months before he met the ferrets, he's a big hard b*****d, but he over time he soon got to respecting them in a working enviroment. keep an eye on them at all times like already said, in time with you on top of them, they will come around.
  7. Nice one as usual PJ, just out of interest how olds the jill thats showing occasional form? I know mine seem to hit a wall at 5yrs old, (Bit like i am now! ). Liking the look of the little dog, sensible marking type with a few catches starting to show up as well, sort of dog that will have a job all its life.
  8. Love it when they show on the first outing, good result on the bag and the kits.
  9. Sounds like you have been handed a decent workforce, good result for half an hour!
  10. Bleeding weather! I was about that age when I was first taken out rabbiting, I was even made to shoot a tin can off a rock with a shotgun, whilst the older son of my dads mate missed! 35 years ago now, but still remember the first outing! Looks like you have introduced him into a lifestyle now, no going back!
  11. Nice to read feller. It makes it all human, and bags are only as good as the land allows!
  12. Good feeling when it all goes right Vin, rarely do I get home and feel like all that could be done has been done. Today is one of those days for me also.
  13. Get them in a smaller space, forcing the issue is the only way to get them to tolerate each other. Carrying 2 boxes in the field is not an option.
  14. Hi chaps, had another day out again today. After last Sunday I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go out TBH, it had been getting more like work than sport, taking up the slack in the team, and have quite a lot on at present, working on the new house, seeing off the final stages of a work contract finding myself having to burn the candles at both ends daily. A phone call last night off the old feller saw me make a spur of the moment decision, thats get back out there even if you dont feel like it. ( More for the team than myself.) So I told him see you at 7 as usual. Glad I did. More or l
  15. Bleeding eck, just read through all this again. Rabbit numbers are low. I know that. And then you start to read the excuses for it. Mixi, Buzzards, VHD and the like. When are people going to face facts and realise the biggest threat to rabbit populations is human intervention? I see knobhead reports on here about lads getting half a dozen in April, full of young uns, and starting out on the first of September and getting a couple of full size rabbits and then a few pom poms. Rabbits dont breed like rabbits as people think it takes a few years for them to get out of hand, trouble is most d
  16. Same as with the ferals Mick, they tried but were beaten back and let off the stank. Had the odd hob trying to go toe to toe, and shifted it off its bed. My hob stayed, dug down and found it on a bed of bones, skin and bodies. The feral did not bolt, and i got the hob out, not worth the hassle! Funnily enough, we still bolted 3 bunnies out of the warren, even with a feral in there, the rabbits wont bolt until its feeding time!
  17. Here's what will really go on, i base this only on my experience with my own ferrets having run ins with feral ferrets on just shy of a handfull of times. I know that a mink has a bit more in the locker. A good ferret would be put to ground on an already wound up mink, a skirmish would go on below the ground resulting in the mink trying its damdest to bolt if possible, lets face it, why would it go against everything that nature has taught it to survive? If blocked in, then the ferret curious about what was before it again would investigate again, and get beaten back, the mink would not be t
  18. How many ferrets do you have digger? Maybee try tipping the lot in, i'm sure numbers would get things moving a bit!
  19. Nice one DM, keep tabs on some of what i post up this year, i have a litter of four albino kits this year, 3 jills and 1 hob, they will be getting out soon. One of the jills is a Stumpy, i think born with a half tail, and three toes on each back foot. It has got the name Madge due to our lass working with a disabled lady, (called Madge.) Sometimes you just know when an animal is going to make it long before it ever goes out, the very fact it's still living, and is fiercely competitive for food with its siblings to the point of self sacrifice says it all! Go on Stumpy, Will get some photo's o
  20. Even the best ferret would get a severe twatting at the very least, and contained i'm sure would end up dead. But i reckon an EU poley would stand a chance!
  21. Is that it with this topic? Someone at least say they are going to make a new mk 1!
  22. That bird is a big bitch FV, recon it could take a fox down! Thanks for the report and photo's
  23. Interesting ..................i guess im questioning what qualities an ebt could stamp in on generations of quality breeding and reproduce.........i still cant see it myself whether it be physical or mental qualities i fail to see how or what an ebt could add to a good representative of a bulldog in any kind of athletic pursuit. I'm outside the box here, and can only guess that Jawn wants something with a jawline and head like gator, and bombproof with it, not overly agile, but like an anchor with teeth. That sounds like a bleeding handfull! (I hunt rabbits by the way!)
