  1. I have to be honest here the collie x was my first Lurcher, back in 1958 I was 14 years old still at school, I wrote about this before, Now this is the crunch, I learned with that dog by listening to older and far more experienced men, as time went on, with other dogs, I was still wanting instant coffee, but nature does not work like that, you get your pup educate him to the country side let him be a pup, the first year of that dogs life is so important, you have schooled him/her to recall, carry back to you, jump go through obstacles, and pick-up a few rabbits, he is 12 months old, everybod
  2. the collie crosses I was talking about was run daylight, never lamped, Run on plough, seed fields, Tattie fields, and Moorland, and Ive run them on Hard frost, with no problems, Back in those days, deerhound/grey was a common breed then, x that breed into a good collie cross, and it did not stop there, once you crossed with the deerhound cross you get dogs upto 28/29" when you had a good bitch out of all those crosses especially, a bitch with a broken coat or rough coat which was common the next cross, a Grew dog, grey/whippet, and that litter you were on the money for all edible, a goo
  3. I must add that the collie x grey with coursing grey blood in the mix they were hard to beat, they were bred in the late 50s and 60s in those days dogs were kept to do there job, IE, the hill collie that worked the hills, Long legged, stood 24/25" could run, stamina, biddable, and would face up to anything take the coursing greyhound around 26/27" speed, stamina, (((( the gentry had been breeding that dog for over 150 years, competition, was immense, when you bred from those two types you had some thing decent, 2or3 out that type in a litter was good for Hares, Bambi, rabbits, the rest of

  14. I would like to Add, the Saluki x has a natural round rib cage, more room for the Lungs to expand, or Larger engine room, were the heart and Lungs can expand more, with Hard exercise, also as said they are lighter muscled, long elongated, less build up of lactic acid,, After saying that I have owned and run very handy non Saluki blooded dogs, that could take the brown Hare, single handed, But once you start with the saluki x and learn to understand there ways, put them into top condition, of fitness, you would not want to go back to the old british x of coursing dogs, The Saluki x has a fa
  15. she is looking good, nice type for South west,
  16. for puncture wounds or cuts, I Use Hydrogen Peroxide, solution 9% 30 vol use a syringe squirt right into the wound, it will foam up and all the crap will come out, do that two or three days, the wound is nice and clean will heal nicely, cheap less than a £1 per bottle, if you scratch yourself or cut yourself try it it does the same and heals quickly, also after you clean your teeth, with your normal toothpaste, dip your tooth brush into the solution brush your teeth again they foam up gets rid of bad bacteria, teeth lovely and white, it works 100%
  17. There is some dogs that handle plough as easy as running on grass, the Hare is easier done on plough, ((( for some dogs )) seed is next, the short grass land, the Hare can run the dog can run, and if your dog can stop them in the middle of grass ((( short that is ))) he will stop them any were, now dont take my word for it, I am too young, according to some coursing only started in the 80s

  21. I have lived in South Africa, my experience would be saluki x would handle the hard ground better, than the deer-hound/greyhound x my experience with the deer/grey x they are ok for running in cold wet ground as we have here in the uk, + the real hard working scottish deerhound has gone only show pony left, it was a common breed back in the 60s thats 50 years back, you are better to take a punt at the american Staghound, they use them for cayotes, there is a couple of Lads who post on here now and again, best of luck, (((( for you I lived in Natal, and up in the Transvaal,

  24. the truth is IF BREEDING was so SIMPLE, (((( by putting the best to the best, WE would all be walking around with the best dog ever, BUT nature just does not give her gems up easily, just look at the greyhound, breeding situation, they are supposed to breed from the best dogs, since track racing began, truth is some pups maybe 30% will make the grade of open racers, and some will not even qualify on the local flapping track, and sometimes they wont even chase the bunny, getting back to the coursing situation, patience is a virtue, The pup must have the minerals, then its up to the handler, to
