with any luck yes, but it's bloody warm at the moment very mild, True, but I seen one a few weeks ago. And traps work in the warmer months too.

"but not one of you can say honestly they were NOT worrying sheep, cos you were not there" I was & they weren't, they were just running through the land on scent, we went over on the quads to "get them back" to the huntsman has he was on foot. Having said that your 1st point is taken as valid hence why it is now in solicitors hands Good stuff Raynardman. I hope yous get justice. To hit a farmer, hit him where it hurts most, his pocket and if he has to compensate yous then it should send a message out to trigger happy folks. At the very least hopefully he'll loose his FAC as

Nice pups Raymond. Foxes don't know or care how long a tail is.
-
Then it sounds like it's not the foxes that need trapping over there, a shame.

The last time I used dog or catfood as bait I kept catching hedgehogs. I just released them but it was a pain in the ass that they kept springing the trap. One morning when I was letting the Hedgehog out I marked it with some white sticky lime. It was in it the next morning. It was the same bloody Hedgehog all along.

For Those Who Dont Believe In Big Brother
neil cooney replied to paulus's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
FFS Stopend you plank, still looking for an arguement. I see sarcasm is lost on you. Talking of scumbags bringing the sport that some of us do actually love into disrepute, it seems like only yesterday that you were putting up photos of lurchers drawing and terriers with wounds. -
What Went On Here Then I Wonder?

Otters and Seals, two of the most destructive predators we have that DO kill for sport. I've seen both do it. -
For Those Who Dont Believe In Big Brother
neil cooney replied to paulus's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I don't believe any of that Paulus, not for one minute. Firstly I don't believe that there's anyone on this planet who is so brain dead that they'd put up photos of a dogs injuries. Secondly, in a recent similar discussion on here there's lads who told us that FB is secure and that no one can see what your up to. Just doesn't happen, no one's that stupid, . -
A couple of years ago there was a foxhunting debate on telly and the anti's had some farmers with them who were opposed to hunts being on their land. Things were going smoothly for the anti's until someone asked the farmers would they shoot hounds ? The farmers said YES. The pro hunters pointed out that hounds were animals too and why would animal lovers shoot hounds ? Then someone pointed out to the farmers that the anti's were all anti meat production too and it all went downhill after that.

IMO the biggest benefactor of the cull in the UK is the badger itself. If they're in the numbers you say then of course a cull is needed. The agricultural TV show , Ear to the Ground, here in Ireland last week done a feature on Badgers and TB. Research has shown that TB might be able to be controlled through the breeding of cattle. Some bulls have been proven to produce offspring that are prone to TB whilst other bulls produce offspring with a high resistance. I was talking to a farmer a couple of days ago and he told me that his vet told him the same a few months ago so hopefully somet

My physic senses tell me it's a hunt.

They roost in daylight , mostly in woodland. It is uncommon to see woodcock in the daytime in fields. I think I've only seen it a couople of times. Once in the snow I took a few snaps of a feeding woodcock. Beautiful bird they are when you 'really' look at them. Once photographed a woodcock on the nest......amazing camoflage.... JD if I had read your post last week I'd have disagreed. I've seen 100s of Woodcock while rough shooting and shot dozens ,but, last Sunday morning (I put up a post on the shooting forum) one left a tree about 20 foot above my head. Never having seen this before

I put up with it too Foxdropper, not that I have that many. Daniel say's he wont tolerate it and fair play and he finds a good home for them. Personally I'll tolerate a fighter if they'll do the job in the field but they have to be good. Inbreeding can often result in a highly strung terrier and an outcross should calm things down a bit. But, because I like all my dogs to have a happy life when not working the argumentative ones tend to have a more boring life because they can only be exercised on their own, I let my daughter do that, LOL.
-
Fair play Foxdropper and fair play to who ever laid them out for the photo. 30 rats in a sack is heavy, let alone 100's . We ,who consider the true test for a terrier is in the dark, under ground often forget how much 20 rats can inflict on a terrier, let alone the 100 or so that you expect. Have to say, when I'm digging I take it so serious but ratting, even though it is pest control too, is fun fun fun .
-
Has Santa a massive sack because he only comes once a year ?
-
I believe ya Daniel.

Funny but that's one I always found to be true. I've noticed a few times when mice move out a rat has appeared. Let's face it we've all seen half eaten mice and rats in traps. BUT, maybe if the food source is plentiful then a rat doesn't need to chase his dinner. I think the rat is capable of anything. I remember hanging a fox in the shed years ago and didn't get around to skinning him 'till the next day. As I opened the shed I thought he was still alive as he was wriggling, LOL. I also remember being told why some turkeys at Christmas would have a little round hole in the breast, LOL, hap

You're right about one thing, not all terriers are sold for mega money. Some of the best ever have been given to good lads for free by good lads.
-
Good point Daniel and what you're talking about that went on to be liability's are terriers that were not up to the grade as workers. So what sort of a liability would a proper ,proper worker be if he wasn't allowed to do what he was bred for ?
-
-
That's a lot of rats. The most we done was 169 but we did quit early that night because one dog got a bad cut on a bit of rubbish that didn't look like it was going to stop, thankfully it did. We got over 100 several times. We had 5 terriers the night we did 169. How many terriers were used to take a thousand ?
-
I disagree. To a well bred terrier nothing is a substitute for work. Keeping breeds like the good working terrier as a pet or a status symbol is a recipe for disaster . Can you think of another breed that was brilliant at it's job for a century when in the hands of those who loved the breed but when it fell into the hand of pet owners and money men got a bad rep in less than 20 years ????

All I see is a shit stained Muslim carrying a fox cub.
-
Guilty as charged on that one . Around here half the lamping is done because lads are bored or want to stay out of the pub not about vermin control. So I've often called in litters of cubs and fired a shot over their heads. If we hadn't the cowboys there'd be plenty for everyone. The farmer in question who shot the hounds ? The more I think about it the more he sounds like an unstable character. I would definitely make the local police aware of your concerns and if he was ever to f**k up again there's a good chance he loose his FAC. Another thing, he's obviously a lover of foxes and
