Sparrow Hawk Prey Items.
neil cooney replied to Lutra Lutra's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
I've never seen a Sparrow Hawk flown off the fist but have seen many, many kills made by them in the wild. Sometimes two and three times a week. I've seen a Spar taking a House Martin on the wing, from below, with the Spar actually up side down when contact was made. But my favourite experience watching a Sparrowhawk was one morning shooting Rabbits with a .22. At the bottom of a small enough field was a fallen Whitethorn and I seen some movement in it. I lay down flat and looked through the scope. In the branches, around three foot of the ground, was a Sparrowhawk looking down. On the gr -

I'm a fan of Lyn's work and that short article was thought provoking and I'm glad he wrote it.

I agree with you there neil! What you said brings something to mind though! Didn't the anti's recently convince Easons to put all hunting magazines on the top shelf, so's under 18's can't purchase them! Saying the content has graphic images within! You're right Eddie.............and wrong . Easons did tell the anti's they'd put fieldsports magazines on the top shelf...........................but didn't .

That was a Mr J.C. Jeremy Hobson. Anti terrier work but has written books on working terriers. Such is life, if you ignored the hypocrites in this game you live the life of a hermit, LOL. I don't buy it but my father does and gives it to me. I refuse to read Mr Hobsons articles, no matter how good a heading.

Wasn't meant to be funny.

I say fair play to the CMW. It puts our sport on to the shelves of newsagents everywhere and I'll bet there's many's a child buys and reads it and that can only be good. IMO anyone who's looking for graphic photos or stories of every last detail are not doing enough hunting. The CMW is what it is.

Why did Mr Thompson switch to black terriers ? He had run out of good out crosses from what i can remember but i havent spoke to jimmy for a couple of months as he is having chemo again and he looked drained and out of breath.there is a few on here say they have his bloodline but i know they havent. Thanks Lurchers. A friend has a very useful bitch of his breeding that was brought to a dog of mine but sadly he didn't do the business. She's a nice rough black bitch.

neil ,i think your mind is made up on the ebt ,it wont be changed. I respect your opnion. All im sayin is there was plenty of terriers down here and still are with that breed in them and they were and are good dogs. when you say that family of terrier i dont know what you mean ? Theres not just one strain of white terrier in cork . Are all those cork white dogs sounders? no. And do they all make the grade? no they dont ,but do all paterdales make the grade? Im not one for reading up on the science of breeding dogs neil but you asked me what can the bull add to a terrier? In my opinion,f -

Fox Viciously Attacks Pensioner In Kildare Ireland
neil cooney replied to liamdelaney's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I'll bet the only reason that made the news is because her husband is a Councillor. Ireland tends not to have the hype in the media that Britain does and there's been a few incidents of fox attacks in Ireland that didn't make the news. A friend was called to shoot a fox in Dunshaughlin ,Co Meath last year that attacked a woman who tried to run it out of the garden as their dog had got mange and the fox had mange. My mate pulled up, got a bollocking of the neighbour to leave the fox alone, but my mate seen a fox lying under the trampoline and shot it. He got the hell out of there before the -

Favorite Lure Of All Time
neil cooney replied to buster gonads's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
My favourite has to be the Big S plug purely because I caught my biggest pike on one, 15 lbs, small fry to some of you lads but I don't consider myself a piker. I was fishing with a friend and we were walking around Derry Lake in county Monaghan skipping each other as we fished every swim. My mate got a bit cheeky and started casting across me so as he walked by I went to the last swim he'd been in to leave two swims between us, to stop him poaching so to speak. I cast my Big S about 50 yards and as it bobbed back to the surface there was a swirl. I couldn't believe it, a pike from the surf -

Not insulting anyone or their dogs. How long has it been since there was new EBT blood put into that family of terrier Sounder ? And there's nothing wrong with a terrier just being a sounder, nothing whatsoever. Are all those Cork white dogs sounders ? And do they all make the grade ? -

Maybe not breeds, but it must have added something to strains for guys to have persisted with those lines and strains that had that blood? Rather than going back to "pure" terrier? You'll have to ask some hard questions the next time you're down on the river. Myself and A were talking with a guy who offered his pay cheque for a 1/4 EBT cross bitch, way back when. Asked if she was the best bitch he'd seen? No, he said she had some knacks about her , but he knew she'd produce. He never bought her, but she produced a lot of bitches (and dogs) that again produced. I've never heard any o -

Has EBT been put into any line of working terrier, strongdog or running dog in the last 20 years and left it's mark ? Genuine question, but I doubt it but I could be wrong ! BUT, if you go back to the 60s and 70s and even the early 80s there was EBT blood used with some success. BUT, back then there was also Irish, Kerry Blue and Glen of Imall blood used with some success. Back then it was an Irish thing to have rough and ready curs that were Jack of all trades, but masters of none and Staffs, Wheatens, Kerries and EBT's all fell into that description. All anybody needed was a rough cur. -

Sorry Cushty, couldn't resist.

Sounds like a green terrier, green owner and maybe, just maybe green quarry. With pups it's a ladder of confidence, one step at a time. If the pup was lifted in front of it's prize then that's a result and hopefully next time will be better and so on.

Three pages and not one of you noticed it's not even a terrier, it's a Papillon. Perverts.
